The X700 in this thread always had DV whether it’s a FW upgrade, what does it matter? The only other Sony players with DV are X800M2 and 1100 ES and they probably have to get a FW update out of the box for DV also? All Sony DV players also have to have DV manually switch on in the settings. But to answer your question there is no new updated X700.
Maybe a X700M2 will come out next year but I doubt it?

No it does not matter. All I was asking is if there is a new X700 model or if it is the same model I purchased a couple years ago - thank you.

The X700 is still the same, unchanged. The only newcomers in UBP family are the X800M2 and X1100ES (Essentially the X1000ESM2 or ES-version of the X800M2). Both have Dolby Vision, manually switchable, like X700.

Dolby Vision setting left on

For current owners if you leave that setting on all the time does it affect viewing regular BD's or just regular 4K HDR discs? I just purchased the unit and will have a 4k tv in a week or two but wondering if I need to get a model that detects dolby vision automatically?

My non-DV 4K HDR projector sees the DV signal and then goes into HDR mode even with SDR content, and typically this results in a too dim image. I wouldn't recommend leaving DV on.

The tv I will be buying will have dolby vision but I keep wondering if dvd, blu ray, 4k hdr will not look right with that left on. My understanding is Sony had to do it this way due to their own TV's some type of special DV tech. I am going to buy a LG tv.

I suspect that your LG TV will try and use DV HDR even with SDR/HD/DVD content and things won't look quite right until you turn X700 DV off.

I just bought a 2019 LG C9 and couldn't figure out why everything from the Spears and Munsil 4K disc was flagged by the LG as Dolby Vision.

I had HDR set to auto and DV set to ON...... thanks for your post!

I just received it this afternoon and only played with the demonstration material, but I did have a quick look and from what I saw it only had HDR patterns.

I'm going to play with it this weekend and will update this thread if I was wrong.

It affects regular BDs and I think it actually looks pretty great

Standard procedure is, if you are watching a disc that has DV, turn it on. Otherwise, turn it off. It’s a minor annoyance.

I mean, you can leave it on at all times if you want. But the picture won’t be accurate while watching 1080p or HDR.

I want to take as much advantage of 4k and it's video codecs/features (my audio in that room is only so-so, with decent center channel and in-wall fronts and ceiling surrounds that we inherited from previous owner). I've picked up an inexpensive but decent Denon AVR that passes 4k (Denon S540BT) so I think I'm ok there.

Will getting the X700 take care of my disc needs and make sure I get Dolby Vision? And with the apps in either the LG OLED or the X700 do I even need the Firestick 4K for anything (I guess Prime Video, which is something we haven't watched in quite awhile anyway)?
Thx
Ted

P.S. All this goes out the windows for my new home theater/music room (my avatar was from my OHIO room, now moved to Denver) being designed currently for my walk out basement area. There I'll need pj, Atmos, etc. That's for another thread at another time.
You will not need the fire stick, you can play prime on the X700 and the Sony OLED. I have the Sony 930e which is the android platform and it is awesome. The apps update which is great considering that Netflix just announced they are discontinuing support for old TV's. Since Sony uses android and the apps get updated it will not be as bad of a problem. I use the netflix and Vudu app on my TV all the time. It is so much quicker ( to turn on) than using the apps on the X700.

Waiting for my x700 to be delivered. Can anyone give me their settings for this player? I am hooking it up to a Sony VW295 ES which is probably on the same UPS truck as the player.. I will have it hooked up to a Denon 3600 receiver with 4 in ceiling speakers and a 7.2 surround sound setup. My subs are SVS PB 2000s and an Emotiva 2 channel amp..

thanks in advance

Sounds like you're in for some good time. Do the FW update on the X700.

Hi,

The X700 does High Res Audio in a number of ways. I believe if you play songs from the USB input there is a gap between tracks.

Does anyone use the USB input to play High Res Audio and if so can you tell me how you set that up? What are your experiences with it?

I use my X700 to play my one and only SACD (Dark Side of the Moon) and that's easy as putting the disc in and the multi channel version plays. I also use it to play back Blu Rays with High Res Audio but each of those have a different menu to navigate. One album I have in particular isn't on optical and is only available either from it's native Video file or a converted to audio file and I would have to use the USB input for it. I could get around the gapless by leaving the album as a single song.

-Brian

The X700 Amazon app does NOT support ATMOS sound which may or may not be an issue depending upon your setup.

Does anyone know how to change the featured apps on the player main screen ?

I saw a screenshot with different featured apps but I never found a way to change them

Edit - looking at the available apps I decided this question didn’t matter. 🤪

Lightbulb

My X700 was not working correctly.

(Video dropped out repeatedly on my projector like it was re-initiating handshake of HDMI signal.)

On my Denon s730h AVR I moved the X700 to the input closest the HDMI output and that solved it.

The Denon x30 series is super flakey. I went through 4?! different models from 2 vendors that all failed for various reasons. 2 had HDMI issues that they couldn't pass 4:2:2 reliably with certified cables.. I would try a different receiver.

My only caution to your current settings is that discs are YCbCr and not RGB so setting is that is a conversion from YCbCr. Also RGB is 4:4:4 which is full bandwidth so I am not sure if that really contributed to fixing your issue.

Hey,

Thanks... I removed what was the third troubleshooting thing I did (setting the player to RGB)... And the X700 output remained stable.

I could go back and hook up the internet also (as that was another thing I did) but I can't think of any reason to. I'm ok with the player being off line. The Apps it comes with don't interest me.

I agree a NEW AVR may be a good idea, Thankfully everything is stable now. Thought I had a flakey X700 but instead it was a flakey AVR.

Unhappy Sound bug with sound bar

Hello guys,

I have some issues with that almost wonderful product and I think you might be the ones able to help me. Here is my setup; my Sony UBP-x700 is connected to my tv which is plugged to my soundbar (JBLBAR51BLKEP) via HDMI ARC. My sound bar is perfectly working with my PS4, the TV channels or Netflix for example (It's important because for me the problem I'll explain should then not come from the sound bar). But from time to time when I'm watching a Blu-Ray (UHD or not) I'm facing a lot of troubles with the sound of the movie which is jerky. Sometimes when I relaunch the Blu-Ray it's solved, sometimes I just have to switch the audio channel, sometimes it just last for 10 seconds, but sometimes nothing is working and it never stops. But if I stop using the soundbar, the sound is perfectly fine (coming out of the TV speakers). Do you guys have any idea where the problem comes from and how to solve it ?

Thank you for reading me and i would really appreciate your help.

Does your soundbar have any HDMI inputs that you could use? The x700 has two HDMI outputs one for audio only. If you can connect one HDMI out to your TV and the audio only HDMI output to your soundbar and don't use ARC when using your x700. You will have to change some settings on the x700 to enable the audio out on the second HDMI output.

Yes, my soundbar has HDMI inputs. I will test it asap and let you know if it works. Do you have any idea of the settings to change on the x700 to make it work perfectly ?

I already thank you
