Sony UBP-X1100ES Anticipation Thread

New Sony ES is coming! Looks like the old X100ES but with DV added.

So the ONLY difference between this and the 1000 is added Dolby vision? Any chance sony listened to us and added a bit more memory to the unit so most of us can ditch the stupid thumdrive inserted in the USB. Hope they fixed the disc freezing bug that some people have had with the 1000.

That would be nice but probably not likely. Sony got away from having on board storage for BD-Live years ago.

Pardonnez-moi? What is your objection to the "stupid thumdrive?"
Thanks

It doesnt say the kind of chip they are using for video. Im wondering if this thing can rival the Panasonics, Oppos, and new Pioneers. It looks like it has the audio portion down.

For an ES model at a premium price, the least they can do is add another USB port in the back. I hated it when they removed that 2nd port. I don't like having an USB drive inserted in the front.

I agree, but for music and harddrive it's convenient.

Bud BD live?

Not so much? What is the point with Live anyway?

I don't see the point? Extras and so on?

I think we get enough of the extras on disc.

I too hope Auto DV is on this player. Fingers crossed it is, cause I like Sony 4K blu ray players. I have the X800 and it looks great and I only had one disk that froze but other than that they all played fine. If not, then maybe I would go for the X800M2 cause it would most likely be the same thing in terms of manually switching on DV.

I'd like to know what DAC they use for two channel audio. My use of a player like this would be the two channel out to a headphone amp, HDMI to my Anthem, primarily for music, with the occasional weekend movie.

Supercharged Song Towers, Oppo BDP-203, Anthem MRX-520, LG B6 OLED
Headphone Rig: Oppo BDP-95, Burson Audio Soloist MKII Headphone amp/ Sennheiser HD800S, Sennheiser HD650

So far, drip by drip UBP-X1100ES marketing only reveals this.

Do you also see the chip designation on those?
Tried on YT video, but the heatsink was still on.

The chip is named and numbered on YouTube. Sorry I don't remember where or what it was...

Only thing I remember is that it was a nice chipset. I don't know how well it's implemented but I'm pleased with the one I've got in UHP-H1.

The one in my UHP-H1 is DAC is AKM4452

https://www.akm.com/akm/en/product/d...artno=AK4452VN

Google is my friend.

I don't know what's inside 1000 or 1100

But I think 1000 is able to find on Google.

I found mine in 15 seconds...

Also found this in the link:

High-Resolution Audio takes your listening experience beyond MP3 files and even CD quality – letting you hear every breath, every note and every drumbeat. The player's 32-bit DAC is compatible with native DSD (at up to 11.2 MHz) and LPCM (at up to 192kHz) Hi-Res music files in a range of different formats.

So at least they put a 32 bit dac in. I'd still like to know what dac. 32 bit dacs are a dime a dozen almost now.

Alright! I was thinking about the video processor, not the DAC. That's the biggest chip covered with a heatsink.

I think these are only relevant for the analog stereo RCA output on the UBP itself. If I use HDMI, then I use DAC-s in my AVR and these 2 DACs are not in the playback chain.

Of course, it's the analogue Dac we talk about..

Of course it's only the analog RCAs. I thought I was clear in my earlier post that I would use those for my headphone amp.

The new Sony's is brilliant on Sacd... That is not the Dac but the sound DSD is amazing...

I think it's a DSD chip in there tho, because My Yamaha Dac is not the best today.

But SACD sound is insane good from Sony.

I also listen to SACD-s, but I do not use the UBP for that. I rather play them from a hard disc and for that, I use the same function on AVR directly, not via UBP and HDMI.
I also have to admit, I usually prefer multichannel mixes over the stereo mixes.

I also have some 5.1 mixes from 2L on hardisk. It's nice but not great.

But I prefer the Cd SACDs sound why I don't know...

Must add that I don't have alot of multichannel on Hardisk...

But some, and 2L should sound great...

So tell me how are you or anybody seeing DV? Do you have a 12 bit panel? Oh right nobody does. Besides the active metadata how are you seeing DV?. See I believe Dv is a hoax because DV is 12 bit tech , our tv panels are 10 bit. So what I think were really seeing is HDR 10+ under the Dolby Vision logo. Doesn't the (10) in HDR10 stand for 10 bit? Or can it be something else .I know one thing you can't possibly say your watching true Dolby Vision without a 12 bit panel. If i'm right were getting duped again. If you a, b a movie in HDR10 and Dolby Vision I don't see a difference. Please prove me wrong with real facts, not some propaganda from this site or others that take money from manufacturers to promote this hoax.

I don't have or plan to buy a DV screen, but nobody knows..

The reason is that DV screens is expensive.. and I wait to see what format wins.

I can only point to comments from mods and calibrators that I respect on AVforums.

For TV and projectors DV in theyr opinion is a clear advantage in brightness, contrast, colour and detail compared to 4k and HDR10+.

But that doesn't mean that DV will win...

The trend is that 10+ is most available on screens today....

Maybe they can co exist?

In HD dvd and Bluray Sony was the reason with their PlayStation with bluray who made bluray win the war.

I guess that the streamers is the reason today and Netflix is big on DV now..

Maybe Dolby Vision wins the war?
