I was just in a Best Buy Magnolia last Friday, no sign of Pioneer UHD Players at all, but they did have stacks of Sony 800s, for better or worse.

To be truthful, last few years, I've spent more of my electronics budget on computers and mobile (phones, iPads) than on home theater, and that is probably fairly typical of the US based consumer. Things have gone more personal than room based. About all I've bought during that period, home-theater wise, was a Roku 4k box. Still, now that I am in the market for an upgraded TV (thinking probably a LG OLED, would have definitely considered a Panasonic OLED if they still sold them in the US), it is a little discouraging to be running around looking for something decent. I would have been buying this-year's-Oppo, if I could have, but I missed that boat. It is not so much whether or not I can come up with a K for Pioneer, it is just that I want to see one in person before spending that kind of money. It is not a fortune, but the Panasonic 820 (also hard to find) is about half as much. Pioneer stuff used to be a lot easier to find.

This Pioneer player is very quiet and doesn’t get remotely warm.
I initially used a powerline adapter for Ethernet when I first got this player before finally running an Ethernet line to my theater room.

I think it's silly/stupid of Pioneer to not make the player more available
I'm in Europe (Denmark) and no dealers have it
Now I'll buy the Panasonic UB9000 instead

This Pioneer player is a beast!! Absolutely love the picture quality coming from it, even at 1080p. It’s super quiet and I can’t even here the disc tray when it opens and closes. Load times on disc are super fast. I have zero complaints about it.

That’s funny! I got mine when the first run was available in the States before dealers ran out of them. Be patient. It’s well worth the wait. I have an OPPO BDP-105 and completely missed out on upgrading to the 4K version. I just never thought OPPO would close shop because their players are so revered in this industry. Oh well, the Pioneer is great!!

I'm loving mine too. Best player yet (and I've had quite a few the last 10 years or so). Loading speed was better on my Oppo UDP-203 however, but by a small fraction only.

I don't think anyone can see a diff. My older Pioneer Elite FD05 and non Elite FD51 do just as good as many of my OPPO's and the Sammy UHD player does the same as my 203.

I don't need to be patient, I am very patient. I have an Oppo 203 in the rack, and a spare in the closet for years from now, if and when that one craps out. Also have an Oppo 95 in the rack for music playback, via the headphone rig. So I'm not in a hurry, by any means. I thought about selling the 95 and getting the pio. I was interested in the pio because I like the sound of the AKM dacs, I only need two channel analog, not multi-channel, and of course like most on these forums, I'd just like to try something new. But at this rate, I'm not unhappy with my 95.

I also contemplated a SACD player, not a uhd player. All the mid priced ones have bit the dust till recently. Denon now has one. There is also a new one out there now, the Arcam CDS50 for 1200 bucks. Looks very interesting. Balanced connections, networking capability.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_410CDS50/ARCAM-CDS50.html

I guess as time goes on, I'll just lose interest with the pioneer, and move on, or just keep what I have.

Can you adjust the HDR-SDR Adj. setting without stopping the movie?
I'm very torn between the LX500 and the Panasonic UB9000
One small thing: On the LX500 you can turn the player display off, you can only dim it on the UB9000
I'm down to small stuff like that

How LX 500 does an up scaling to 4k picture quality comparing to Oppo 203/205?
How in general 4k picture quality compares? I read somewhere in this forum that picture is softer on LX 500.

Just FYI for those interested in getting the LX500. I called pioneer today and they referred me to the supply vendor for the LX500. They told me that, as you all know, the LX500 is very limited in supply. Apparently, there were 800 orders for all of north america, and 150-180 will be received in this current allocation. So if you've already ordered one, you may want to check where you are in the queue with whomever you ordered it from.

I owned the Oppo UDP-203 (which you can read about in my OP review) and my eyes see no difference at all in terms of plain picture quality. Both machines are truly excellent performers in this particular respect. I chose the Pioneer for other reasons. I experience no lack of sharpness whatsoever. I did read that comment too but still wonder how it came about, if there was something wrong going on there (?).

Sadly I cannot comment on upscaling since I set my player to 'Source Direct' so that my display handles this part.

don't have an answer to that unfortunately. I had placed my order on nov 12 at abt online, and the vendor told me that abt would only be getting 2 of the 20 they had ordered for this allocation. when i called abt they told me i was 1 of 2. Hopefully, I receive the player sometime next week! Looking forward to getting it up and running.

I'd sure like to know the answer to that myself. I put in a question to pioneer on their US support page. I had a simple on sentence question. "Do you plan to have any US inventory available in the near future?'' Kinda a snarky question I know, but jeez. Of course, I have not gotten an answer.

All things considered your question makes sense. Besides Pioneer should just act happy folks want their player!

I think people need to keep in mind buyers of players in this price range are in the minority. The lower price players are selling well, manufacturers and distributors have to make decisions of how many to stock otherwise you’ll end up with stockrooms packed with unsold inventory and having to either ship back to Pioneer or sell at a discount.

True on one hand, on the other it's not a good business strategy to underestimate demand either. Pioneer have been in the business long enough. They decided to join the UHD BD player market because they wanted to sell their machines and believed there were enough interested buyers at this price level, which clearly there is.

Hopefully Pioneer will catch up. The LX500 is an amazing machine too good to be missed due to lack of availability.

I agree you don't want to have too much inventory, but when you have 800 NA orders and you are shipping out 120-150, that's a bit of an underestimation. Plus I'd think you'd want to get as many of these in folks hands as soon as possible and let word of mouth (and forum) spread the news about your player. Particularly at Xmas. And if they are trying to make it seem like demand is so great by intentionally squeezing inventory, that would just make me

Unfortunately that isn’t how retail operates inventory and accounting ends after the holiday. Unsold merchandise counts against the bottom line, the distributor operates in this manner as well. Say for instance I’m merchant A I look at how many Panasonic 900 I sold in the past two years to gauge my initial order of the LX500. Over ordering will bust my budget to purchase the Panasonic 820 or the Sony x700 which I know I can move especially due to the lower price. A retail buyer job can be on the line by not following the previous trends and over buying a particular item. I’ve seen buyers lose their job immediately after the end of a fiscal year by over estimating a consumer’s desire.

Btw all this gambling on a new device from Pioneer takes on new meaning when a direct ship company like Oppo pulls out.

Oh well, the Pioneer is great!!

Does this player have any sort of tone mapping like the Panasonic 820 and does it have the ability to play 4K MKV file and bit stream the audio?
