Yeah, that sounds pretty stupid. Fortunately for me, I never try playing CDs on my 9000. I have a number of other devices that support CDs, SACDs and DVD-As that don't have this restriction.

Mine works fine, just checked, with that same hookup. UB9000 -> Anthem AVM 60 on HDMI, display off with CD source.

When I only want to play music, I switch to an unused HDMI out on my Marantz pre-pro, then all is well.

So the key takeaway is that if you’re a hard-core Clive Cussler fan and you insist on watching a terrible 70s film adaptation of his most famous novel, you should avoid the Panasonic 9000?

Had problems with the "We, The Marines" 4K disc. Couldn't get it to play in 3840x2160, only 1920x1080. BUT, the extra "addendum" feature did play in 3840x2160. On top of that, the main feature played in HDR but even so the Gamma defaulted to 2.2 whereas any HDR material I have usually defaults to Frame Adapt HDR no problem, on my JVC NX7. Tried this disc on my Sony 800 with the same results. Any one else have problems with this disc?

EDIT: False alarm, apparently. I tried it the other day had had no problems whatsoever. All I can think is that it was probably a handshake issue with my Arcam AVR850 receiver. Otherwise, worked beautifully and I could definitely tell the difference between HD and 4K resolution.

Any tricks as to switching display type with remote commands? I see you can dig through the menu and switch between OLED,LCD, PJ etc and I would like to know if there is a way to do this without menu diving. Thanks.

Will second this! Plays music CD without any problems! Hooked up to Marantz SR7013 thru HDMI input. Monitor does not need to be on or detected. Not sure what the above poster was experiencing? Sounds great BTW!

In my case the issue wasn't with the player, but with the length and type of HDMI cable between my Marantz prepro and the projector, a 35' active cable that tells the prepro when the projector is on and off, thus the need to take the HDMI cable out of the chain by switching to an unused HDMI output.

Mine works fine also. I have my Panasonic UB9000 connected to my Denon AVR-X3600H. I DON'T need my projector turned-on in order to play CD's. (I don't have a TV, just the projector). We just put the CD's into the 9000 and they play fine. We went through a stack of a dozen Christmas CD's during the holidays without any problems.

All of my HDMI cables are Monoprice Certified Premium (the orange sticker) at 4K; but the longest of mine is only 15-feet.

Hello,

Do you think that i will win something in term of picture quality with the UB9000 compare to an Apple TV 4K, with Netflix?

I currently have a OPPO 203 and if the change is interesting, could sell my oppo and get the Panasonic?

I have a X770 JVC projector

Thanks

No idea what specifically, but yes, if you have it on, the front display is turned off during playback, which is great for light controlled projector setups.

It turns off the video signals that affect audio playback, including the front display. This affects music playback more than movies in general.
Try it both ways to see what you prefer.

It doesn't have any effect for movie playback. It's only when it recognizes a CD or music disc, it can turn off the front display of the player and the video output to your monitor. The manual is vague, but that's what I've gathered from my testing and scouring online with UB900 as well (which had same feature).

How can I set the player to stop up-rez'ing to 4K (set a "passthrough" in other words) so I can let my JVC NX7 projector do the up-rez'ing instead?

Per soundandvision.com: "There's another feature called High Clarity Sound that's directly acces- sible via a dedicated button on the remote. Push this once and some of the player's video circuits that might interfere with audio get shut down, though the disc directory remains displayed onscreen (assuming you're using a screen). Push it a second time and it turns off the screen output as well." https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...-review-page-2

You can’t. But you also don’t want that because the Panasonic is much better al upscaling. That’s the only thing that’s disappointing about my N7.

No. This has been discussed ad nauseum. For file streaming get a dedicated streaming device.

Thanks for the reply. Several people on the JVC thread said the same thing and I have to admit I am very surprised that the Panasonic is better at scaling than the JVC NX7. All the more reason for people thinking about the Panasonic to go for it.

We've seen it with Monte Carlo, Hopscotch, and a couple others. It is striking because blu-rays should look better than that in the 9000. I'm running the latest firmware... Other blu-rays look fine.

Also, to touch on your other point: I've been running the 9000 since 8am playing a stack of Christmas CD's. The only thing that is slightly annoying with the 9000 is that after I put in the disk, I have to push Play (and after a delay of 20 seconds). With my Oppo 103D, I just put in the disk and it started playing.

Scott
To answer my own question, the Panasonic 9000 does indeed have a mosquito noise filter (in the video processing menu). Mine was previously set to "0", but now I have it set to "2". It seems to help.

I'm not sure *why* some of my bluray disks have mosquito noise on the 9000 and some don't, but apparently the Panasonic folks knew about the issue and added a filter for it. I had never noticed this mosquito noise on my Oppo 103D when playing blurays (natively), so I assume that it is in the bluray-to-4K conversion process since I run my 9000 in 4K output mode...

Hey im looking at either the 9000 or 820. I keep finding conflicting information on both of them. Do they both share the same HDR optimizer or does the 9000 offer better lower nits tone mapping for projectors?

For all of you UB9000 owners: You may have seen then various posts here and on Blu-ray.com about there being two 15 second pauses, about two minutes apart during one scene in the DV version of Midway when it's played on the UB-820. The HDR10 format has no problems. Have any of you gotten Midway and, if so, do the same pauses occur at 37.17 and 39.26? Since the two units have essentially the same video processors, I would expect the 9000 to experience the pauses also but it would nice to get that confirmed. Thanks.
