Exactly why I got rid of my 205, have a 820 again and looking to get a 9000 as soon as they become avail over here. All I want is the best disc spinner for my projector. I do miss the 21:9 Cropped & Zoom capability of the Oppo however. I wish the 9000 and Pioneer LX-800 would add that. Ultimately it wont matter because in the end I want a lens, but this was a nice feature with my scope screen.

I am starting to like this Panasonic especially for HDR films 🎥 and it is also good for music 🎶 I wish the Panasonic had an app so i don't have to keep putting the tv on all the time. That's what I like about the oppo.

Done more testing with analog 2 channel music. I prefer the oppo for music 🎶 it sounds warmer, the Panasonic sounds very bright for me.

Users in the Panasonic ub820 thread (https://www.avsforum.com/forum/149-b...l#post57122886) confirmed that the volume level of the analog outputs is not controllable. The 820 assumes that it is running to a receiver/amplifier and the volume level from the 820's analog outputs is fixed.

For your 9000, please check to see if it has the same limitation on its analog outputs. I am presently an Oppo 103 user and the Oppo controls its analog output volume (my 7.1 analog outputs run to powered speakers; so I don't have a big volume knob anywhere). So if the 9000 can't control the analog volume, it is a deal-breaker for me...

Thanks,

Scott

There are third party apps that provide the same functionality with players that the Oppo app provides. Starting to feel like I should get commission but I use mconnect app for my Pioneer LX-500 and it works well. I also used it with my Oppo 205 before they finally worked out the issues with the Oppo App

Oppo 203. I connect the hard drive to the player so no app for the Panasonic I've tried.

That's the one connection I wouldn't have looked for and don't have a HD to check...hopefully Panasonic releases an app for it

disappointing to hear that you prefer the sound of the 203 over the Panasonic considering a lot of us were hoping the Panasonic would at worst be somewhere between the 203 and the 205 for 2 channel analog

UB9000 Sound Effects Settings

Greetings all!

I have been reading AVSForum for avery long time and finally just registered. This is my first post.

I do notown a UB9000, I am in the market for a Blu-ray player or transport, and I havebeen reading reviews and blogs.

The TechRadar review of the UB9000, [note, I was unable toinclude a proper URL] hands-on-panasonic-dp-ub9000-review, indicates theaudio performance is abrasive and the observation by nucky in post #395 is thatthe analog stereo performance is very bright and the OPPO is warmer. According to the UB9000 Operating instructions, see p29, [note, I was unable to include a proper URL, replace blanks with / inthe following] panasonicstore.ie wp-content uploads 2017 09 DPUB9000.pdf, thereare sound effects settings that can be selected which probably affect theobjectionable performance. I'minterested in knowing what sound effects settings were used when these reviewobservations were made and what the performance is when other settings areused. In other words, can the UB9000 beconfigured to eliminate the objections being observed? Any input based onobservations by those who already have the UB9000 would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is there any difference between UB9000 and UB820 in terms of video quality?
Or are they exactly the same?

UB820 and UB420 are the same for video quality, I've got the 420 at the moment testing it against the 9000 and picture is identical.

Hi Nucky: Thanks for the input. Am I correct in assuming your preferred settings do not address your taste for a less bright sound?

Is the 9000 available in Europe? Sorry to ask because i'll be there for a few weeks and planning to get one to use here in US.

If buying a player from Europe would I be having problems with voltage and is it region free?

From what I've read, you would at least have problems with region - it's not region free, if I recall correctly. Not sure about if it can take US voltage.

I see thank you. I guess what I could do is buy a UB820 from right now then if I get through the 3rd batch from VE as I emailed them a moment ago for a reservation I can return the 820.

Yes that is correct. The Panasonic 9000 is boxed up ready to go back. I will be keeping my oppo and the Panasonic UB420. In my opinion the 9000 is not the good for music. The only thing I liked about it was the picture on my JVC projector. But as the 420 has the same picture that will do nicely and It was only £150 for Black Friday. Bargain.

your call... I upgraded from a 420 to the UB9000 and I will never go back... i give the crappy little thingie to my brother that is very happy due to its excellent picture...

But I'm very, very, very happy by the UB9000 premium build... I will never buy a cheap like the 420 again... I love the feeling of a premium component...

That said the PQ is identical between the two players, so is more "buy a Ferrari thing"... than the real need of a Ferrari...

If you didn't like Panny 9000 for music why don't you just run hdmi cable from panny to the avr/prepro so you can use the avr/prepro's dacs instead? Since you prefer oppo for music I'm assuming you're using oppos dacs by using analog cable to avr/prepro?

Sometimes I prefer to listen to 2 channel analog without the sub.

I only need it for 4k HDR tone mapping with my projector, so won't get used much. My oppo will be used more.

Yes it is available in Europe. You would run into region problems as it's region B out of the box. There might be region free firmware available to make it region free but install at your own risk. As for voltage there is probably a way to make it work in the USA but I am no expert again at your own risk.

I would buy one anyway for the hell of it if I was in Europe.

Oppo 203 to UB9000

Looking for input on users who have gone from the Oppo 203 to the UB9000.

I am currently using an Oppo 203 with my JVC Z1/RS4500 but am looking closely at the UB9000.....its just become available here in AUS.

Aside form the Tone Mapping how does the image of the UB9000 compare to the 203....."Sharpness" and "Detail"

Thanks for any input.

Maybe you can try "Analog Out Filter

This allows you to change the digital filter setting

for the internal DAC (digital-analog converter)."

Any advice to share my library from a windows 10 computer?
Mostly flac files.
Support said to use twonky or servioo

Basic file sharing does not work with this player.

You will need a step down transformer and you will not able to watch the (few) region coded 1080p blu-rays... I import a lot of disks from the US and usually don't have problems... but there are still around Region A encoded BDs... for those you can purchase on amazon the region B version, all European discs got English Soundtrack...

A seller that I know got stock arriving Nov 29th and can export to US... if interested, just drop me a PM and I will give you the contact infos...

Pioneer UDP-LX500 - Oppo 203EU - Panasonic DP-UB9000 - SONY X-800 UHD BLU-RAY -Apple TV 4K - Marantz SR6013 in 5:1:2 Dolby ATMOS/DTS:X Config - KLIPSH REFERENCE (Towers + Central + 2 surrounds + 2 Atmos Enabled) - KLIPSH R-120SW SUBWOOFER- LG OLED 65C8 - LG OLED 55B7 - OPTOMA UHD60 4K/HDR Projector on 110' SCREEN- Toshiba HD-EP30 HDDVD PLAYER - NAIM ND5 XS 2 streamer - NAIM NAIT XS 2 stereo amplifier - Roon Core on the network

Don’t forget warranties apply only in the country or area purchased. If purchased in the US then Panasonic U.S.A. handles the warranty. If purchased elsewhere then warranty is only valid from that area. Most people never have problems but if you are one of the few that do......

Yes... a player purchased in EU is basically out of warranty in the USA... same the other way... but I purchased several players in the US and never got a lemon... nowadays High End Electronics is pretty hassle free...
