No issue here, But I'm using an OLED65B7A with 4.70.70 which seems to fix the elevated black levels of Dolby Vision over HDMI. Looks great here.

Did you guys update to the latest firmware? That's the first thing I did out of the box and have had no issues like that whatsoever.

I have not had any problems yet either. Like you, I updated the firmware right after I unboxed it, before playing any movies. The one small complaint I have so far involves not having a screen saver. I paused a movie I was watching and came back 20min later and was surprised there was not a screen saver running. It was still paused at the scene in the movie.

I had not, but it was next on the list. Did the update today and was not able to reproduce the issue on Last Jedi. By no means a comprehensive test, but I tried many times. I have no problem with the basic interface, and this is replacing a Philips BDP7501 so I appreciate the relatively snappy response. Color me happy.

Had my first freeze the other day watching Saving Private Ryan on UHD. Kept freezing in chapter 14 shortly after the scene when they find Private Ryan. Froze twice before I stopped it and ejected the disc. 3rd time it played through fine. Definitely disappointing. I'll test a few more discs to see how it goes over the next couple of days.

I recently purchased the UBK90 and have a question about whether 24 HZ or 60 HZ should be the setting on the player. Which one is best? I only use it for 4K movies and don’t stream from it. The TV I have paired with the system is an OLED65C8. Thank you.

24hz just because majority of movies out there are filmed/shot in 24hz.

I appreciate the response. I ask because I’ve seen multiple different responses regarding the topic. My thought process was that the TV would automatically choose the best display. I saw no issue when playing it at 60 HZ when watching Independence Day. Almost looked clearer to me at 60 HZ as opposed to 24 HZ.

Can anyone comment on how the LG UBK90 compares to the Sony UBP-X700? I'm just looking for the cheapest option for great image quality and DV support and am stuck between these two players. Don't need streaming apps as I use the TV and roku for that. Thanks for the help.

No playback issues with LG. I've played back about 6 or 7 disc since purchasing it. I believe there are plenty of reported freezing issues with the Sony's. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't count out the Philips 7502. It also has what you're looking for (great image quality, DV implementation) and hasn't given me a single problem with its operation. I've read more negative things about the X700 than I have about either the LG 90 or Philips players.

With the x700, having to go into the settings and manually select DV if you want to watch a movie in DV is HUGE dealbreaker, IMO.

Apparently it forces DV as well, so you gotta manually turn it off

I am not sure about it forcing DV too. But, if that is the case, that is just another reason to get the LG.

Yeah, Techno Dad says it will force DV if left on when you insert HDR10 disc. Even does it for Blu rays. Lol.

In any case with all the issues I had with the lg it is not that big of a deal to me. The 700 do far has been flawless and it is only a backup player for my oppo203 with an almost equeal pq.

I purchased the UBK90 about almost two weeks ago and really like it, excellent sound, beautiful picture, however, every time a place a disc in, either blu ray or 4K, I have to go to the options menu and set the picture from "Standard" to "Vivid" which is my preferred choice. Is there somewhere on the unit setup menu that I can make the "Vivid" picture the default?

Unfortunately no, the player is forever locked on Standard as the default.

Is this player supposed to have Dolby Vision support through the built in Netflix app? I just got it today after watching some reviews and one of them showed a screen from Netflix and the title had Dolby Vision, which is why I was excited to get this.

So is the UBK90 the only DV capable player that doesn’t upconvert everything to DV once DV is enabled?

Uh, no. The OPPO players only send DV content out as DV unless you ask them to also convert other content to DV.

The Philips 7502 also does not convert all HDR to DV unless you want it to. There is an "Auto" menu selection that presents exactly what the disc offers.

UBK90 freezes

Well shucks. After playing thru flawlessly once, had another hard freeze on the UBK90 with BR2049. Chapter 12, couldn't jog it loose, had to eject. Played thru that chapter later without issue, so I doubt a media problem.

Annihilation played thru without issue (apart from the bad stink coming from the film). Pretty please, LG, one more good firmware update.

One might think that coming here to get a recommendation for a new 4K BD player w/DV is a good idea. Not that it's a bad idea, just as long as one isn't expecting a solid recommendation!

Since coming from and Oppo 203 to a UBK90, I can say that there is not a difference in pq. I like this player. I have only had this player for about three weeks, without any of the freezing I am reading about. If I start to notice a lot, my opinion will change. As for now, it's a solid player.

I did not buy it for the apps, so I can't comment on that. I have my ATV 4K for that. It comes with the "must haves." DV out the box, great picture/sound. Yes, the home screen is VERY outdated looking, but that is not a deal breaker. The quality of the picture on the screen matters more.

I have the UBK90. So far I have had only one freeze which I cannot duplicate. I find if I am playing DVD discs motion is very jerky unless set to 6Ohz. The one thing I would like to see changed is the eject screen. I would like to see something darker instead of the retina burning white it now has.
