After I do some extensive playtime with the 1400 I will post some observations... Hopefully in the next couple of days...

Joerod, I'd like to read about your results as well. It'd be interesting to compare our findings. In the meantime, I'd like to share more of my own experiences with the player so far. I've also added a few quick pics of the player and accessories. Below is a brief list of some player tidbits.

Unit is fairly light (built more like an A20 than an XA2)
Made in China
Flimsy tray
A tad noisy during loading. Laser pickup makes high pitch sound. Nothing significant.
Extremely quiet during playback. I couldn't hear the fan at all, even up close.
Still has problems with some discs at menu screen. Might be a java issue. Takes you to menu screen, but doesn't let you highlight any options.
Player speed:
From off to tray eject - 20 sec
Avg load time until picture appears on screen - 20-25 sec
Still very slow for the POTC movies - 60 + sec to load
Scan speeds and chapter skipping is still a bit sluggish. Comparable to the Sony S300. Not nearly as fast or smooth as the PS3.
Will resume playback if stopped, but will reload and start over if ejected from the player.
Leaving the audio output at bitstream will allow for DTS and DD decoding through the receiver and will automatically switch to PCM uncompressed audio when selected on the disc.
Still no bitstream passthrough for TruHD or DTS-MA decoding yet, if ever.

Greetings,

Don't hold your breath. Samsung has stated that they do not release upgrades to provide upgrades but only to provide fixes. Unless it is previously stated that the 1400 will be upgraded to decode DTS-HD MA then it more than likely won't be.

I have the 1200 and love it's picture quality. It does have some issues that should have been addressed by now but haven't. I look forward to seeing what the 2400 looks like.

Does the 1400 allow you to pillar-box 4:3 SD-DVD material?
Or, does that bug still remain unfixed?

It does not resume. It basically loads up from the beginning as if it was ejected and and put in again, which is very annoying to say the least.

Unfortunately, I will be taking this player back. Even with the discount I got, it doesn't make much sense to keep it as we're only months away from mandatory profile 1.1 machines. I'd still like to see come PQ comparisons with other players as it is stellar in that dept. But I'll be keeping my PS3 until I find a better player to replace it.

I have had it and played many Blu ray titles on it and even compared them to the 94HD Pioneer unit. I will say first off that the picture Q is every bit as good as the Pioneers. Seriously. At least for when it comes to Blu ray discs. Standard dvd playback is not as good as the XA2s but I would have predicted that since the 1400 does not have HQV. Set up on this thing is a breeze. I was trying to send the Dolby TrueHD via bitstream to see if by chance my 905 would show it but no dice! And for some reason the 905 does not want to play the advanced codecs in Ultra2 cinema which is my favorite mode. It does with the Pioneer 94HD ad the XA2. I will have to play around some more and try and figure that one out. Anyway, the load times are pretty quick. Much faster then the three other Blu ray players I own. If one was only wanting this unit for Blu ray discs then there is NOT a better priced player versus Blu ray picture on the market. The sound was also very good even though I have the one hiccup. Most would not even care and would be completely satisfied. I still plan to check out there 2400 unit. I also already pre ordered (don't ask me where) a Denon 3800BDCI. I plan to compare them as well. I know many are worried about the deadline for the new players coming but if you don't care about that and just want straight up Blu ray playtime then this 1400 unit is your answer. When the price drops it will be an even better deal! 1080p/23.98 (24) has never been this cheap and looked this good!

Guys, I have a BDP1000 that doesn't play BDMV, only BDAV, can an owner download this BDMV ISO of Elephant Dreams VC-1 encode, burn the image onto a DVD-R (nero works) and see if it will play? I'm trying to compile a list of players that can play back BDMV content recorded from BD-R/DVD-R.

TIA.

http://www10.sendthisfile.com/d.jsp?...haHR4ilquAq6B0

Note you must use an 8X or faster DVD-R as this 10 minute movie peaks at 50Mbps. So far only the PS3 and panasonic can play this stream. (It is technically out of BD spec and will stress decoder chips). It's almost 1GB so it will take a while to download.

Something I need to post about. I just got around to trying to do the picture adjustments I read about in the 1400 PDF. Not that I would really use them anyhow but I thought I could do some experimenting with them. Anyway, I could not find them. Could samsung have left them out? Does anyone know where they are? I will look again tomorrow but I am seriously doubting they exist. I also plan to do the HQV Blu ray benchmark torture tests on it as well.

Joerod, thanks very much for your comments. I feel much better about this player now and I'll probably buy it next week.

One last thing, how fast does it load the POTC disk? Any problem playing the special features.

Waldo, yes it does. Just tested it with the Palm Beach Story.

Joerod, are you having any issues locking in on the 1080p24 resolution? Mine seems to revert back to 1080i often, either when shutting off or just stopping a disc.

Which is what is so sad. This could cost BR big time. I am neutral have both a 1200 and a xa2. It looks like the xa2 will get the MA audio later this year. Yet Samsung sits on its hands and makes us buy a new player to get it. The 2400 looks like a great player but I cannot say I will buy it since the support is so bad. Lets hope if the xa2 gets the upgrades it gets Samsung moving and rethinking there marketing plan.

My 94HD goes back to 1080i when I am not playing a Blu ray title. Until I hit play it does not start 1080p. Like when you first turn it on. I noticed the 1400 does the same. I did not consider this abnormal since I am used to it with the Pioneer...

Man I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get this player or the BD-P1200 for $400.00 at Sears. The BP-P1400 has TrueHD but I don't have a way of taking advantage of it right now. I'm planning to upgrade my receiver but I don't think it will be this year. On the other hand the 1400's performance may be better in terms of loading disc and handling BD-Java intensive disk like POTC. Also there is more chance of Samsung upgrading the 1400 to profile 1.1 than the 1200 (by the way, I'm not claiming Samsung will so don't start any rumors).

Joerod what do you think?

I like having the pristine video and great sound with the 1400. If and when you decide to get a new receiver then you will want to get a new Blu ray player that does Dolby TrueHD. I say just get it now. The HQV chip is better in the 1200 but by how much? I don't think it is worth sacrificing the newer model with everything... But that is just me!
