The "format wars" are over for HD-DVD. I was in the wrong camp so need to get a Blu-Ray machine.

Decided to look at this forum and to Google to get an idea of what is currently available, as well as prices.

All of a sudden I see a whole bunch of Sony BDP-S300 on E-Bay sold as "broken". The symptoms varied from "Powers up but won't play" to "Powers up but tray won't open".

Is this a model to stay away from???

Just a guess, but the mods are going to lock this thread and tell you to check in the S300 thread

Sounds like these units may have not been upgraded following the instructions and may have been turned into a door stop by the owner and now they are trying to salvage something by dumping them on someone else.

So there's nothing inherently wrong with the S300's?

Nope. Definitely an underrated player IMO.

The reason threads like this are locked and redirected is simple....we encourage members to seek information and ask questions...and that can be accomplished in the existing thread.
