How's the disc loading time?
Blu ray upscaling?

Not many reviews out yet for this thing. I'll have mine tomorrow, but probably won't have time to play with it till next weekend.

Anyone tried a UBK80? I have a Sony X700, but it can't play every format. The ff & rewind are way too fast on the remote imo.

I picked up a UBK90 today. Returned the Sony x700 due to the fact that it kept freezing and wouldn't launch apps. Everytime I turned it on I had to unplug it to reset it. So far so good on UBK90. Odd that there are no apps yet. Only YouTube & Netflix. Need prime and VUDU but I'm guessing they're coming later.

Just wanted to provide a quick update. Did some testing with a few blu rays and the picture quality is amazing. It runs super quiet and discs load extremely fast. Youtube app allows 4k HDR. Same for Netflix. No Atmos tho. its connected to my projector so can't confirm DV but I'm sure it's there. Small sample size but I'm happy so far. As long as it stays quiet and doesn't start freezing I'm fine. I think the price is a little steep @ $300 but ah well. Early adopters pay the price.

Reason i'm asking is i have xbone one x and i am experiencing a lot of desync and flickering in 3d movies.
Not sure if that is due to projector (TK800) or due to player.

I just bought this one on amazon and I will check what's really the problem here.

Got the last one at my local BB today...

Setup was super easy as well as initial tweaking. The GUI is about as plain Jane as can be but it works and does what I need it to do. I watch Netflix, etc via my TV apps so no need for them on the player.

Popped in the Black Panther movie in 4k and it started quickly and easily. Watched bits and pieces and it looked great.
Watched "Terminator" in BD tonight and the video was great and the audio was better...really impressed by this player at least at this point.

This is a replacement for a Sony x800 that I recently received from Sony as a replacement for the 800 I purchased last year and kept freezing. First movie I watched in the replacement was Black Panther in 4k and half way through it froze hard...no response from the remote buttons. I had to unplug it and start it up to get it to work and then it did work fine but that was the last straw...out it goes. I'll try to get a refund from Sony but if not I'll sell it for a few bucks with the caveat that it is sketchy playing some 4k's.

Looking forward to seeing what Dolby Vision looks like but I have to check my disks to see what ones, if any, have DV.

More to follow...
Angel Pagan and fafrd like this.

TV: Sony XBR 65X950G, AVR: Marantz SR5011, Speakers: front/Paradigm Prestige 15B bookshelf, center/Paradigm Prestige 45C, surround/Paradigm Atom, sub/SVS SB3000, DVD: LG UBK 90 UHD DVD Player, Media Player: Zidoo Z9S, Remote: Logitech Harmony Ultimate Home

I thought Black Panther was in Dolby Vision. I don't have it yet, but I thought I remembered seeing an on-line review that said it was DV encoded.

You are correct...never paid any attention until now...I Googled movies with DV and was surprised by how many movies offer it...
My TV Samsung KS8000 does not support DV so it's not a concern.

Just got the UBK90 as well. It's my first 4K player and I've only tested one Blu Ray, Black Panther in DV. No issues with the player. Quiet and fast. It's ugly and cheap looking though, but my room is usually pretty dark, so who can tell? UI is also very blah, and it only offers a couple of apps, but there are other ways to get apps on your TV.

Will be buying more movies this week to test and will test some HD Blu-rays as well.

I watched the first episode on this disc last night and I didn't have any issues, per se. I did notice quite a bit more macroblocking on some of the backgrounds for certain scenes, but that may be my UHD60 - which is notorious for it.

@william06 , you have the Samsung K950, correct? If so, would you mind letting me know how you implement this player into your set-up (assuming you plan to use both HDMI outputs in order to bypass the K950 for DV)? I've tried everything to get the UP970 (should be similar to the UPK90), Vizio M and K850 to play nicely together and haven't been able to figure it out without disconnecting the K850 from the Vizio.

There are several ways I can connect. Right now I have my oppo 203 as well as the 970 in the past in either case main HDMI video out main into my lgg7p and secondary HDMI audio out into either HDMI 1 or 2 on the 850 or 950 set your tv to the proper input and the soundbar to the input you chose for audio. Make sure your bd player is set to bitstream and secondary audio off. This is the simplest way to get your system working. I have other ways for a more complex set up. I hope this help you out

Panasonic UB9000 pioneer lx500
atv4k -roku ultra
Toshiba Xa2 HD-DVD
Samsung HW-N950 soundbar

It does help as it confirms I have done everything possible and still no good on my set-up. I won't derail this thread as it's non-related to the newer LG players, but if you have a few moments and can take a look through the conversation between naustin and myself in the K950/K850 discussion...let me know if you have any ideas.

Has anyone tried to play MKV files off of a hard drive using the USB connection on the UBK90? That is how I will playing most of my content. I know Oppo 203 does but not sure if the LG does. Any one has any views on whether its worth paying the premium for Oppo from an audio/video quality perspective?

Just a silly question are you using premium certified cable on both outputs

I haven't tried playing any MKV files on the UBK90, but I had no issues playing them on the unit it replaced, the UP970

Thanks for the response. I pulled the trigger on the Oppo 203. Figured can’t go wrong with it.

I certainly would have purchased the 203 if they weren't so damn expensive

Yep. It hurt to cough up that much on a player but compared to the Cambridge player which is essentially the same thing it was about $150 cheaper at $549

Yup...everything in the system is using certified premium 18GB cabling. After speaking with someone incredibly helpful at Vizio yesterday, he says there's nothing that can be done from the standpoint of the display and player as both are functioning as designed. The issue is with the K850 in that it's receiving an ARC signal from the TV (Vizio says any input outside of port 1 will always send information down the ARC input no matter if it's disabled, etc.) and an audio signal from the LG player and cannot determine what input to play (despite being set to output the player's audio). The weak link in the chain is the soundbar and honestly if it's performance wasn't so good, it would have long been replaced. Vizio did confirm their new soundbars will process ATMOS over ARC, so I'll be interested to see how their performance stacks up against the Samsung.
