Do you mean the BDP-94HD does not have Firewire or the upcoming BDP-LX90 does not have Firewire?

can anyone say which is the internal drive used by 94HD ? and which is the one used by HD1? Is it true the 94HD cannot play BD-R discs? Has anyone tested? Thanks

It's the new Pio $299 drive; I believe the model # is BDC-2202 (please someone correct me if I'm wrong). This was one of the reasons they could cut the MSRP from the HD1 which had the re-writer drive in it.

Can't confirm on the BD-R discs, but if this is truly the drive, the press announcement from Pio says it can in a PC.

Joe,

Thanks very much for starting this thread and posting objective comments. I will check out the 94 as a second unit.

So Tolstoi, you must also have a 94 considering you have posted in this thread, eh???

Availability
The BDP-LX70 will be commercially available in June. In the near future, Pioneer is planning to introduce a HD Audio Bitstream output player to replace this model.

It seems the European market is planning a replacement model to be released in the fall with HDMI 1.3 versus the HDMI 1.2a on the current model. As it states it looks like the intent here is bitstream audio output of True HD, DTS-HD. I can't imagine Pioneer Elite in the U.S. would offer another player until the BD-J spec is finalized which won't be until Oct. 31st. So getting those specs in Nov. I can't Imagine a player on the market till Feb. 2008 at the earliest. Maybe Chris walker could chime in on this one.

It's a fun game only because it's hard. I haven't quite mastered it yet... ^_^ (shot 40 at the par 3 course)

The FedEx truck just drove by without stopping. *sinks in chair* - maybe tomorrow.

Tom, if you ordered your player from me, give me a call and we will track it for you.

Glad everyone is receiving the movies we promised you, if anyone did not get a set let me know.

Lastly, I sold through my supply of BDP-94 but......

Good news! I have a few units showing up this weekend, and a much larger shipment very shortly after that.

If anyone still needs the beautiful and amazing BDP-94 please let us know!

I also got the GhostRider & Superman yesterday... The first questions/comments out of the g/f went something like this.....

g/f: "What are those?"
Me: "Bluray movies"
g/f: "Oh..they are all action movies, couldn't you get anything better"
Me: "They were free, they came with the player"
g/f: "Didn't you have any other choices?"
Me: "uh...NO" as she sits down to watch POTC

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but after reading the earlier part of this thread I am intrigue and curious to find out more about the media player capabilities of this player. Can someone please direct me to where I can get the details on it?

Thank you,

Eric

Picked up a BDP-94HD at my local Besy Buy for a great price (Same as the BDP-1200 from Sammy). I have had the Panasonic 10A, Sony S300 and now the 94HD. The menu system is exactly the same as the S300, which makes me believe one is making the others players (Pioneer for Sony?). Setup was very easy. I wish they would include test tones for the 5.1 analog outs (my XA2 does this)

Hooked up via HDMI into a Samsung HL-T7288. Receiver is a Denon 5805MKII via Analog. Picture and audio from Bridge to Terabythia was superb. Notible audio difference over the Sony. Did not compare to the Panasonic 10A. Haven;t tried Ghost Rider's THD track yet, but hopefully tomorrow night I can preview.

Video quality was a wash with the Sony. However, something was different with the Panasonic. It wasn;t bad, just different. I prefer the 94HD over both.

If it were 1500.00 I don't think I would have jumped on this player. But for 799.00 with 2 free flicks (which BB gave me since they were not in the box) I took the plunge and am glad I did.

Haven't gotten into the home media capabilities yet. Hopefully more over the next week or so.

If this unit had HDMI 1.3 this would have been the cats meow. However, besides the PS3 this is quite a full featured player for the $$$.

I took apart the S300 and the 94HD chassis. Both are identical, which confirms Pioneer is making these for Sony (which we already knew). Down to the SI chip SiI9030-7 and the SMP8634LF chip, these 2 units are the same.

So the question is do I pay twich as much for an ethernet port and internal THD processing now? Since many movies are using LPCM uncompressed, I am staying with the Sony S300 and will look at alternatives once HDMI 1.3 and the siI9134 chips roll out this fall/winter.

Again, from a Pioneer standpoint, there are zero video and audio capabilities differences between the 2 units. They are the same units!

This is good to know, I hadn't realize the BDP-94HD was shipping, so today I have been searching the net for one (called Pioneer store, they are official out)
Since I have a large party next weekend, and may of the guys are just getting into home theater. I'd like to get my Hi-Def DVD up and running...it looks like I may buy the Sony.
Thanks

If the S-300 is the same as the pioneer 94HD why would I buy the Pioneer? I have had the S-300 in my system and like the Sony S1 better. The picture quality is very good but the audio is not good. If the Pioneer has better audio I still might go for it. However $500 price difference may make me go for the sony S1.

You wouldn't, that's my point. If you want a $500.00 ethernet port and limitied home networking capabilities (which I don't), then the 94HD is it. If you want to play BR movies, then save the $$$ and look for the 3rd gen Profile 1.1/2.0 players to be released in late 2007.

When you say that they are exacty the same do you mean they share the same chipset or that they have the same power supplies ect. As I said before the picture I have seen on the
S300 was very good but the audio was poor. Better power supplies ect. might make the 94HD sound better?

I coud not tell the difference between the two, except forr the 94HD supported THD in their 2.0 firmware. Comparing apples to apples, audio for LPCM was the same in my ears.

The power supplies are different. What I am referring to is tyhe chipsets that are respoonsible for video processing and audio dsp.

So I would say they have very similar architectures and maybe even similar build quality. They may have nearly identical video ans audio, which it would be good if we get a rating from Secrets, but they are not the same. I think you are saying one has a better value. That is subjective but defensible.

I am assuming since you took apart both that you own both now.

Yes, power supply and chassis fabrication. The 94HD is taller than the S300. Plus, the feet add at least 1-2lbs to that number

I hate to admit it but I currently have an S-300, S1 and a 94HD at my house ( I have a lot of returning to do). The 94HD is much more like the S1 than the S300. The build quality is very good ( much heavier than the S-300 and more like the S1). As far as picture quality goes better eyes than mine might tell the difference but they all look great. The big difference is in the audio! The Pioneer flat out sounds better than the other two. The S1 is OK but the S-300 is poor. The Pioneer has a far better soundstage and a lot more bass. If you are not using a quality audio system go for the S-300 but if you do you will be disapointed with it.
