As much as I'm really looking forward to a Pioneer UHD BD Player (I had considered a Panasonic, at first) I can't help but wonder about its internal values and craftmanship.

IIRC the last genuine Pioneer BD Player had been the LX88 in 2015.

Both the announcements of Panasonic and Pioneer seem to be the result of the vacuum left by Oppo's departure.

Does Pioneer still have the necessary Know-How and research capability to now make an outstanding UHD BD player or will the UDP-LX500 rather feature technology from a third party (Panasonic?) but inside a casing that appeals to Pioneer aficionados such as myself?

These are things I would really like to know before I purchase this UHD BD Pioneer player later this year (but of course stay optimistic for the time being).

its a good question frank. I dont really know anymore what this "pioneer" company really is anymore. its a brand name which has sort of morphed over the years. not sure could answer your questions to be honest...

not like pioneer really has any cred in the uhd player market anyways. this would be a 1st effort... and likely expecting us to hand over a lot of cash to find out what it is all about

time will tell. time will answer all I suppose...

Pioneer BDLX UHD player anticipation

I’m sure Pioneer and Onkyo can design their own player especially since Pio has a track record with Blu players as well as a presence in BD drives.

I'm gonna check it out when it hits the market. If it's killer I'll own one. I love that it's Universal.

Looks like it will come down to this and the 9000. 9000 probably being available in the US way sooner.

I remember there being two covered players in the original teaser. Does that mean even a higher end version is coming? I really hope this has Dolby Vision.

has to... no XLRs on a flagship means its no oppo 205 universal disc player replacement.

what we are seeing so far is oppo 203 replacement

That is reserved for the LX800 with better DAC, power supply, etc. Basically an updated version of the LX88.

Wouldn't $1k for a BDP-203 replacement sound like a $2.4k range for a LX800 BDP-205 replacement?

If you look closely, you’ll see it does have DV.

Curious to see how Pioneer handles HDR for projector owners. They will need a Panasonic type dynamic slider (auto adjusting 2019 or manual 2018) to be competitive with this segment of the user base.

yes, absolutely, I agree. Still as of today there is not a single device you can buy or announced featuring HDMI 2.1. Correct me if i'm wrong.

For me personally I would not buy a new receiver without HDMI 2.1, for a player, yes because they are easy to swap out

I'm not sure I would consider a $1,000 player "easy to swap out"
