Well guys I have tried about half a dozen recommended methods to convert my locked 420 B Blu ray zone to A and.....no luck!!
Am sure they work for some so you loose nothing by trying.
It may be my 420 is especially adapted for Australia or a brand new batch off the assembly line with tightened specification but still looking for an answer.
Still very happy with the 420 and knew it was zoned locked when bought so can't and won't grumble.

Are people still happy with this unit? Ned 4K but don't need dolbyvision. Don't want too much noise.

I'm thrilled with mine!

This is the second UHD BD player and my first was Sony X700 which I actually purchased twice. The first time I bought it it wouldn't play anything without locking up repeatedly so I returned it. A FW update came to "improve HDMI connectivity issues" so I gave it another chance. It was much better but still occasionally locked up which I believe was due to overheating even though it's in a very open and cool area. This happened 4 times but 3 of the 4 were when I had visitors and I was showing off the HT.... this wasn't ok.

The Panasonic hasn't locked up ever. I'm a big fan of the fact this player has a fan. For some that means it's noisy but for me I've never heard it. I keep my source devices and AVR outside of the theater. The Projector, speakers and screen are inside the theater naturally.

Moving from the X700 to the UB420 I discovered the HDR Optimizer and being a native 4K projector early adopter this HDR optimizer function is something I consider to be a must have.

I just picked one up from Best Buy after having an LG UBMK9 (Wally World version). I made sure to dig through the ones that they had to find the newest one (I think) by looking at the ship date on the tag. Plugged it into my cheapie Benq HT2550 and with the HDR Optimizer it's like a whole new projector. I didn't notice a whole lot more noise compared to my LG and I've got my fingers crossed that it holds up well but I'm not too concerned as I don't use it for streaming, just strictly disc playback. As I continue to figure out and tweak the settings with the optimizer I'm sure it'll even be better.

What type of improvement would the HDR optimizer make with my Sony VW350 projector which does 4k but not HDR?Currently use a UB900.

You can have it do 4K SDR/BT2020. It re works HDR into SDR space and it's very very very useful for projectors and low spec (early) direct view 4K sets.

Even though my VW285 supports HDR that just means there is a gamma curve for it but one size doesn't really fit all in todays HDR content. Having the player re map to SDR seems to help a lot.

I'm still learning about mine... I did a calibration but my BT2020 readings seemed off... I have to learn more about it.

Brian, I also have a theater where the component rack is a distance from the projector. The company that did my install in 2012 is out of business. (I did score their Cinecurve Stewart screen though.) How are you handling the 4K signal to the projector? Do you run HDMI2 to the AVR, and then use HDMI extenders (or balans) across CAT6 wiring to the projector?

I'll need to figure this out if I can on my own.

I only use HDMI out 1 to my AVR with a 4 foot premium certified cable then a 25 foot fiber optic cable to the projector.

This way I can also switch to ATV4K which run through the projector.

I have use the 2 HDMI outputs of my old Sony X700 before, .. when I setup my gear at a remote location for a church movie.

So you have both the ATV and the UHD Bluray going into HDMI2.0 inputs on your AVR, then fiberoptic from HDMI out on the AVR to the projector?

I guess I need to find out if my CAT6 run can handle the signal or if i need to get fiber.

A couple of quick questions...………………..

1...My display is a Sammy KS9800, capable of close to 1,500 nits. Should I use Middle/High Luminance or Super High for the optimizer or neither and just leave the optimizer off?

2...What should "High Clarity Sound" be set to? I'm running 2 hdmi outs> 1 to video on KS9800 and 1 to Audio on Sammy K950 Dolby Atmos Soundbar.

Thanks

I'm away from my UB420, but , IIRC, it can be set to output in 720P.
