Has anyone played 5.1 96K 24 bit music flac files on the 420 (and I DO mean "music files" not movie soundtracks).
eg like AIX, 2L, Tacet DVD audio

And just generally, playing flac files (of ordinary CD rips) over a network system?

I had both an 820 and oppo 203 when ChadB calibrated my RS600. He did such a good job that I couldn't justify keeping the 820 since the oppo plays mkvs with full hi def audio and the Panasonic does not. I returned the 820 and decided to wait for the next iteration of uhd bluray player to come out.

At $250 with the same video abilities as the 820 and 9000 I am going to give the Panasonic another go in my theater.

If any user would be so kind as to briefly go over settings to use (optimizer on or off - HDR/SDR low calibration - SDR2020 calibration etc.) I would appreciate a quick primer. The search function on AVS isn't the greatest IMO.
I had my JVC X790 calibrated by Chad B and HDR is virtually perfect. I have no issues with image brightness and HDR pop is excellent. Will the Panasonic HDR optimizer improve image quality any further?

That is what I am actually trying to figure out at the moment. Straight out of the box yeah, but with the video adjustments available with the OPPO203 I can configure the image so so close to what the Panasonic produces. The Panasonic is definitely more set and forget it.

The one thing that convinced me to keep the 420 is the quality of the 4k upscaled image of regular old bluray. I'm sure Chad gave you a great SDR709 calibration while he was there. He was able to make a perfect SDR709 calibration for me while the HDR, while very good, was badly skewed (he couldn't tweek it out). The unconverted bluray image looks incredible.

I still haven't spent any/much time really with the HDR optimizer of the 420 yet. I'm pretty confident it will look better after I have spent some time with it.

Can anyone confirm if the UB420 can play MKV videos from a USB drive in slow motion and with frame advance (watching frame by frame, per tap on the remote)? Thanks.

My one month out of warranty Sony X800 4K player just crapped out. It's my second Sony BR player to fail within 2 yrs (yes-"fool me once...") so I'll be replacing it with the Panasonic UB420. Wish it had been available when I selected the Sony.

JVC RS600 Chad-callibrated, 120" 1.3g in Batcave HT, Denon X8500 Polk LSiM703 fronts,
RTi-12 rears, LSiM 706 center, Monitor 40 Heights, Monitor 60 FW, FXiA4 Bi-pole sides,
LSiC CH, Infinity 6" VOG. 4X 12" subs w/mini DSP on sub 1 and nearfield 18" from sub 2.

Have 130+ 4K movies, finally got the UB420. Excellent HDR to SDR conversion looks great on my Epson 5030UB projector. I'll upgrade to a 4K projector when a good lazer-based PJ with excellent black levels is released for about CA$5000. Hoping the JVC LX-NZ3 surprises me, but then again it's DLP.

Oh, and yes, the UB420 will do SDR/BT.2020 per the settings menu.

I have a number of 4K discs now and am looking at the 420, but I can't seem to determine if the HDR optimizer will work when downsampling UHD to HD for my 1080p projector, as I do not yet have a 4K-capable projector or display. If it does provide the tone mapping for 4k downsampled to 1080p SDR rec.709 it's a no-brainer. If it doesn't then any cheap UHD player is going to provide the same quality at this point. Anyone?

The HDR optimizer can be turned On and Off when downsampling UHD to HD 1080p. I typically leave the HDR Optimizer off, what the player already does looks great to me.

The ability to output HDR as SDR BT.2020 with extensive sub-controls is also highly satisfactory to those users who prefer this iteration of BT.2020.
Hello, i have a JVC RS400 can you briefly explain the BT.2020, HDR as SDR

I have curves loaded and would like to take a look at this

Thank you

As of Feb 20th still looking for a Marantz SR7010

When using the internal streaming apps I find that Amazon Prime plays fine to my HD projector but Netflix only plays audio, not the video. When I play Netflix to my 4K capable JVC the video plays fine. I have the video out set to Auto. Is there another setting that is causing this blankingof the Netflix video at the HD level?

By the way, the apps are ten times faster on the handshake than my Roku Ultra. I believe it is because the Roku is going back and forth between resolution differences between the video offering menus that are HD and the actual content that is 4K. Somehow Panasonic has skirted that issue.

Not sure if it's just me but the audio that plays when you are in the menus is very annoying, I have read through the manual but can't seem to find if that audio can be disabled because I don't need to hear audio everytime I press a button and what is highlighted. Anybody find the setting for this?
