The main reason I tried the Sony was the supposedly silent drive. While it was slightly quieter than the LG, it wasn't $XX (no price talk) quieter and certainly wasn't silent.

If it means anything, the manufacturing date of the 800m2 was November 2019.
I have both the X800 and the X800M2 and I've never heard any noises such as you describe. However, my first X800 unit on my main tv had to be exchanged due to random freezing and the unit would sometimes turn on by itself with nothing on the screen. My second X800 used with another tv has always worked fine with no freezing. So it seems to depend on the specific unit just like any other product you buy today. My X800M2 is around four months old and no problems so far. I do leave QuickStart ON, HDMI Control ON and no issues. It is used every day for at least two hours but I do not stream so I can't comment on that.

You're right, it's YouTube. But I'll have to try it just to see about the sound issue one day.

Please see my post above (753) but I think you mean the X800 as the M2 version was available around May, 2019 which is not even a year. The original X800 had some issues depending on the specific unit as the one I still have with the older build date works fine where the newer one had to be returned/exchanged for an M2 under an extended warranty.

BD-R won’t play

My x800m2 won’t play any of my own recorded BD-R discs. Yes they are clean. Yes they are finalised. They play fine on my Panasonic Blu-ray burner/player and also on my PC. Why not on the Sony?

Mine were made on my Panasonic Blu-ray recorder. My local AV shop has tested one of my disks and it works fine in everything except Sony 700, 800 or 800m2. A Sony problem then! Any chance of a Sony firmware update to address this?

What brand are you using? I have recorded many BD-R's using my Mac computer with an LG burner with no issues playing on both my Sony 800 and 800M2 models. But I've only used Verbatim 25gb discs so far.

EDIT: One other thing that comes to mind: what country are you in? I thought Panasonic recorders are not available in the U.S. if it's a consumer grade machine. You might have a region code issue then although I thought blurays don't have the same problem as regular dvd's.

Here is a link I found regarding DR mode and compatibility. Not sure if it applies to your situation:

I would check your manual about any compatibility issues compared to other players. It reminds me of the support for DVD-RAM which many players couldn't recognize but Panasonic's could as they had developed the format as I recall.

Also, I'm in the U.S.

Blu-ray region coding requires Java programming. I would find it strange if a recorder would be able to do that.

Wow! This version really addresses TrueHD playback from MKV files!
Just halfway theough.
Now it won’t complain about audio format not supported, but recognises it as MLP 7.1 audio.
Unfortunately, this will be output as PCM 7.1 and drops Atmos, naturally.
PS also the X1100ES got this update - M46.R.0052

thanks for the heads up. my 800m2 has been stable in my usage over the 2 months of ownership so i think i'll wait to hear a little more feedback here before proceeding. (in fact, i will need to plug mine back into the network as i have all network services turned off and i unplugged the ethernet cable and don't have it hooked up via wifi)

Just installed the new firmware

Results...rebooted with FAILED wired status, previously only used wired, needed to connect via wireless.

NetFlix still goes to black every time you hover over a different selction.

So basically, the firmware broke my LAN and didn't fix the main issue with the apps, which is the only improvement promissed in the firmware details. Thanks Sony.

I can’t say as I’ve never used Netflix on it and I’ve currently temporarily canceled my Netflix service. Have you tried doing a factory reset on it?

Will probably do that at some point in the future, seems to be working fine on WiFi...my router sits on top of the X800M2 :-)

Fyi, you can also update via USB. You’ll need to decide what is BEST for YOU. Follow the Sony USB firmware update instructions on the product page. For ME thats how I recently did both my TV and UHD player. I plan to do all future firmware updates this way. I made the decision to not connect the new for ME Sony 85X850G TV and 800M2 to the internet at all.

Just to add to Sonys USB firmware update instructions. make sure you delete ALL files on the USB drive. Then run a FULL format Fat32 on the USB drive. (uncheck quick format on Windows os.) once you download and extract the zip files from Sony. Copy the UPDATE folder with ALL the files contained within the update folder to your newly FULL formatted USB drive.

I also recommend powering the player from a complete fresh startup initially before performing any firmware updates. Turn off player. Pull plug, wait 5 minutes. Plug player back in. Power on your TV, set input to player, turn player on, once the gui displays. Plug USB drive in and it will automatically recognize the UPDATE folder and display on TV asking if you want to update. Click OK. Once update completes and does its final reboot. I like to perform an additional fresh startup as I described above.

Good luck.

Quick question... Just picked a x800M2 up last night. So far all's going well. However, I noticed when trying to stream Spotify to my AVR mounted Chromecast, when selecting device on the phone, the x800M2 showed up in the listing for "Spotify Connect". I was surprised as I know the only built-in apps are Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube. However, every time I tried to connect, it just timed out. Anyone else noticed this and have any suggestions on how to get a successful connection. Sure would be nice to get rid of the Chromecast which is really flaky. TIA!

I was asked to try and update the player via USB. Does a lead balloon mean anything? Yep, it did not work. The player said that the file was corrupted. I even tried formatting the Kingston 32GB drive. It was already Fat32. I unzipped the files directly to the device. I can see the files on the computer, but the player refuses them. So much for updating via that method.

Hello everyone!

New owner of the player and I already have 2 major issues:

1. The player freezes for 5-6 seconds on almost all my UHD discs and always on a specific scene. For example, while watching 2001 Space Odyssey, it always freezes on chapter 14 (57 min). My discs are brand new with no scratches.

2. I get severe audio drops on Dolby Atmos in UHD discs. The player is connected directly to my TV with a 18 gbps HDMI cable. Am I doing sth wrong or is it sth in the settings?

Thank you!

Is the HDMI cable a “PREMIUM CERTIFIED HDMI cable?”.

Did you try to turn off the player, then unplug from wall outlet power, wait 5 minutes. Plug back in and power player on. Does the movie now play without concerns?.

Just updated via Wi-Fi, took less than 5 minutes and went flawlessly.

So much media, so little time...

Well, the unplugging would make sense in case of a total freeze, right? I'm dealing with 5-6 secs freezing issues and then the player skips some scenes and keeps on playing. Only the freezing doesn't happen randomly but on specific scenes instead, usually once on every movie.
Honestly I would ask for another disc, but it's happening on 3-4 brand new discs so I'm thinking it's the player.

As for my HDMI cable, yes it's supposed to be a Premium one, it says on the box and everything. Is there an official list somewhere?
