Joerod...What is HD MSTR HI RES? How do I get it with my DTC 9.8 and Samsung 1400?

BTW, have you compared the 1400 to the 95...Is Video the same? What are the diff? Is it worth an extra 500.00. I have the 1400 but if their is much of a difference I have no issues with buying the Pioneer.

Thanks,
M1

I am wondering this as well. With the way these players are advancing, it might be better to hold on to that $500 for a player 6-12 months from now and go with the 1400 if performance is close which it should be as far as PQ and AQ.

Mr. Hagg (Pioneer Store) was so kind to sell me one.

The DTS-HD hi res is from the King Of New York's DTS HD soundtrack (I am reviewing) and the DTS-HD MASTER is from the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer soundtrack which states it is DTS-HD MASTER...

As I posted earlier in this thread the 1400 is very close but the 95FD produces a sharper image. I also prefer it for SD dvd upconversion. I also prefer all the other cool features like the resolution button on the remote. It is much nicer being able to change resolutions on the fly then having to hit stop and go into a set up menu. Especially when you are trying to compare them! I have spent awhile this afternoon playing different blu ray discs but tomorrow I will do my comparisons between the XA2 for SD dvd upconversion. I predict the 95FD will be on par with the XA2. We need to find out which chip it is using because it is by far much better than the 94HD and HD1... More to come tomorrow...

My guess is that is has the Sigma 8634 in it just maybe a newer revision of it. But the only way to know for sure is for someone to take one apart or a press release from either Sigma or Pioneer saying what it is.

Have you compared a 5.1 PCM track coming out of the PS3 vs 95? I know there should not be a noticable difference, but if you would not mind doing a comparison I would be curious to know for sure.

It is not surprising that DTS-MA sounds better from the 95 as we are getting the full signal vs only the 1.5 core of the PS3. Cant wait to hear this!

Thanks for the reports all!

Edit: Also any comparisons that could be made (if possible) to the 1400 would be great as far as PQ and AQ in particular.

As far as I can tell, 5.1 PCM Fith Element is indistinguishable on PS3 versus 95FD.

One quick note: at least the 95FD will resume playback after you hit stop.

The BLACK HR20-100 was a limited release version. However, I am being told they will be offering black HD DVRs in the future. I received my BLACK unit because I have a "special" friend who works at DirecTV. She and I shared quite a few moments (before I was married) at an electronics show a couple of years ago. It always helps to network!

It is the same chip used in the HD1 and 94HD. I believe Chris confirmed this about a week or so ago.

If it is the same chip they must be doing something different. I would have to say they had to modify it because the 95FD passes the HQV benchmark tests with flying colors while the 94HD does not. I thought Pioneer said at cedia that it will have an excellent chip for upscaling dvds not yet used in their previous Blu ray players.

Joe

If the 95 can match the XA2 on SD upscaling this is a tremendous plus. The XA2 makes new DVDs almost look like HD and the only players so far that can do the same job are the very Hi-end Denons or players costing 5 times more. The Samsung 1200 has the same Reon chip and should also be great but lacks the new audio features. Depending on your tests I will be a new 95 owner soon.

Sergio

I was so happy without HDR...

The same chip doesn't always mean "same" results. Software and implementation has a lot to do with it. These chips are capable of tremendous things if coded correctly.

With that said, as great as the Pioneer is, I would not be surprised at all if the HD-XA2 and BD-P1200 are still better SD-DVD players than the Pioneer.

After reading the start of this thread I was excited and headed over to my local Magnolia. They did not have a 95 on display, but the Magnolia guy said they did have them in stock. I did not press further as my pocketbook doesn't need it right now. But if this Magnolia (chicagoland) has them, then others do too.
