I'm also shocked and disappointed about this news. The BDP-83 was my first Blu-ray player. I currently still use a BDP-103 and was considering upgrading to a UDP-203 in the near future.

I bought the opportunity 29 days ago on 3/3. I am assuming I have a few hours to return it since Amazon show I can still return it. Any thoughts? Support going forward? Obsolete in a year or so? This was my really first high end player. Any thoughts in they next couple of hours would be appreciated.

Check your drive.. if it works well, it's a solid player. That's the component with the most issues in their 4k players.

Amazon has different return requirements than manufacturers.

If Amazon says you can return it, you can return it regardless of what the manufacturer has to say.

In case nobody else has figured it out: NOW is the time to buy a player from Oppo, or 3 or 4, and leave it in the box for a couple years. Resale values are about to go nuts.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with their present offering. Its a piece of electronic equipment.. someone or something else will replace it. I do hope they get the DV bug worked out with Sony TVs ..whatever that entails. if not .. ill sell my 205 to a collector and pick up the Panasonic UB9000 and hopefully figure out a way to take out all the Alexa crap.

I really enjoyed my 93 and 105. I went with the Sony x-800 this round and while I’m happy its sad to see Oppo wont be a choice in the future. The loss of apps is what killed it for me.

My only concern is software updates going forward. Problematic disc out there, and no update? No way to know for sure. Ill prob sell mine late year once the Panny UB9000 is out.

I was inevitable. Over on FB one industry guy I know was wondering if the recent China tariffs had any influence on the decision. My feeling is it's simply the declining market for physical media, period.

The audiophiles are gonna suffer more than the AV guys for the loss of Oppo IMO. RIP to the true UDP.

Still, the UDP-203 is a great tool. I surely do appreciate it.

I guess headphones and Sonos-like speakers did not work out.

Oppo could have easily charged double for their players, especially something like the 105, and 205. I am also surprised that they just didn't sell it off...

BBK the parent company makes cell phones for One-Plus and Oppo. They will continue and sell millions of phones. I guess the market was just too small for the type of products Oppo was trying to sell. Very sad indeed.

Yes I’ll be contacting them tomorrow with a view to returning the 203. Part of the reason I’ve been prepared to pay Oppo premium prices in the past is due to continued development and support over years. It is clear that has gone even though they will cover existing warranties. My Sony player will be back in my rack tomorrow evening.

Wow, shocking news I see the eBay price gouging has already started ...

What's a drag is that I held off on buying one because it doesn't support the media types the other media players do (Dune, eGreat, Zappiti et al.), but the media players aren't shipping units with Blu-ray drives anymore.
