The 900 remote doesn't have the HDR setting. The 9000 does.

You are correct. They eliminated the Miracast button.

Just as information on my Panasonic UB820.
It works perfect every-time with No-Issues at all.
And the UB900 remote I love as it has the darn LIGHT option that the UB820 remote doesn't.

I think if your looking for a much more normal priced 4K player to do exactly that with it's Auto-Tone-Mapping you won't be disappointed.

I Do-Not use the UB820 for (Streaming) only playing hard disc.

Good-Luck,
Terry

I saw a YouTube video that compared the 9000 to the 820. The 820 actually looked better with a non HDR video: Despicable Me 2. That assumes the test was set up correctly. I am thinking that I can buy quite a few UHD discs with the $500 savings. I am going to wait for a while and see what happens. Yes, I definitely need a light. I just purchased a Sony 940E. There is no light on the cheap remote they give you.

Hey folks, got a couple of questions before i buy this one:

Does this player decode DTS-HD, TrueHD, Atmos within the MKV container? Also, does it switch to 24hz modes when a MKV movie is player with that fps or this only works for Discs? Thanks!

The PQ of the 9000vs820 is the same, no differences; they are based on the same architecture... even the small 420, the EU one without display and DV, has the same PQ and HDR Optimizer...

The only real differences are the build quality and the analog audio section... if your choice is based only on PQ, no need to go for the UB9000...

Correct, afaik, with one exception: the 9000 provides a 350-nit based Display Mode for HDR which is useful when playing UHD/HDR content on Projectors.

Same. I have the 9004 since it was the option available here in the Netherlands. Seems to vary per country even in the EU

Correct, but that is just a software function implemented by firmware... there is nothing, hardware wise, in the 820 that prevents it...
Said that, I own the UB9000 and I'm more than. happy with it... I don't like the 820 build quality... I'm "old fashioned"...

That's my understanding as well, and why we're hoping that Panasonic will add the 350-nit option to the UB820, for those of us who have projectors, and don't need or want the audiophile hardware, and are satisfied with it's build.

Not at all, Panasonic doesn´t like another thing than original discs. If you need these features go for an Oppo UDP-203 or a Pioneer LX-500.

Greetings.

LG OLED 55C8 // Oppo UDP-203 // Yamaha RX-V775 // Magnat Supreme

I suggest you call the place that currently has exclusivity which is Value Electronics. You could ask them and also perhaps find out if they have any coming in soon if you are interested in buying one. They are an excellent dealer.

It appears there is no longer a waiting list with VE, so I would imagine we'll be seeing some other retailers getting them in the next couple months.

I am hoping that Best Buy in tax free NH sells it in case I decide to buy one. They sell the 820.

Stocks of the UB9000 have always been very low even in Europe... currently Panasonic EU talk of Jun for the next batch. Talked with them last week...

I don't think we will ever see a wide diffusion of them in brick and mortar chains... we need to keep in mind that we are a niche and the market is on streaming devices and low end players...

The EU units are produced in Panasonic European Farm located in Czechoslovakia, but the corporate policy looks to build a very small number of players...
And this is Europe, where prices and margins are higher than in the US... and there is a tradition and a wide market for luxury goods...
I doubt that Panasonic will decide to sell a huge number of players on the American market, at a lower profit margin, when there is still a high and not fulfilled need on the European and Asian markets (were punters pay higher prices for their gadgets with much less returns than in the USA).
And that is the primary reason why you can buy a Panasonic OLED TV in the EU but not in the US...
My two cents...

Pioneer UDP-LX500 - Oppo 203EU - Panasonic DP-UB9000 - SONY X-800 UHD BLU-RAY -Apple TV 4K - Marantz SR6013 in 5:1:2 Dolby ATMOS/DTS:X Config - KLIPSH REFERENCE (Towers + Central + 2 surrounds + 2 Atmos Enabled) - KLIPSH R-120SW SUBWOOFER- LG OLED 65C8 - LG OLED 55B7 - OPTOMA UHD60 4K/HDR Projector on 110' SCREEN- Toshiba HD-EP30 HDDVD PLAYER - NAIM ND5 XS 2 streamer - NAIM NAIT XS 2 stereo amplifier - Roon Core on the network

I think the markup on the UB9000 is too high at twice the price of the 820. I think there is some room for a reduced price.
Again, I may just buy the 820. I just checked Best Buy and it has to be ordered They have a four year warranty for about $82, which I think is very good.

If you want it before July stick with VE. It should still be tax free sent to NH, but call to make sure, and a warranty can be purchased anywhere. If BB doesn’t show stock in a warehouse it can take a while to order and get it. Hope you find one, it’s really a nice piece of gear.

A premium reseller I know explained me that at the moment almost all the 9000s are sold well before their production; and that is all right with Panasonic..
There is no interest to dump the price of the premium product, that is quite expensive to produce, when the 820 is much, much cheaper to produce and with 99.9% equal video performance...
If you want the 9000 you pay the premium.
For Panny is a win/win situation.
...for the punters too... you can access the same exact video technology on the cheaper models... if you need a 9000, most likely, you got an expensive high end audio system... so you spend huge amounts of money for your hobby and 1000 €s are a sort of bargain compared to other av gear you own...
If for you 1000 €s are a lot of money... you don't really need the 9000... as well as you don't need a Ferrari to commute in the morning, your Toyota will be much better...
South Park likes this.

Right now I am leaning towards the 820 with the better remote. I can use the savings for other things.

Interesting analogy, but quite the stretch none the less. If Ferraris were only 500 more than Toyotas, we'd see alot more Ferraris on the road I think.

What is the U.S. warranty on the 9000? Is it better than the one year for the 820?
