Awesome! Can’t wait to hear your opinion on it . I finally settled for this ugly looking Panasonic 820 . Would much rather have had the Pioneer

Nice!

Looks exactly like my 85FD.

I like to look of my 09FD a little better... but they don't build them like they used to!

It’s the same frame and I’d say weight. However, sound through the HDMI output is not the same.

And I’m happy to report that all SACDs that can’t be played on the BDP-85, are fully functional on the UPD-LX500. It looks that we have back the great disc drives from past Pioneer Elite players. It has been able to play anything as of now.

Exactly , it doesn’t look like some two inch thick piece of plastic. Wish I could get my hands on one . I’ve got money invested in a Panasonic 820 now ,so I may have to consider it too late

I'm waiting for someone to answer that as well. Analog SQ should fall somewhere between the 203 and 205 with the 4490 dac. The 203 is really good, so that would be good news if that's the case.

The audio from HDMI sounds superior to the the BDP-85. The harshness is completely gone. I’m using single mode. Will continue reporting.

By the way, I won’t address the analog sound because my current equipment is a Yamaha A3070 receiver.

Hi thanks for your infos so far can you or someone else who owns the player test 4k media files with HD sound via NAS or USB? I read in German forum that the player can't handle that which would be really a bumper thanks

If you have an old DVD lying around, It'd be nice to know how good a job the pioneer does in upscaling DVD to 4k. The Oppo 20X players do a very good job. I was afraid I'd want to replace some of my favorite older movies with at least blu ray, but that's not really required.

Does this player operate fine with a non 4K projector? I am getting a new JVC but my old 4810 4K E-Shift is doing just fine for now with an OPPO BDP-105.

Yes. I guess the superior sound comes from the 6 layer board that is suppose to eliminate any digital noise or degradation.

Excellent! Great to hear the LX500 sounds good. How is the video quality? The LX500 seems to be the player to get for those looking for a top quality universal player.

Well Bill. The LX500 video looks way different to the Oppo 203 and the Samsung K8500. I’m using the reference video option. I’m not sure which one is right or wrong. I need to look at more movies. I can tell the color saturation is different.

Interesting! I'm much more into audio than video. But definitely find your thoughts interesting. I'd love to see an in depth comparison between the LX500, Panasonic 820/9000 and Oppo 203/205. I see some are really interested in the Panasonic 9000 but unless the video is superior the LX500 that seems to be the player to get IMO.

I can’t tell. To my eyes, now the Oppo looks kinda artificial but I might be wrong without a frame of reference. I would wait for a professional review. Eyes can be deceiving.
