They both have analog outputs as well and when used the 9000 will have the better audio over the 820.

The answer to your question though depends on your AVR and if you want to use the DAC in the player or AVR.

I'd want to use the DAC in my Denon 6500H for CD audio playback. To do this would I use the "HDMI Audio Out" or the coaxial audio out? Would one sound better than the other for CD playback converted in my Denon receiver?

Also do you think the 9000 would have superior CD audio sound over the 820 if I am sending the signal to my receiver to be converted?

Thanks for your help. I'm definitely confused.

Some prefer Coax over HDMI for two channel music when sending a digital signal to the AVR to be converted but others say there shouldn’t be a difference since it’s a digital signal so this will come down to personal preference.

OK, so the 9000 and 820 both send an audio CD signal over HDMI, correct?

I know the 820 can't, but can this Panasonic do high res audio with network .MKV files?

I don't really like talking about my flair

The second allocation was supposed to be first half of January so I’m assuming that will most likely end up being late January now at best if not February unless they were shipped with the first allocation. The third allocation was scheduled for February.

I am planning to replace my Oppo 203 for the Panny 9000, however I want to make sure that Pioneer (LX 800) or Panny don’t release a new killer-model during CES. Any rumors about this?

*******
Edit: I just realized you’re not in the US so you at least will have the option of the LX800 and would probably have the option of a new Panasonic if they release one.
*******

As of now the LX800 isn’t being released in the US but if it ever is it won’t be cheap. I really like my LX500 and would be intrigued with the LX800 but don’t think I’d be willing to pay the expected price although a glowing two channel analog audio review could change that.

With as difficult it’s been in getting the Panasonic 9000 released in the US I wouldn’t count on another higher model coming over any time soon.

As always waiting for the next great device is usually more aggravating than rewarding but you always have the option of selling if you buy what’s available now as there is always a market for used devices in good condition.

Ok, if they are this new on the market it is highly unlikely.
I haven’t read anything from Sony, LG or Samsung.
The Pio and Panny are stock in Norway.
The Panny is half price from the Pio, so I guess it will be the Panny.
The 2ch. playback is done from other (better) gear.

I suspect the UB9000 will be the last Blu-ray player I ever buy. (Assuming it holds up to many years of use.)

I am seriously starting to consider purchasing only digital copies of films. The 4K image quality from my Apple TV 4K is superlative and digital files on Apple's servers take up ZERO shelf space. Plus, when Apple gets updated transfers of a film there typically isn't a double-dip required. Buyers of the original digital file get the better version automatically.

I only have a 65” Oled, no way I’d watch a digital copy over a Blu-ray. I do agree, until there is another tech shift, not upgrading players any more. I like my 4K Oleds and the HDR optimizer is all I need.

Re: the HDR optimizer, it will be interesting to see how much better of a job it does then the 2018 and up OLEDs with their already very good HDR10 tone mapping. However, given a choice is still prefer to watch Dolby Vision on my E8.

I'd be careful here. Manufacturers have done funny things, like early 4K panels that didn't do HDR, etc...

2019 is not a year Id go 2.1, not that I care about HDMI 2.1 at all. And my trust level with LG is lower than other brands. The 9000 was launched in mid-2018 or so, so Id expect the new model mid-2020, and HDMI 2.1. I do not think AVR's will widely support 2.1 in 2019 either, so it is not the year to be an early adopter.

Yes memories of my hdmi less 1080i crt or the 4k sets that only accepted 24/30p

He’s just been busy trolling every forum around. Multiple complaints have been made and when they’ve worn out their welcome they move on to another thread with constant drivel.

My inquire regarding HDMI 2.1 for future models of the 9000 pertains to 4K applications. I've read this "This year, LG's OLEDs and certain high-end LCD TVs will support HDMI 2.1, allowing them to display 4K content at 120Hz over HDMI".

So I received an email from Robert at VE stating that I'm on the list for purchase on the shipment of 9000's they will be receiving soon. I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with the 820 I bought from BB a couple weeks ago, so I'l let Robert know to pass my slot to someone else.

Your welcome, glad someone started one. I’m the OP for this thread. I don’t own one and won’t for a while for several reasons, I have other AV priorities and MSRP is really high! But I will follow for sure. I’m looking to get the UB820 first or something else if CES comes out with something that interests me in the meantime until I’m ready to spring for this player as I will need another machine going forward for each of my TVs! Good luck with it and keep us tuned in with your experiences with different discs!
