But really good audio is really my primary interest.

I sure enjoy feeling a good movie!!

This is what I use my BDP-105 for, and will use my 205 for when the 105 craters. I’m hoping that won’t be for a couple of decades. Until then, the 205 will sit in cold storage.

The 205 has slightly better analog audio than the 105. It also seems to load movies quicker than the 105. You should do what I did - use your 205 and put your 105 into cold storage for when the 205 craters. The only downside is I have to use Chromecast (hooked up to the HDMI input in the back of the 205) for streaming Netflix.

Is it really better, or worse? Did anyone compare?

I've had both 105 and 205 and the 205 did sound considerably better for 2 channel music playback. However, they both pale in comparison to a high end DAC from say PS Audio, etc.

Put me on the "never bought directly from Oppo but still got a 205" list. I bought my first 203 from Magnolia in March, 2018. As soon as I heard they were being discontinued, I made a beeline to Magnolia and bought another 203 for my bedroom (in stock) and ordered that 205 that I was putting off buying until the 12th of never; that was in mid-April and I picked up my 205 at the end of that same week. I signed up for a 205 on the Oppo site that same day; got my notification on 9/19 and received it on 9/26. Looks like I barely made it under the wire...

I bought my 203 in Feb from Amazon (shipped Oppo direct) and also received the 205 on the 26th, I think ours may be some of the last shipped since no one else reported receiving theirs after that date.

Well I was hoping one day to be able to purchase a (305) 8K player from OPPO. Looks like that won't happen which sucks. After my KRELL SACD kicked the bucket I bought a 205 new from OPPO to replace that. I wanted a universal player that would last..

About the so called scalpers. I have zero problem with any-one selling and making a profit. (The only thing I don't like is if someone misrepresents what they are selling. Claiming something new if it isn't. Or with low hours if that's not true. Etc) Every-ones player value's have gone way up. I just did a real fast count of sold listings on E-Bay of 205's from July 6th until today. Looks like 20 pre-owned sold. The top prices out of the norm including shipping were $3099, $2899 and $2799. Looks to me like the avg. price of a pre owned 205 is around $2200.....9 new "other" sold. 82 new sold. So if a few thousand were made by OPPO the great majority of owners are holding on to them...

(edit) Ya know who's really cleaning up $$$. E-bay & PayPal. They are getting 10% selling fee and the 3% PayPal fee...

I think it's plausible there were only 1000-2000 made with the last 2 batches. It looks like they were using new old stock parts. mine was July 2018 build but firmware is from November 2017

well I was looking at OPPO and then saw the "we are leaving" note... I went to Amazon and bought a 205 from the OPPO store 04.02.2018. Only way I could afford it was to get it on payment plan with Amazon Store card. SO very glad I did....

I just love the unit... I signed up for a 203, but that did not happen as we all know ...My 75" tv does DV just fine... and Music ... what else is there to say .

4k movies are great. OPPO so long and thanks for the Fish .

In the 205 thread, I asked for serial number info via PM for last batch 205's in an attempt to figure out how many Oppo 205's were made in the last batch. Several people posted in the thread and several more PM'ed me. I also tapped ebay for a wealth of info. It's amazing how much info can be gleaned from ebay photos. And even more amazing how careless people are leaving serial number and shipping label info in plain sight.

Here is what I found:

The short answer is "2000".

Oppo made (3) manufacturing runs for the last batch.

1) A small run of about 200-250 in the first week of May. This was probably a test run. It was reported that this small batch had upgraded components resulting in cooler operation. (See post #4810 in the 205 thread.)

2) A run of 750-800 in the third week of May. Probably the balance of a 1000 unit run.

3) A run of 1000 in the third week of July. The last of the last.

These are the three waves that Oppo spoke of. The small 1st run was distributed the end of June and the 2nd and 3rd runs were both distributed beginning very late August through September.

So consider yourself fortunate if you were one of the lucky 2000 that snagged a 205.

Would it be possible for someone to cut and paste that info here. I’m on an iPad and this site really doesn’t play nice with it, so getting to that info is like fighting a 100 monkeys.

The 7th thru 10th digits of the serial number will tell you the year and week number it was manufactured. (Google: iso week calander 2018) See examples below:

B210U8-1708-013911 FEB 2017 oldest 205 found on ebay
B210U8-1818-111765 MAY 2018 week 18 example (ebay)
B210U8-1820-118356 MAY 2018 week 20 example (ebay)
B210U8-1829-125018 JUL 2018 week 29 example - highest ser# found on ebay

I'm an Oppo owner and just read this awful news as well. If this has been already said, then just ignore this.

Oppo is owned by BBK Electronics. BBK Electronics owns Oppo, Vivo, and One Plus. I own an Oppo 105 and love it. I've been an iPhone user for years but didn't want to sink over $1000 into a phone. I found out Oppo makes cellphones. Oppo makes a cell phone that is all bezeless while the iPhone has a big notch in the screen. It's called the Oppo Find X. It's also $1000 but when you need the selfie camera or Face ID, a motorized camera pops up and detects you and lets you take pictures. However once durability tests were done, the Oppo Find X got horrible scores. Vivo also makes a bezeless phone with a pop up camera but also like the Oppo, nobody really caught on.

The bright spot is BBK's third company, owned by Oppo, call One Plus. So, Oppo makes a fancy phone and then 6 months later a more realistic phone is made by One Plus and is sold under the company called One Plus. One Plus is now a HUGE cell phone producer outside of America. Their current phone, the One Plus 6, is the fastest phone in the world, faster than the newest iPhone and Galaxy or Note. It's also at about half the cost. They are getting really popular and now they have headquarters in Seattle and are looking to partner with carriers to be the next big brand of cell phones in America. They've made 6 models for 6 years and people are still using their six year old phones. I bought a One Plus 6 and I really love it, no, loved it. Then the new Android software came out and then One Plus released their compatible Oxygen OS to go with it. Now my camera is worthless and the display looks terrible. The company tells me to be patient because they are addressing tons of "bugs". In the meantime I have an almost new phone with a terrible camera and screen.

BBK is pouring money into expanding their best product line and now their best product line isn't Oppo, it's One Plus. The Oppo phones have been a flop and the One Plus phones have been a huge success. One Plus is releasing their newest model, the 6T, on October 30 and the internet has been buzzing about this for months. My guess is that BBK saw that One Plus was the future and Oppo phones were killing them, so they decided to move forward with One Plus instead. One Plus is also making other electronics like wireless "air pods" called "bullets". They are wanting to be the next Apple. And their new model coming in a couple weeks has fingerprint unlock built right into the front glass display, along with Face ID of course. They seem to be the leader of innovations on cell phones right now. Their newest model also has the smallest "notch" on the screen because they figured out a way to put the phone speaker on the top edge of the phone and then only needed a tiny notch for a tiny front camera. So, for BBK Electronics, One Plus seems to be the future and that might very well be the reason that Oppo is on the way out. Maybe for all of BBK Electronics's companies, One Plus looked the brightest. Who knows, maybe some day we'll see a really good One Plus Blu Ray Player? They are already making a laptop, not yet available, but it's a MacBook Pro ripoff in my opinion but it runs Windows 10 of course. One Plus seems to be a stupid name for a business, but Oppo wasn't the best name either! So, even though Oppo is done, BBK is doing well and they could, at any time, make any Hi-Fi line in the future. But for now it seems that BBK thinks the future is smartphones and they tried smartphones with Oppo and Vivo and that didn't work out all that well especially compared to One Plus. I'm saying, I don't think it was their Hi-Fi equipment that killed Oppo, I think it was their smartphones.
