Anyone use this player as CDs player without turning on the TV?
Should I use an optical cable ? Or how....?

So, is there any reason other than Dolby Vision to step up to the 820? I have an older 1080 projector and don't need DV so wondering if the 420 would be just fine for me.

I'm thinking it may be at the point where perhaps it's a layer change and the player is getting hung up. I also watched a few regular Blu-rays and have had zero problems. Should I return the 420 for another unit or perhaps upgrade to the 820? Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Ive had the same issue with my ub400. ive watched endgame flawlessly, and then had it hang up in the same spot on the fight scene near the end. wondered if it was a buffering issue.

Hey guys... I was wondering...whats with the downmix setting. Out of the box it's on stereo but there is an option for surround encoded. I have the player going through a sony dn1080 AV receiver and I'm doing 5.1. Should I leave it on stereo? Or change it to surround encoded. Also I have a new Samsung Q90T tv... Should the hdr tv type on the player be set to middle or high luminance lcd or the super high luminance lcd?

I have mine set to “Surround Encoded” and “Super High Luminance”. I have a 2020 Frame which is likely not as bright as your 90T. I couldn’t tell the difference between the two settings and figure I’d start with the setting for the highest spec TV and retest after I got familiar with the 4K discs I have.

I am loving the picture on this connected to my JVC X570R.

However, I've had issues with some Blu-Rays. Notably Skyfall and Guardians of the Galaxy. Both 1080p. Skyfall just stops midway through the movie (layer change?), almost like there's a scratch on the disc. But the disc is PERFECT.

Guardians had some moments where it seemed like a scratch, but it wouldn't stop completely like Skyfall. It would skip ahead a bit and keep working. This happened twice, once halfway through, once about 3/4 through. That disc worked perfectly on my Xbox.

Do I have a bad unit?

One thing I will say is I haven't initiated a firmware update yet, not sure if that would help.

Sounds like a bad disc. My Blu-ray of World Trade Center looks perfect but won't play at all (in any player).

I've had the exact same problem last week, on the same movie, but on the XBOX ONE X.

As I type this, I'm 2nd guessing myself on whether it could have been Aliens (I went on an Alien movie run and watched 1-3 within a week of each other. I have ALIEN on 4k, but the rest I played from my 1080p BD boxset). Another movie glitched HARD and didn't revert without rebooting the xbox.

I've definitely noticed an uptick in apparent layer change glitches, and random frame stutters... I wonder if there's been some almost-universal firmware update that's messed a bunch of machines up... or if it's just a coincidence, and both our machines are dying.

Since I returned the UB420 and purchased another I have had zero issues. The issue in my case was the player and not the physical disk.
