I have this information from a person who is working in a Hifi store and had a meeting with a Cambridge sales rep lately.

Let's hope it's not true or there was some misunderstanding.

My guess is they were trying to say they'll stop production on the 203 - in favor of a 203d or some such thing.

I imagine if there is a 203d disc player it will no longer require the old master browser that the 203 requires and you'll be able to connect to a computer by typing in the name or IP address. The 203 no longer supports the newer versions of Windows 10 for browsing computer names and requires either an older version of Windows 10 or a secondary unit on the network - either an older PC acting as a master browser, a virtual machine within your main pc acting as the master browser or a router such as netgear offers that can be the master browser.

Thanks. I've tried plex. For some reason on the OPPO I notice a lipsync issue I don't have when using SMB. I've also noticed plex can use up resources and take a long time to index or whatever it is doing. It may be that there are options I'm not setting right or it may be because I have about 16,000 movies and TV shows.

Why not invest in an NAS? There are plenty of makes and models to choose from

When UHD Blu Ray was introduced, I went from the Oppo 80 to the Oppo 203. I was considering the 205 for my system. I wanted the headphone amp, the improved DAC, and other features. However, sipport for MQA made it a no-go.

Support for MQA is a no-go for me. I cannot, in good conscience, support a company that supports MQA.

MQA, like cancer, needs to be eliminated. I won't buy an Oppo that supports MQA.

Like the 205 leave the streaming apps to external boxes.

The way providers keep updating and changing their offerings it would be a no-win perpetual support nightmare for Oppo to dive back into having apps on their player.

Plug your streamer into the Oppo and call it done.

That’s utterly ridiculous.

MQA is a format and checklist item for many and including it helps Oppo’s sales.

It would be like saying you don’t like Atmos and so you will not buy any player that supports Atmos.

Atmos, and DTS X, offers a genuine audio improvement to the movie watching experience. MQA does not offer any improvement to a properly mastered FLAC file. In fact, it may offer just the opposite.

It would now be impossible to sell a receiver or separate without Dolby or DTS, which is what MQA would like to see happen with MQA.

Letting the camel get its nose in the tent is a major mistake.

You can’t stop it now; many shoppers now won’t even consider a DAC that doesn’t do MQA.

That's fine. That's free enterprise. But I suspect that there are people that will not consider a DAC with MQA.

I did not buy the 205. I instead bought the Benchmark DAC3.

I'm only one person, and I'm probably tilting at windmills, But I know that I did not contribute to the furtherance of MQA.

Bring back the second (and maybe a third) HDMI input, with individual settings. I have several devices that I'd love to put through the 30X.

Agreed... Very useful for people who have their A/V devices located some distance away from their large displays or projectors.

I'd also quite like to see some advanced (UPnP and SMB) NAS file sharing features for USB connected HDD's. I recently discovered that my old 2014 Panasonic TV offers a basic UPnP file sharing mode, even when it's in standby...

^ At this point that appears highly unlikely. OPPO Digital is no longer working on new player models.

^^ And yes, I agree this thread is now unnecessary, potentially confusing to new readers, and should probably be locked. I believe only one of the forum moderators can do that.
