Likely but you never know because it would dependent on the UDP-LX500 SoC utilized which would be different then the earlier BDP-LX88.

It does look a little like a Denon design, save for perhaps some more mildly curved front edges...

Is Denon planning a UHD player, does anyone know? I'd consider one, though their previous flagship Blu-ray (and DVD, to some extent) players carried a heart attack-inducing price tag...

What about the reports earlier in this thread that Pioneer/Onkyo ISN'T building a UHD player? Or are we awaiting to hear back on it?

I saw a post from marantz part of the D&M/soundlimited group proudly declaring their last blu-ray player saying they were not going to make them anymore. probably too much to invest to kick off a uhd platform player.

Hope they sell as well as my FD51 and 05 Elite players did. They are still working, but load slow. Seems the last pricey version from Pioneer was a flop and not many sold.

I still have a Pioneer Elite DV-79-AVI and three DV-59-AVI’s. . None of them are in use because I have all the DVD/BD media stored on a NAS, and just play movies over the network nowadays.

I have both Pioneer LX88 and OPPO 203. Also 83,93,103 in the past.
When play 1080p source, LX88 makes the most cinematic picture of all.
OPP0 203 is fine too especially after I replace the switched mode power supply with Linear type.
But LX88 doesn't respond quickly to each command. OPPO 203 responses to commands much faster.

I am thinking about trying this new Pioneer and also Panasonic UB9000 too.
But I heard OPPO 205 audio-only HDMI makes a really good sound.
Bot sure the Pioneer can do the same.

I'm really excited for the release and have been holding off a UHD player purchase despite being a G6 owner for a while. I have been a LX91 and LX58 owner and the PQ trashes the Oppo 103D flat (although Pioneer is a bit slower in operations). I hope Pionerr embraces superior technology to the much hyped Panasonic UB9000 HCX processor.

"The UDP-LX500 appears to be an evolution of its last premium player, the BDP-LX88.

The LX88 was also a universal player, compatible with Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio. If Pioneer maintains this legacy, it will have the edge on the incoming Panasonic UB9000, which does not support either high-res disc format. We might also expect stereo performance to be served by an ESS Sabre Reference DAC.

Of course, many will wonder if any upcoming premium UHD Blu-ray from Pioneer will support Dolby Vision. There’s no announcement, however the smart money suggests that it may well support Dolby Vision too. Stay tuned for more information."

Universal audio/video receiver (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc.) is achieved.
Universal HDR TV (HDR10, Dolby Vision, HEVC HLG HDR, VP9-HLG / VP9-PQ YouTube HDR, Dynamic HDR) is required.

Push for universal HDR TV!

Is this a dream? IS this something one should not hold their breath over? If Pioneer Releases a Elite Blu ray UHD Dolby Vision Universal players, I may drop down and feel my prayers have been answered.

Credit goes to img eL over at Blu-ray.come for finding this article. Though not English, it contains a picture of part of the back panel of the unit, and the text indicates that this unit does indeed support Dolby Vision.

Hopefully it's a universal disc player, too, but I guess we'll have to wait for specs.

And in addition to the DV sign on the back, am I seeing there correctly only 1 HDMI out?

I think your right on this. I only see one HDMI out as well. For me thats not even a issue as I use a receiver to do all switching.
I'm super excited for this player to hit the market. I really hope it's universal, one more time Pioneer one more time.
There is a very small group of people like me who will still pop in a SACD or DVD AUDIO disc. So chances are slim for us. Sony just supported DVD AUDIO for the first time I can remember on the X800 and X1000es players. Shame they are not Dolby Vision but I'm also glad they are not as I would much rather a Pioneer Elite player.

Yes, no problem for me, neither...I´m super curious about the pricing, though, as Pio is known for quite high MSRP when it comes to spinners...BDP-LX58 started at some 500 EUR/550 USD back in the day.

That’s what I thought, but the article states: “From the photo of the back, we can now also confirm that the player will be equipped with dual HDMI output (one compatible with HDMI 2.0b and the second dedicated to audio bitstream).”.

I wonder if this player can play UHD ISO files from a NAS with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (bitstreaming) Also, does it play mkv files? If yes, than this player will be mine!

UPDATE: I am now the proud owner of a 65" Samsung 8 Series 4K TV! Purchased it at Best Buy yesterday when it was on sale for a great price. Set arrives tomorrow (delivery) and then we can call in our cabinet builder who needs to alter our entertainment center a bit to make the new set fit...

For the time being, I'm going to be running my trusty Oppo BDP-83 to continue to play BDs and DVDs on this display (the salesman at Best Buy, who was a Samsung specialist, advised me after some conversation that their Magnolia division that operates out of San Diego may be able to get a hold of an Oppo 203 or 205, but he's got to get back to me about it); the only question now is going to be how the Oppo is going to make discs look on the new display and if there will be any connectivity issues being that I'm going to be running an HDMI 1.3 connection to the Samsung (so the display will receive 1080p signals, to then be upconverted to 4K I suppose)…

Still looking forward to learning more about this Pioneer deck as it comes in. [EDIT]
