It has been a year plus, but I'm pretty sure that the batteries were not in the 820's remote. They are AAs, and not rechargeable. I can't swear to it, but I believe that AAs are never pre-installed, because they eventually will leak.

I don't know. I would hope that Comcast supplied a cable that would work with their box. (My Comcast cable box is only HD, so I can use almost any HDMI cable with it.)

The ones to get are Certified Premium. (See the attached.) They are rated to 18 Gbps, which is required for some 4k content. They can be quite cheap.

Not having certified ones does not mean that they can't work.

If you need additional cables, I suggest not getting them at Best Buy. $10 is relatively cheap for BB, but you can get certified ones (Monoprice and others) online (Amazon and elsewhere) for less. If you want higher-end cables, it probably makes no sense to buy more expensive ones than Blue Jeans (http://www.bluejeanscable.com/). Avoid Audioquest unless you're the sort of person who can always see/hear improvement for every dollar spent, or seriously into audiophile pseudoscience.

I buy all my HDMI cables from Blue Jean's Cable.

Been reading through here to see if I have things setup corectly. Seems I'm getting the right output signal but if someone could confirm I would really appreciate it. Picture below shows signal info from Overlord 4k disc. Thanks.

Can someone share their recommended video/picture settings for using this player with an LG Oled?

I just hooked it up to my 65C8 and am uncertain about some of them. Especially the whole 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 setting. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

How to go to a specific time

I asked earlier but no replies. I hope someone knows.

How do you go to a specific time on a DVD/Blu-ray or MKV?

I just got the DP-UB820 and I've looked through the online PDF manual and I cannot see how to do it.
This is such a basic feature, there must be a way to do it. Otherwise, why would you need the numbers on the remote.

The ub820 can be forced to output DV with a DV title when spoofed with a Sony or LG EDID, but not with SDR or HDR content, only DV content.

It is worth noting, if you're XBOX is one of the newer S/X models, it can be forced to output DV. I believe one of the EDIDs is the LG C8. You're XBOX might be doing what it has been designed to do with the C8 DV content, but is also mistakenly doing it with SDR content, which would look affected. This should not happen with the ub820 based on my testing.
I took delivery of a UB820 and tested this, and so far its behavior is mirroring the Xbox, which is what I was concerned about. I've perused the settings and tried turning off everything that seemed like it could affect it, but so far, no luck.

Here is what I'm seeing with Netflix specifically...

With Dolby Vision turned ON in the UB820 settings:

ALL of Netflix forces my LG C8 into its DV preset. Obviously for DV content, this is fabulous, but for SDR content, this is not at all desirable.

With Dolby Vision turned OFF in the UB820 settings:

Netflix displays SDR content properly, however, DV content reverts to being displayed in HDR.

How can I resolve this so that I don't need to toggle DV on / off each time I'm changing content?

Thanks.

Apologies for the back-to-back posts, but I’m looking for some general recommendations on settings for both disc playback and streaming. My goal is to maintain audio and video fidelity as much as possible. How much do I want to mess with the HDR Optimizer (or do I at all?)

Gear:

Professionally calibrated LG C8
Denon x3300w AVR
5.2 speaker configuration (no Atmos)

Thank you.

Just finished watching Captain America 1-3 4K UHD DolbyAtmos in 5.1.4; on my ub820 over uhd60 optoma. The contrast & colors via SDR bt2020 WCG 10bit looked fantastic!! I have never seen Capt's uniform look so blue; and black widow's red hair; some truly spectacular stuff. Civil War having the most special effects; looked and sounded amazing! My eyes were amazed.

Thanks Panasonic UB820 for finally unlocking my 4K UHD movie discs; they look fantastic!

If the C8 is calibrated I would just set the Display Type to OLED and not change the Optimizer default settings.

JVC Projector Bright Curves; Optimizing HDR;

By default the Optimizer is off. Does that mean I should keep it off, or turn it on and not adjust any specific settings? Or is that just the same as "off"?

I returned it to Amazon and picked up one from Best Buy. The price was the same. New one is working great.

Just bought one of these yesterday.

Been 10 years since I have bought a new dvd player.

Why are there two HDMI outs? (One says Audio the other is A/V)? I thought audio and video were both run on one HDMI cable?

I will be hooking this up to a Marantz Av7705 pre/pro to a 2019 model 85" Sony or Samsung LED.

😎It's just life, dude. We are all gonna die sometime--Might as well try and have a kickass time while we're still here.😜

The 2nd hdmi is audio only, in case you want to run it to your audio receiver.

In what situation would you do this?

Like if you wanted to run separate HDMIs to separate the Audio to the pre-pro and the Video straight to the TV?

What is the purpose of this?

It's for older receivers that don't support 4k/HDR/DV, that way you can still run audio through the receiver and 4k video options by running the video straight to your TV

A couple of reasons as others have mentioned,
In my case I like running a direct connection to my tv and not through my receiver (even though it’ has 4K pass through), and then a direct audio connection to my receiver.

The 820 was meant for the UHD60. Getting proper tone mapping really allows you to see what your projector is capable of.

How are you using it? With a projector? Passing HDR or doing SDR with bt2020? If SDR bt2020, you definitely want to turn the optimizer on.

It's an OLED (calibrated LG C8), so I've left it off. I'm just looking to verify that I wouldn't have any reason to use it given my setup.

Thanks, peeps!

So its just like the old-school days of running s-video/component video cables straight to the tv to bypass the receiver for those who wanted the best possible picture.

I run mine the same way so i don't have anything messing with picture quality. I only use the optimizer on 4000 nit or higher movies on my C8 oled. On 1000 nit movies i see no difference with the optimizer on but def do with higher nit movies.

I made a discovery yesterday that seems to explain why I never got Atmos from Amazon Prime Video when others say they do.

I experimented sending a Dolby Vision LLDV signal to my non-DV JVC projector and noticed my AVR reporting Atmos for Jack Ryan. I went back to sending HDR10 and my AVR reported DD+ with no Atmos. So it seems to me that Amazon, at least in some cases, has Atmos for Dolby Vision but not for HDR10.

Got my first projector and this player this fall. Netflix and prime seem to work well on it. Is there a way to stream Disney+ on it?

What is the purpose of this?
Dual HDMI is essential as some of us have audio only processor/preamps. I don't ever want video "passed through" any device aside from a hi-end video processor. Finally, my 820 sits with my front projector in the back of the theater and the audio electronics are in the front.
