The only situation where I need to still flip the switch is when playing back 3D movies (DV=on disables 3D playback).
Greetings priitv8,
Would you know if this unique "feature" is retained in the x800m2?
Like to get one for HLG playback.
Many thanks and best regards,

Page 22 of the User Guide suggests, that the Dolby Vision switch is exactly the same as on X700.

Under Pictures and Audio Features for the 800m2, what does this mean under Picture Feature?

"HDR to SDR conversion"

"Dolby Vision switch is exactly the same as on X700."

If so it's dead in the water before its released.

"HDR to SDR conversion"
It will convert UHD HDR movie to SDR for your non-hdr display or projector.

oh....
I was thinking maybe this was some way to not be forced to watch Dolby Vision if you didn't like the way it looked or something. Didn't know HDR material had to be converted down if being watched on a non-hdr display

Thats great, now maybe ya'll can stop repeating yourselves and move to another thread then? People act like the X700 hasn't been selling well, when it has.

How about we all reserve our final judgment until the player is actually release? Just a thought.

Yes. HDR works similarly to Log-gamma used on pro video cameras.
Without correction, the image will look flat and washed out on SDR display.
The same option on UBP will allow you to set three different gamma levels; "A picture is more similar to HDR when larger value is selected, but lowers overall brightness."

HDR10+ coming at some point?

I agree with you at least for me. I have the original 800 and I was hoping to upgrade to this with Dolby Vision but this is pretty lame. Looks like I will have to pony up some more money and buy a Panny 820.

What is Sony’s rep on meeting release dates? I’m interested in buying this player and want to have realistic expectations.

Ok thanks!

The S350 soundbar (Sony) was supposed to be released late April and as of now has not released yet...this is why I was asking about their usual protocol.

Abt is factory authorized and they are good to deal with. Have done several orders with them without issue.

Good to know, thank you. But is it odd that they seem to be the only ones who are offering this new model?

Not really. They do tend to be a fairly big Sony dealer so not out of the ordinary. Value Electronics (forum sponsor) I believe is also taking pre-orders.

Edit: And so is Crutchfield...

Abt is a huge store in the Chicago Suburbs (with free cookies on the weekends!), so it's possible they are getting an early shipment. However, they may quote the 7-14 day window when they don't actually know when they will be in. They recently did this with the 2019 LG OLEDs.

In fact, just pre-ordered from Crutchfield since I had some bonus points with them. Been planning on getting this for my living room set up anyway.

It is rather odd that new firmware is already posted to the website with the player not even in the wild yet (but maybe that firmware is the reason for delay on announcing release date).

Went ahead and ordered one from VE, because they say "shipping now". I love these for streaming Netflix and Amazon, still use my X800 as a streamer. One of the few devices that can output 24hz streaming without "quirks".
