Yep. I can't find it in stock at any BestBuy near me and it takes about 5-6 to get one if you order online.

Neither here in Houston which is a mayor city. I had to order mine online and have it shipped to my house with next day delivery for $7.96 shipping.

And I'm in the Atlanta area. I bet there's a bestbuy out in some small town with 5 of them in stock LOL. But yeah, I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Just pay that extra shipping to have it delivered next day.

So in summary, what is the X700 doing better vs the X800 right now?
Amazon in HDR?

Right now? Nothing, but it will eventually get an DV update, whereas the X800 won't.

Only the X800 plays DVD-A.

The best way to listen to music is in 5.1 imho.

What about VUDU 4k with Atmos? Does the X800 have that?

I just bought the X800 but I'm getting a new TV with Dolby Vision Capability and I also want Amazon HDR, so back it goes and I guess I will be getting the X700. I had the LG 970 and it did NOT have a good picture and LG was not saying anything about when DV might be implemented so it also was returned.

Is it worth waiting for the Panasonic DP-UB820 to arrive and check its reviews and PQ comparisons to the sony x700 before deciding on the x700? the Panasonic is also supposed to be DV compatible by a fw upgrade. I'm thinking the new Panasonic will be a more high end blu ray player than the x700.

Bought One In Nashville Area

I picked one up at the Best Buy Magnolia in Brentwood, TN today, just south of Nashville. They only had 1 in stock and weren't familiar with it at all. I got home and hooked it up to the Samsung 65KS9800 and never could get it to detect it but for a few seconds. It's odd because I had an X800 hooked up to it with no problems at all. I tried a smaller 1080p Samsung set in the house and it worked fine. No big deal anyway because the Sammy is being returned on Thursday and I'm receiving a 930e the same day. I really wanted to check it out but will have to wait.

Turns out that I had a bad brand new HDMI cable and it now works fine. This unit feels extremely light weight compared to the X800 and the remote is really cheap feeling but works the same after getting used to it. I actually think that the video is maybe a little better than the X800 but I've read that it should be the same. I'm happy with it and looking forward to trying out dolby vision on the 930e when I receive it.

^the fw update for DV on the x700 was promised by Sony in the summers, so you'll be waiting to test out DV on the Sony x930e. But I think when they finally update the fw on the x700, there wouldn't be any DV profile compatibility issues when paired with a Sony TV.

My streaming solution must have HDR.
Between my 900E and X800, I have no way to access the HDR titles in my cloud libs.
It would be truly sad if the X800 can't at least do what the X700 can.
There has to be a FW update on the way.....c'mon SONY!

If you'll be playing standard disks you might consider testing:

Setup > Screen Settings > 4K Upscale Setting > Auto2

Has anyone had disc freezing issues like the x800?

I love the x800 player I've had for less than a year now, however like several other users reported, occasionally a disc will freeze (Blu-Ray and 4K UHD) or the display on the screen will go black. I watch both streaming and disc media, so I'm considering an upgrade to the x700 if the freeze issues have been addressed. Any thoughts?

This is my first UHD, HDR10 and (soon) Dolby Vision Blu-Ray player! Started 20 years ago with the Sony DVP-S7000 and just upgraded to this UBP-X700 from the Sony BDP-S6500. The UBP-X700 is NOT a high-end unit, but it more than fills the needs of my wife and I. What I wanted was UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and decent apps along with a small form factor. My main focus is streaming so...

Size: For the first time in over 25+ years I don't have a dedicated room for home theater. The UBP-X700 fits nicely in a small decorative cabinet where a full size unit would not fit. No heat or noise issues in the cabinet.

Speed: This unit is fast and silent in my opinion.

Apps: For some reason this player streams at 25% to 100% faster than my brand new X930E depending on service and what's being streamned. Both units are hard wired to the same switch and I've switched ports and the results followed! The apps work about as well as can be expected at this point in time. If all the major apps are UHD and HDR10 across all platforms I'll be happy. Dolby Vision outside the ATV4K is a bonus for my needs :-)

Remote: Like all Sony remotes the UBP-X700 remote sucks (just saying). However, I've used URC for 15 years so I'm spoiled!

Cost: I realize the cost of this unit will drop like a rock later in the year. However, since this is my first UHD player and I had a use it or lose it credit at BestBuy I was not concerned about paying retail. Considering what I've paid for units in the past I'm happy.

Overall I'm very happy with the UBP-X700. This units fits my basic UHD needs and it's compact in size.

Leon McKee
As an actual owner of the UBP-X700, can you answer a question for me? This player uses what looks like a rather large external power supply module, but I can't find its dimensions listed anywhere. Since our space for gear is limited, any chance you can measure that power supply module? If it's too large, we may have a problem if we buy this player.... thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hard to get to it, but it looks like:

2 inches wide

3 inches tall

1 inch thick

Cable comes out the bottom

I have mine in a bottom socket and it does not block the top socket.
