It was reported over at the bluray forums by a professional calibrator that tested this player that it does auto DV. He confirmed the X700 and the X800m2 are manual toggle, the new X1100es does auto detection.

Sony is still not officially on board with HDR10+, but word is that it will be added to a future firmware latter this year.

It is going to be a cold day in Hades before any Sony product supports HDR10+ seeing as how it was invented by Samsung and DV is available and appears as to viable alternative if not the winner. Remember how long it took for Sony to support MP3 natively versus ATRAC?

Current system:
Sony 75X900e/Sony STR-DN-1080, CS-3/CS-8/CS5

Mixed signals.

Quote:
One annoying aspect of the player's setup is that for Dolby Vision playback you have to turn that feature on in the menu. However in doing so the player will output HDR10 and Dolby Vision content as Dolby Vision. That is far from ideal, because HDR10 content should be displayed as it was created, and not converted into Dolby Vision. The only way around this problem is to leave the Dolby Vision setting off so that HDR10 is output as HDR10, and then manually turn on Dolby Vision when playing a Dolby Vision disc.

That seems rather odd since the X800m2 and the X1100ES are essentially the same.
I mean every player out there except sony will automatically switch between HDr10 and DV. Even my low end Philips DV player does it. That seems like an extremely odd feature for Sony to only have on their top end model.

I guess it's all about the licenses, and who jumped first to the new formats...

It's no reason else why Sony is shut out from certain functions.

Don't judge Sony so hard, same as rating why NAD was late with HDMI.

If they could they would...

Of course Sony knows how to do this, but the licenses is so expensive...

It's the same thing about Wich flatscrees that got DV, and all the others that didn't..

BTW Sony 1100 has falled in price.. Down to 500-600 last I checked.

So according to this review, the X100ES still doesn't output DD+ from Netflix. For years now SOny has continued to only output DD from Netflix. WHile outputting DD+ from other apps. Another weird implementation, like manual Dolby Vision switching, that does not occur on other players.

Didn't bother me.

So I don't see the big deal, if it can be adjusted by the remote/settings.

The issue is that you must research each disc before you drop it in the player, and go into the setup menu and make an adjustment prior to starting playback.

If you have DV on in the player when the disc does not have DV, the colors can be inaccurate + blown out. If you leave DV off, then you are missing out on the DV enhancement for content which supports it.

If this isn't a bother for you, and nobody else ever uses your equipment, then it may not be a big deal. But there are other players that work better (Panasonic 820 x2 here!).

What a cluster___. Vincent Teoh blisters Sony in his video review for X1100ES' manual DV switching, and over at bluray forums the aforementioned professional calibrator says he was given a beta firmware that enabled him to auto switch DV on the X1100ES.

They don't do reviews with beta firmware. And I'm guessing the review was before he received the beta firmware. Otherwise I would think he would have mentioned it in the review.

Ordered one. Now, I wish Netflix would offer 4K rentals!

It’s possible Sony will make firmware updates, so hopefully there won’t be an issue here. They’ve taken their time for a new ES player. Personally, I’d only use this unit for the discs, usability is superior on AppleTV and others for browsing content like Netflix anyway.

Two people. Vincent Teoh (non-beta firmware). Professional calibrator at Bluray forums (beta firmware). See above post for the latter's link.

Is it arrogance or stupidity? The electronics industry can't survive too many more hits. Oh yes they can.

Thanks for the link.

This "beta firmware" story is so confusing and this "sapiendut" guy is a joke.

Is this unit supposed to have rack ears? In the first one I got from the distributor, I didn't notice any included despite the 1000 specs saying they're included and a review. It's possible the sides come off in some way to make them work, but I don't know. After figuring this out, I think my buyers will like these.

Yes I saw the text you pointed out on Sony page, but then looking online no dealer is mentioning that at all. As Cortiz pointed out not included in the x1100es owners thread, so Sony marketing blooper.

My X1100ES arrived on July 5. I've watched a few movies on it but, only one with Dolby Vision. The Dolby Vision performance viewed on my LG B7 OLED was outstanding. Unlike my experience with the Sony X800, I haven't experienced any freezing problems with this player. I intend to do an A/B comparison of Sony's 4K upconversion and that of my LG OLED but, have not done so. My expectation is that there won't be much difference.

Stock must be low on these. I ordered mine from Best Buy almost 2 weeks ago. I was supposed to have it last week but they say it's delayed. Can't wait to get it and get rid of the X800.

I hope this doesn't jinx it but, I've watched several movies on my X1100ES and haven't had a single freeze up. My X800 froze the very first time I plugged it in and tried to open the drawer.
