If the 4K UHD blu-ray movie does not have Dolby Vision meta data then your DP-UB9000/DP-UB820 will default to HDR10. The same is true for HDR10+. I know of no 4K UHD Blu-ray movies with both Dolby Vision & HDR10+, so the reason you are seeing HDR10+ on your GZ1000 is because the X-Men Dark Phoenix movie you are watching has HDR10+ meta data and does NOT have Dolby Vision meta data on the disc. Same goes for you Apocolypse Now movie, you are seeing Dolby Vision because it is encoded with the Dolby Vision meta data. So their is no defaulting or "overwriting" to Dolby Vision or HDR10+ as was advised earlier, it is simply what is encoded on the 4K UHD blu-ray disc movie you are watching. Also if you have both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ turned "OFF" in the player, the player will always automatically play all 4K UHD-bluray movies in HDR10.

Alita and Robin Hood (2018) both have Dolby Vision and HDR10+

Good to know as I have Alita, but don't have an HDR10+ capable display. The reasoning for "ryekar"'s issue still stands. I am now curious which video processing would occur/default to on his Panasonic GZ1000 if both Dolby Vision & HDR10+ are turned on in the DP-UB9000/DP-UB820 when playing "Alita" since his display panel is capable of both?

I see that the Panasonic app store is pretty limited for options, too bad it doesn't have something like plex for local media. question, how is the UI for playing local network media, is it a lot of navigation or relatively good? i know it is not meant to be like Shield or other local mini streaming boxes with cover art and robust UI, but just wondering how many steps it takes to play local media. Thanks for any feedback.

For MUSIC, I can use my Synology Diskstation DSAudio app (which is a DLNA controller) and it works great. It will stream 2ch and Mch DSD along with FLAC. I haven't tested video network streaming.

The actual user interface is slow when you use the remote unless you have a really organized folder structure.

I do not have neither but from reading in other threads the experience was if you have a display that can do both DV and HDR10+, and you have both DV and HDR10+ selected on the UB9000 then HDR10+ will be used (of course with a disc that has both DV and HDR10+).

If you want to see DV on these specific situation you would have to turn HDR10+ off on the UB9000.

Do the international (non-Japanese) versions of the UB9000 still have Master Grade Video Coding (MGVC) support for some select Japanese Blu-rays? It's basically a poor man's HDR that uses some tricks to output 12-bit colour on Blu-rays.
I know most of the Studio Ghibli Blu-rays have MGVC since 2012's double feature release of My Neighbour Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies but it's only for their Japanese releases.

I really hope someone with...:
A. A Blu-ray with MGVC (most likely a Ghibli one since they're the most popular)
B. A Panasonic UB9000 that is not a Japanese model
C. A TV that supports deep colour
...can test out if MGVC is still in something like an American/European version of the UB9000.

Correct as I spelled out in a previous post. It's also explained on page 30 of the Panasonic UB 9000 Owners Manual.

Is there a means to connect a keyboard to the UB9000 in order to use it for apps rather than the slow way of using the remote?

Just curious, does one know if Panasonic has a the "Service Manual" (not the user manual) available for this player? I was unable to find it and I know Panasonic used to have them for their DVD line.

Thanks

HI All,

I was ended up in this forum while i searched in google why my pana ubd9000 showing audio freeze for couple of seconds and resume without any issue after 5-6 seconds of musictrack.

Eventhough i didn't find an actual answer from here, thought of sharing how i fixed my issue and may be useful for other freeze/trackskips(only seconds) issues.

Overview--I have my pana 9000 connected to my yammy stereo amp via RCA and also connected to my yammy AVR via HDMI. when i play music cds or FLAC files from usb i encountered track skip issue.

Findings--Turned out that the issue is when I play via stereo amp , My AVR HDMI signal is still outputting in intervals(you can see that in yammy receiver in front panel HDMI1/2 out blinking) and at the same time my audio out/track got paused for seconds and skip track to 5 or 6 seconds

Solution:-- Turn off the HDMI output in yammy Receiver. Issue resolved.

Please note this issue won't resolve even if you turn off the Hdmi audio out from pana ub9000 player. I believe a small signal is still passing through or back feeding from receiver which caused issue.

Hope this helps other . Cheers

I think there is a misunderstanding here. Mate, I am aware that Apocolypse Now is DV and Dark Phoenix is HDR10+, but this will just go in circles.

CD playback quality?

Currently using a UB820 for movies on a Sony 950G 85” screen and an old problematic Denon CD player for music. I could migrate the 820 upstairs and replace it IF the 9000 had high quality CD playback. Currently considering a Marantz ND8006 for music but wondered if the 9000 would be worthy of consideration. Any experience with the 9000 CD playback? Thanks!

CD playback is probably very good based upon the measurements at AudioScienceReview. Your Denon has Alpha processing which may result in a different sound.

Like everyone else, I find the UB9000's timeout during pausing of disk playback really annoying. At this point, after queuing up to the actual start of the movie, I unpause/pause every 5 minutes to keep the window alive while we're cooking dinner. Then we want to sit down, bless the meal, press play, and eat/watch.

Does anyone know of a special service menu or key combination to disable the timeout? Panasonic isn't doing themselves any good with this "feature" and for me is just creating ill will. Otherwise I'm extremely happy with my UB9000 and it is a shame that this forced setting is causing negative feelings about my player.

Thanks,

Scott

Just curious, does anyone know if there is a way to change the country code of the player to get around geo-locked discs?

Hello,

I just received my UB9000 today and I am wondering where I can find the optimal settings for my LG CX OLED? I started on page one and skipped a few pages here and there but didn't see a summary of a recommended configuration. Any suggestions?

Hard to say.

High Luminance Projector is 500 nits, which lets your LG do the last bit of tone mapping scaling to the peak brightness. Sound and Vision liked that approach with the Sony A9G. Panasonic's OLED tone map setting is still 1000 nits.

Make sure you turn on the HDR Optimizer. Then, you can play with the reference HDR curve vs. the various brighter ones that work for daytime viewing, etc.

You will also need to turn on Dolby Vision support which I don't believe is automatic.

The sharpening is tricky because it's some combination of the player's algorithms + the TV's. In rare cases, I see aliasing on fine patterns with some IMAX movies so I have turned it down to -1 for sharpening, even though in general, the 0 mode looks great for most content.

My Sony's noise reduction is pretty good, but with the LG, you may find it better to do +1 on the UB9000 and to decrease it on the LG.

LG is a little trickier because its dynamic tonemapping is adjustable/toggable, and I don't know which combo of HDR Optimizer and DTM settings work best for LG. There's an active thread on blu-ray.com forums and it seems like there are several LG users in that Panasonic UB820/9000 thread.

If you do use the HDR Optimizer, keep it on the OLED setting. Most UHD's are mastered in 1000 nit peak anyway, so you won't need it or notice it unless yuo are watching a movie with higher peaks than 1,000 nits. It's also best to tweak while the movie is playing sometimes, instead of pausing.

You can just toggle the optimizer on and off repeatedly on challenging scenes. Personally, with my A9G, right now I don't use the Optimizer and like having the TV handle everything itself.

Sony XBR-77A9G / Panasonic DP-UB9000 / Marantz SR7011 / SVS PB-4000 / Def Tech 9060 Series

I'm having an intermittent issue with my player powering off by itself around the 15-30 minute mark of whatever movie I'm watching. Are there any known issues with this?

Is it happening while playing or do you have it paused? The unit does power off with no activity after 15-20 mins so if you have it paused that’s probably why.

If it’s happening while playing it could be another device like a streaming device going into standby and turning off the Panasonic by CEC. This happens a lot with Apple TVs

This is happening while I'm actively watching a movie.

I don't think it's CEC since I'm running my devices through a receiver. The only other streaming device I'm using is a Nvidia Shield. I guess I can try to turn off the Shield's auto-standby to see if that could be the case.

It can and usually does happen while running through a receiver since it’s all part of the HDMI chain so you shouldnt rule it out
