Yes, that is the Netflix bug.

There is no confirmed workaround. If you turn on SDR to HDR Network conversion in the UB820, it will output SDR BT2020. But I fear that what it might be doing is converting the SDR REC709 stream from Netflix to HDR BT2020 which is then converted to SDR BT2020.

I have my UB820 connected to an LG C8. Am I going to want to use 4:4:4 or 4:2:0 output?

I don't need to change my TV to game mode for 4:4:4 do I?

Interesting question. I'd also like to know if a pj can only handle 4.2.0 does it make a negative difference if you set the UB820 to 4.4.4?

Set it to 4:4:4. It won't output HDR when set to 4:2:0. You won't need to use game mode on the C8.

Would someone mind putting either of the trailers Here on a thumb drive and seeing if the UB820 will play them with audio?

They have lossy Atmos as far as I know, but I can't get any sound from them. I swear when I had a UB820 before I could get it to play MP4s with audio.

Some files I have tried actually give me a warning that the sound format isn't supported. These don't give me that error, but they don't have sound.

Thanks

Just set it to auto and let the display and player negotiate. More than likely it will select 4:2:2/12 bit.

Hey there.

I just called up Netflix support & they confirmed that this player (nor any Panasonic player or TV prior to this year) has a Netflix App which supports Atmos. They also said they weren't aware of the possibility of updating Apps that were already on players. If the App was downloaded however, they say it can be updated...Does this make sense? To me, an App's an App, whether it originally came on the player or if it was downloaded.....

I did notice the TV programs only list "5.1" audio on the UB820 Netflix App, whereas those same programs on my 2019 Panasonic TV & Apple TV 4K list "Atmos" audio.

Did I read right though, that some here have actually got it working? Now that's the confusing part. Maybe a firmware did some magic with the Netflix App???

I had the same issue with alita. Try the dts 5.1 or the non extended versionfor bhd. One one of those will play fine, I forget which. Wish Panasonic would fix this.

Both 4k disks played normally on my 820.

I wonder whether it is an issue with some 820s, or just with the disks?

So far, I have had only one disk that was unplayable. A replacement disk was perfectly OK.

Netflix ATMOS success appears to be related to what AVR you have connected to the UB820. ATMOS seems to work with most recent Denon AVRs, and with the Yamaha A3080 but not the A3060 or older.

stutters / amazon app

hey all!

sorry if this has been answered before: is it normal to have random stutters, for example while watching on the panasonic's amazon app, and if so, is there a solution to this?

it's quite good to use the HDR optimiser for content on amazon, but these random stutters really make me want to switch to my LG C8's internal app.

cheers

Yes. There have been dozens if not hundreds of observations of stuttering on the 820 Prime app. There is a two week old firmware update v1.6. One user has reported this has fixed the stuttering problem. Some users have reported no change. User below reported the update has caused issues.

Just wanted to report that I’ve used this player heavily now for a week (at least 7 titles) without a single issue. It works great. The tone mapping options are really nice for fine tuning. Great player. Wish it was cheaper but nothing compares so it’s all relative.

For the HDMI/Advanced Settings you posted photos of, you can safely set those to Auto, but for the HDMI/4K60 Output setting, this must be set to 4:4:4 or the 820 will not output HDR.

Per Panasonic: "When "4K/60p(4:2:0)" is selected, video is output in 4K/60p(4:2:0/8-bit)."

4:2:0/8-bit is SDR

Just one. My receiver is a Denon AVR-X4300H.

The audio is bitstream (Atmos or DTS:X) when available.

I am on 1.6 (was on 1.55 but updated when i set it up), has lots of stuttering. actually, it's not really stuttering, but freezing/frame skipping. the picture freezes for a short time, then starts again several frames later.

sometime this means a person has their arm down, next frame after the freeze/stutter, the arm is in a whole different position.

well...that's making the amazon/hdr optimiser feature useless, because it's quite unwatchable like this. will escalate to panasonic support - maybe i'll receive a replacement unit that doesn't exhibit this problem.

i thought maybe one of the player settings could cause this, or something in the connection chain / TV settings, but seems to be an app bug.

Thank you very much.

My AVR is a RXA2050, so it falls within the ‘unsupported’ range.

But can I ask, are those with working AVR’s seeing the ‘Atmos’ tag in the program summary screen within Netflix, or just the “5.1” tag?
