Anyway when I mentioned the new Blu-ray display he told me that the company had been trialling both the high-def dvd formats in their flagships stores. They found that sales for both HD-DVD and Blu-ray had been virtually non-existent, however since the PlayStation 3 release, Blu-ray movie sales have seen a modest but steady increase, and they are now rolling out Blu-ray movies across all their medium to large stores. The company believe this market will increase as the proliferation of HDTV across the UK becomes more widespread over Christmas. However they will be dropping HD-DVD lines completely.

The above two posts I don't even understand.

Anyway, it reinforces what we know - Europe is in Blu-ray's hands.

When people read things they dont like they respond with bad jokes to try and derail the fact that they cant argue against it with useful info.

I remember from the 70's

My mom works for Sony, and she brought home a copy of "Starhawk BETA"
I quickly slipped it into my trusty PS3, and started playing.

I like it... I just think it is such a huge reach to think it has any impotance. Strictly monkeyshines.. The pun is on the OP forum name and his endless fanboyism. Surely this is the biggest BD marketing coup of the summer!

Of course not, but it's reflective of what's going on overseas. When we start hearing about retailers, no matter how big or small, going HD DVD exclusive, I'm *sure* it will be considered news. But, thus far no indications of that...

(I also think people in this thread are Americans who think of the US branch of Woolworths rather than the UK branch)

I support Blu-Ray just as much as I support HD-DVD, however these posts are really irrelevant but yet they get treated like a 11th commandant has been passed down by God declaring Blu-Ray the victor..

I find them funny, that's all.

Not God... Darwin...

Survival of the Fittest, and HD DVD appears to be the loser.

Heck yes - is there another? If there were any more Woolie's open over here, it would be big news. Their big advertising/marketing gimmick was that nothing in the store was over 5 cents. For that price, I'd even buy BD versions of Ultraviolet and Scooby Doo. (already the proud owner of Eragon. )

Brian is referring to the Woolworths chain in the UK, a now-distinct entity which bears little resemblance to the stores we knew in the US. Woolworths does $5.6B in annual revenues and has 818 stores.

This is a rumor, a "he said she said" story.
Post an official press release, not some BD fanboy's interpretation of something a friend that works at Woolsworth told him.

Someone told a friend of mine that Fox is adding HD DVDs to their lineup, I am sure you believe this as well.

Question is, who will be here when the fight is over? Woolworths with Blu-Ray on the shelfs, or HD-DVD.

"Ha, i remember HD-DVD back from 2007, i got a bunch at a discount price when they finally backed out"

Anyway, excellent post!

Love!
