GIEC 杰科 BDP-G5300 4K UHD Player - Budget OPPO Successor

GIEC 杰科 BDP-G5300 4K UHD Player

This is a great budget friendly basic all-in-one combo player. While lacking the sophisticated tone mapping features of OPPO and Panasonic, it offers full feature file playback functionality, something that the Sony is not capable of.

Good:
DV, HDR10+ (but no HLG?)
Gigabit Lan
USB3.0
ISO playback
SACD,DVD-A

Bad:
No analogue audio out
Non Android OS

I don't see any DVD-A or SACD logos on the player. It looks like a $35 dollar very cheap player. Fixed power cable . The term "budget Oppo" is an oxymoron IMO. There was nothing "budget" about any Oppo players. Total junk by the looks of the pictures.

Bill

My SACD collection and HRAudio.net Library, getting larger as my wallet gets smaller ;-).

With no analog audio outs, it's not exactly an Oppo successor!

Have to agree with @Bill Mac , nothing is quite like the build of my Oppo, as I still use it, and may never get rid of it. I did get the Panny 820 for it's tone mapping as I have a JVC projector, but maybe not a successor, but a 3rd string substitute. Thanks for the info, and would like to read reviews, if someone were to get their hands on one.

The MTK chipset allows for ISO image playback apparently. 越狱 is the chinese term used, and the procedure is described in the link below.

While this is great for backup of disc to be stored on file servers, it is not clear if one has full access to the disc menu, of if the decrypted file structure can be read. Appreciate if anyone familiar with the Oppo can advise. Thanks,

Personally.... I'm not a fan of media playback devices that run the Android OS. Indeed I refuse to beta test media players that do!

Greetings jwort93.
Found this dumped on the door step this morning. An early moon cake festival surprise?
Will be checking which features are supported/unsupported, especially those found on the OPPO. Any input from oppo/lx500/m9702 users appreciated.

Q1: Can the G5300 do a Sony?
A: YES.

There's a unique feature in a Sony, somewhat under appreciated imo, manual DV control. Turning on the DV switch when playing a 709/SDR video content will engage the display's WCG filter. The transformation can be spectacular at times, such as the LOA. However, this feature does not work for the mkv container. What a shame.

Well, the combination of HDR/DV on the G5300 has the same effect. And it works for mkv. So there's no longer any need to remux mkv to mp4.

Good job, GIEC 杰科.

Q2:Does G5300 support multi-region?
A: YES.

While not technically a region free player, the G5300 allows for multi-region setting. An absolutely essential feature for the international collector.

The x800m2 is no longer needed.
