I picked up a second one from Magnolia/Bestbuy today, as well. He claimed it was the last one on the east coast and had to get it from another store. Not sure I believe him, though. He did say they had about 7 in Chicago, or the midwest some where.

It's a real shame that they are stopping production

I was holding out to see if they were going to release HDR10 + format, as i don't have DV on my 2018 Samsung

I'll most likely go with the new panny for now, but i'm still temped

BDP-205 August available Date

The Oppo site now has August, 2018 as the available date for the BDP-205.

Is this a new date for the 2nd batch they are going to make, or is the original date now pushed to August from June? Does anyone know?

Must have pushed back the June date, maybe the demand is higher than expected and they need more time. Works better for me though.

None. Some can equal it in an individual aspect, for example in UHD quality, but may fail in DVD upscaling or managing network or attached drive storage, analog connections, HDMI inputs... et al...

So in my opinion, none, and definitely not if you compare capabilities vs. price. For example dedicated CD audiophile players.

Thanks -- that's what I was afraid of. This is a tremendous loss. Do we have any idea if Oppo is going to retool to make something else or are they just closing shop?

The parent company continues to make cell phones in China. They are shutting down the A/V product lines.

That may depend on what country you are in...

Maybe a translation issue?

The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price has passed.

Doesn't matter what country one is from as there is no need to translate that link. There are two versions of the DSOTM Immersion set as linked below from Discogs. Disc 3 of the DSOTM Immersion set on both releases is a DVD-V (Audio Only) disc not a DVD-A. Perhaps you mistook "DVD (Audio Only)" for "DVD-Audio". I just put Disc 3 DVD (Audio Only) from my DSOTM Immersion set into my Oppo 205. It is a DVD-V with lossy audio not hi-res and shows as a "DVD" on the 205 display not "DVD-Audio". If it was a DVD-A the audio would most likely be hi-res not lossy. So I'd suggest that you double check your DSOTM Immersion set and play Disc 3 DVD (Audio Only). You will then see that it's not a DVD-Audio but a DVD-V .

UDP-205 Production run

I just emailed with Oppo service today and received some interesting news. According to Oppo service (stateside) the production run of UDP-205's is complete and they are in the process of shipping them to warehouses stateside. The proverbial "slow boat from China"! They said that a small number will be available in June for sale and that the bulk of units will be available in August. I suppose this estimate stems from an intimate knowledge of shipping schedules and so forth. I expect that the bulk of shipping space may be allocated to other goods since I would expect a ship could hold one hell of a lot of UDP-205's, so we are talking about priorities here. The burning question in my mind is how they will allocate sales once those units begin trickling into stateside warehouses. By a small number of units I would take that to mean maybe a couple or three hundred or so (I was not given any numbers so that is pure speculation on my part).

It should be about four weeks door-to-door (factory/warehouse) from China to the west coast port. That accounts for the June availability. The August availability? Well that sounds like they went west from China around the Horn of Africa (or through the Straits of Hormuz) and then through the Panama Canal to get to CA.

So after another couple of email exchanges I learned that there will be invitations to purchase the UDP-205 units in the order of interest sign ups that were posted to the Oppo site. Those of us who signed up and then confirmed our email addresses via the link sent out on approximately 5/9 will receive invitations to purchase in a number of waves until all the units are gone. Sounds fair and ethical except probably to the fence sitters who watched and waited without signing up of course.
