Fyi, you can also update via USB. You’ll need to decide what is BEST for YOU. Follow the Sony USB firmware update instructions on the product page. For ME thats how I recently did both my TV and UHD player. I plan to do all future firmware updates this way. I made the decision to not connect the new for ME Sony 85X850G TV and 800M2 to the internet at all.
Just to add to Sonys USB firmware update instructions. make sure you delete ALL files on the USB drive. Then run a FULL format Fat32 on the USB drive. (uncheck quick format on Windows os.) once you download and extract the zip files from Sony. Copy the UPDATE folder with ALL the files contained within the update folder to your newly FULL formatted USB drive.
I also recommend powering the player from a complete fresh startup initially before performing any firmware updates. Turn off player. Pull plug, wait 5 minutes. Plug player back in. Power on your TV, set input to player, turn player on, once the gui displays. Plug USB drive in and it will automatically recognize the UPDATE folder and display on TV asking if you want to update. Click OK. Once update completes and does its final reboot. I like to perform an additional fresh startup as I described above.
