I recently did something similar to what you're describing. I used a product called AirStone from Lowes and it came out very well. Let me know if you want more details.

yea that's awesome! Very similar to what I plan on. Was your wall concrete that you put that on? Did you have to do any special prep work or just stick it up? That looks great!

That's the beauty of it -- I installed it right over the textured / painted sheetrock. You can adhere it to pretty much any surface. It uses a miracle adhesive that you butter onto the back and then simply stick to the wall. The only prep I had to do was cut ~ 1/2" out of the baseboard on each side.

Each box of AirStone is $50 and it covers around 8SF (depending on how many cuts you need to make). I was fortunate that my wall width was a perfect multiple of the stone widths so I hardly had to cut anything.

I'm using thin brick. Its actually real brick just sliced to about 1/2" thickness. I bought it from a guy off craigslist that had several boxes left over from a project, so I got it at about $0.20 a brick vs $1.25 normal cost.

I installed stacked stone on my upstairs fireplace (Eldorado Stone) a few years back so I wanted the basement to have that older sports themed brick vs. stone. I figured it would be easier since the Stone had so many unusual sizes. Unfortunately, its turned out to be a more involved project. I had to install dur-rock backed board in all the areas (which I used vs. drywall). Then the bricks are installed like ceramic tile backsplash. I had the 3/8" spacers that is typical of brick spacing. The hard part was all the cuts I had to make around the in-wall speakers, electrical, and TV cavity. Once its up, you go back with mortar and fill in the gaps, smooth them out, clean off the bricks (several times) and you're done.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Here's a pic of the ungrouted section w/ the Tigers logo and old stadium seats. You can see how thin the bricks are before grouting (tuck-pointing). After, they look like real full size bricks.

No not yet. I'm waiting till after xmas. Just in case the wife ended up getting me one. If not then I plan to order right away.

My sister is in town. Her and my nephew came by today and we watched Guardians of the galaxy and the hobbit. It was awesome! Also a few of my wife's cousins came over on Friday. I put on Metallica's through the never for them. They were blown away!

@HT5

That looks awesome!

Here's a couple pictures of some progress I've made. I have the tile in the bathroom but I still need to take a picture of that. I have the hard wood in as well but no trim done yet. I bought most of the doors I need but one was a special order so it will be a few weeks till it's in. The only door I have left to buy is the door for the deep freezer closet. I've painted the 3 and they are ready to install. Just looking for some time and will to work

All the doors and trim being painted.

Here's a shot of the doors.

Here's a shot looking down from freezer closet area. I plan to do another walk through vid here very soon! I'm trying to wait for a few more things to get done but maybe shortly after the holidays!

I thought I was great. Out of all the big budget summer flicks I would personally only put Winter Soldier and Edge of Tomorrow ahead of it.

Well I ordered my screen tonight! I went with a 135" elite sable frame cinewhite screen. Ordered on amazon for just over 400 bucks. Not bad I don't think. I went with the 135" . I've been watching everything at that size for a few weeks now and for my room that's what I was comfortable with. It's big but not to big for my room. I can't wait to get it and see the picture! My parents were over tonight for Christmas and I showed my mom some avatar 3d. I figured she would not like 3d but even she was blown away. Hahha I was surprised. She wants to come over and watch it since she's never seen it. I hope Santa brought me some more glasses . Merry chrismas everyone!

My Screen is suppose to be delivered today! I'll be out partying it up tonight though so won't be home to set it up

I should have it up tomorrow at some point though! I'll post pics soon! Also Trim and doors should be in next week. Then walk through video time Get ready for some more long winded rambling baby! hahahahahah...

EDIT: My screen was delivered! Now debating on taking off out of work early and seeing if I can get it put together and mounted before I take off for the night! I have to run by Menards to pick up a special order door that came in though so i may not have enough time. Uhhg it's hard to wait till tomorrow!

@weldon

Thanks Weldon. If I'm not mistaken there the same doors that you have in your basement. I think they are. Or similar at least?

Also its nice because now I was able to put it in eco and living room modes and it was still fine. May play around with thx mode and trying to do some calibrating. Also in the future I would like to maybe add some back lighting on the screen. All in good time.

Have fun putting the screen together bro. Looking forward to your updates and opinions on it. Grab yourself a few beers and take your time with it. Hanging it is the fun part (NOT).

On a serious note, be VERY careful when hanging it up on the wall. I know it is hard to believe but the black velvet on the back of the frame can actually mark up the wall a little bit...so be mindful of that when you go to slide it up and down the wall to hang it on the french cleat system...

Yea putting it together took a bit of time. I did it by myself and I had a little trouble getting the right corner connecting pieces to line up with the holes in the frame so I could screw them together. But after moving them around a bit I found a combination that worked. Then doing the tab's for the tension wasn't very hard. Getting the brackets mounted at the right height was a bit tricky and I initially miss calculated and put them to low. So I have a few holes behind the screen to repair at some point. But the screen covers them so really not a big deal. I have to say at 135 inches this thing is a beast! I love it though

Yea it's entry level for sure but for now it's doing the job and compared to it on the wall the picture is great! Some day down the road I may look into getting a more fancy screen but can't see doing that for some time. I have a couple neighbors coming by tonight for a guy's movie. Then tomorrow some other friends are coming by to watch GOTG. heheh I've seen it a few times now but they haven't and really want to so I'm happy to watch it again! I'm going to burn the bulb out quick on this thing I think at the rate I'm watching movies and sports on it! At least I have a free bulb on the way or soon to be on the way!

I was watching the last Transformers movie over the weekend and took a quick video with my phone. video quality isn't the greatest but I still thought it was pretty cool. I'm still blown away with this projector and I'm loving the screen!

I'm hoping to have some trim and doors installed this week but I have a buisness trip that I leave for on Thursday and will not be back until the following Wed.
