It's a Dolby problem. Same issue with the LX500.

I don't see any clipped highlights, not sure what you are talking about...I watch every Vincent video and he raved about UB9000.

I've seen that one. It's not a bug, he's describing how there's some differences between scenes and movies and no consistency from DV, even though that's what DV is supposed to be about

There's no clipping issue

Exclamation

Guys,

Just my (Opinion) like others on here.
The Panasonic UB9000 really in most/majority of cases comes down to it's cost.
That's just the way it is with it and any other high-end gear.
Any gear can always be picked at ..............

I love mine and would make the exact same decision again !!!
I have played DVD's, Blu-ray's and of course 4K Ultra Blu-ray's and it has not one time done anything at all weird.
It's a great piece of gear if you don't mind it's cost.
I think it's actually something anyone with the Higher-End truly "Dedicated" Home Theater would not only want but a must have.
(Especially if they have a "Projector")

Well, I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gotten my UB9000 after all. I purchased it for the improved HDR to SDR tone mapping for my JVC NX7 projector. Now with the new JVC firmware coming and its support for Frame Adapt HDR I wonder if I will even want to turn on the HDR optimizer in the UB9000? There are those that say it would be a bad idea to do so.

His first sentence says it all, the DV on the ub9000 (ub820) blows out bright highlights more than the oppo 203 DV. I have also tested what he is saying on my C8 oled with both players and he is right, there is more bright highlights on the oppo 203. Some others on another forum has tested this and came up with the same conclusion. We are not talking about how DV has differences in scenes with its dtm but how it preserves more bright highlights like the sun or fire etc. with the oppo where the ub9000/ub820 blows out more highlights. I use my ub820 for hdr-10 movies and my oppo 203 for DV discs.

Exactly, you get it. Thanks for confirming and a bummer for sure. Hopefully Dolby will be able to get this resolved via firmware. I should have kept my 205 though, lol, oh well...

Does the Prime Amazon app on the 9000 play Dolby Vision?

I have my SONY 65 inch 930e (Dolby Vision capable) paired with my Panasonic 9000.

Enjoying my 4k Blu Ray collection in HDR and Dolby Vision with this pair. Everything runs smoothly.

Titles in HDR show up in HDR...titles in Dolby Vision show up in Dolby Vision (unlike the SONY models that you have to manually turn Dolby Vision on and off).

I just became an AMAZON PRIME member and I have a question.

I see that I can get HDR but can I also get Dolby Vision from this app on my 9000???

In the last 2 hrs since I became an AMAZON PRIME member I viewed a few titles from my 9000 app and I got HDR and all is fine but what about Dolby Vision?

If the 9000 does Dolby Vision from the AMAZON PRIME app then what titles should I try?

I have read that NETFLIX app on the 9000 plays "everything" in Dolby Vision and you have to turn Dolby Vision off if you dont want "everything' in Dolby Vision. Correct?

I havent tried NETFLIX yet since I am not a member as of this moment.

Please inform me about the AMAZON PRIME app on my 9000
and if i am correct on the NETFLIX app on my 9000?

Greatly appreciated!

You have to turn Dolby vision on and then prime will show. Dolby vision when available Jack Ryan is a good example. Dv and atmos

I have DOLBY VISION set to "on" within my 9000 settings so when playing 4k Blu Ray discs in Dolby Vision it switches to Dolby Vision automatically. No problem.

Do you mean there is a setting in the AMAZON app itself that I should look for to turn Dolby Vision on?

Or setting the DOLBY VISION setting to "on" on my 9000 is all that is necessary.

Amazon is a bit confusing make sure you pick the 4k hdr version of the program that’s why I suggested Jack Ryan 4k ultra it one of the few Amazon prime in Dolby vision and yes you have to have the panny set ever on. Amazon switches automatically this way Netflix shows everything in dv which is dumb and I wish Panasonic would correct it.

Does the Prime Amazon app on the 9000 play Dolby Vision?

Bravo!

Thanks William 06!

Jack Ryan in both Dolby Vision and ATMOS !!!!

Stunning pic and sound. I am thankful

Is that the only title in Dolby Vision on the AMAZON / 9000 app?

I am on the Free 30 day trial for now and dont know if I am going to keep AMAZON PRIME or not.

Just playing around for now.

Also notice that the black bars on some titles on the AMAZON app on the 9000 is grey!

Some titles the black bars are black.

I dont know it's on the AMAZON series or the AMAZON movies that are affected this way.

Have u noticed that about the black bar issue on the AMAZON app on the 9000?

Also---
on the 9000 the INTERNET (NET) is so sluggish.

Sometimes the INTERNET (NET) doesnt open up to the apps OR it gets "stuck" opening up

It takes a few pressing of the HOME button to get it back to the HOME screen then you can go back to the INTERNET (NET).

Sometimes works perfectly and the INTERNET(NET) apps open up tho it is still sluggish.

Sometimes the opening of the INTERNET (NET) doesnt open .

The entire INTERNET (NET) is ridicuoulsy sluggish

To adress your above concerns. The amazon prime app does not offer a lot of dv,but a good bit of hdr10 which can be quite beautiful using the optimizer. Yes the prime app on the 9000 can be a bit sluggish ,how much so depends on the rest of your system. Internet speed, cables HDMI chords. Etc. you might like an atv4k and a Netflix premium account. Or a roku 4k device. You are always going to get the absolute best though from 4k uhd discs dv,or hdr10. Sorry I am rambling.

The apps on my SONY 930E is quick to scroll thru with OREO. A pleasure.

The apps (INTERNET/NET) on the 9000 is sluggish to open, sometimes getting stuck when opening and sluggish to scroll thru, annoying !

No problems with discs...100% perfect...fast and quiet..no delays...

It's just the 9000 INTERNET/NET

No problem with the YOU TUBE app on the 9000.

It's just the INTERNET/NET when it opens is sluggish, sometimes gets stuck while opening and now with AMAZON PRIME :
very sluggish scrolling thru the AMAZON PRIME menu

Bosch Season 2 on Prime uses Dolby Vision (or it did; Amazon may have replaced it by now since it's several years old). None of the other Bosch seasons use Dolby Vision, only HDR.

Post Home Theater High Fidelity ... October 7th 2019

Guys,

Just now saw this and thought some of you might also enjoy seeing & reading the review on the Panasonic UB9000.

Panasonic DP-UB9000 Ultra HD (4K) Blu-ray Player Review – Part 1 – Video

In this review, I checked out a new high-end Ultra HD (4K) Blu-ray Player from Panasonic, the DP-UB9000.

https://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/...-part-1-video/

Quote:
If reference-quality video is your goal, only a premium optical disc player can deliver it. The Panasonic DP-UB9000 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is a high-end source component built in the tradition of fine electronics. A stout chassis is filled with only the very best parts that work together to produce the best possible quality from optical disc formats. With support for HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG; along with dual HDMI outputs, 7.1 analog audio, and balanced stereo connections; it even earns a THX certification. Those seeking the ultimate in video and sound quality may very well have found their ideal source component.

Just returned the 820 and ordered the 9000...super impressed with the 820 connected to JVC NX-7, but 820 does not have a backlit remote. Wife says, "you spent $500 more for a remote". YUP.

You can find the remote by itself, as I found one I use with my ub820.

I need a 4k player and cant decide between this and the 820. The main reasons I like the 9000 is the build quality and also the front loading tray and not having to flip something down to swap a disc.

If price isn't an issue, I think it's worth it from a build quality and aesthetic purposes. My player is the only visible piece of equipment on my entertainment stand, so I appreciate how it looks, lol.

With regard to the 820 you don't have to flip anything down when you open/close the tray its all automatic
