OK so I got a PS3 and am very interested in the Planet Earth series.

Now I see people talking about firmware this and that and I was just thinking that all I would have to do to enjoy the series is buy the Blu Ray discs and pop them into my PS3. Please tell me it's this simple.

If not any help would be appreciated.

Also, I'll be running on 1080p, with an HDMI cable and the PS3 has played regular DVDs just fine

Yep, it's all you should need to do. Maybe make sure the PS3 firmware is the most recent, that's about it.

I wouldn't sweat the 1080p so much. But you have to get the updates and keep up with them. This is not really optional if your not willing, Id stay away from Blu-ray and HD-DVD for quite some time.

Ha...

Back to the OP, you are fine right out of the box with the Planet Earth set. It worked on mine before I did the firmware updates...and don't let anyone around here scare you, the updates are painless and very user friendly. If you plan on buying any games, the new Ratchet and Clank has the newest firmware on the disc, just pop it in and it will update the PS3 for you...voila!!

Updates are easy enough, but as of now are crucial to new title releases.

Thank you for your honesty fellas. I've been browsing these forums for some time now and I notice that the boards are needlessly swarming with paranoid posters. If doing a quick and simple update is all that's needed to watch some Blu Ray movies than so be it. I won't mind at all
