Thanks man. I'm getting ready to do a video on the different screen materials that Carl's Place offers. He "welded" together the flexi white, flexi gray, and ALR materials into one large 120 inch screen. Each 1/3 is a different material. Going to build a frame and do some comparisons and hopefully be able to capture the differences in different lighting. I'll most likely go with gray for my area, but I'll order which one I think looks best after I test things out and do a build video on making an LED backlit screen after that. July is a busy month with all the shifts I picked up, but trying to keep things moving...

Got a new addition for the theater (for the time being). Had an Emotiva LPA-1 that had a channel die on me a few months back. Loved the way it sounded. Been using my Yamaha RX-A3070 since to power everything. Emotiva just sent their Gen 3 XPA-7 for me to demo/review. Really excited to have an external amp again! Here's just an unboxing and overview of the specs/how it looks.

Got the screen built with Carl's Place Flexigray and back light LEDs installed. Man this looks so much better than my wall! Blacks are great, colors have a lot more pop... love it. The LEDs go great with the rest of the basement, but usually have them off during a serious movie. Fun to use them matching sports teams colors and stuff like that though!

Posted in the thread about the build as well, but here is the video of the last 2 boxes being built for the Stereo Integrity HS-24s. Demos towards the end are done with RTA in REW.

Hey @blister64 - Did you DIY your bar cabinets too or did you order them somewhere? Just watched the install video, and the look nice!

Edit: Also just finished watching your epoxy video. Amazing what can be done with that stuff - it looks very nice!

Thanks man, that epoxy was super easy to work with and the finish has really held up great. Looks like the day I did it still. We really like how it turned out.

The cabinets were ordered from a local custom cabinetry place. I had the thought of DIY'ing them, but I'm kinda glad I didn't. That would have been a huge undertaking and we just had our kiddo a few months before that video was made. They did a much better job that I would have been able to do. Cost 2-3x as much... but hey, I got to spend more time with my son lol. They are Knotty Beech wood. A little heavier/harder than Knotty Alder and has better grain lines in my opinion. Installation was pretty simple. You can see how I made the center piece in the LED cabinet install video as well if you were interested in that.

I like the look you created.

To take it one step further, have you considered using DreamScreen to mirror the colors on your projected image to LEDs?

Here's a 120" projector screen using Dream Screen for example:

I briefly looked into those. I couldn't find a US retailer and I'm sure it would be 3-4x the cost as the lights I put on. I kind of wanted to keep them all on the same system as the bar area so I could do everything with one remote. That is a cool setup though. I've read you can do something similar and cheaper with a raspberry pi. Maybe a project in the future for when I run out of things to do lol

That looks like more of a commercial product. I was thinking something like this, but I really haven't looked into it too much to be honest.

The author says it's pretty responsive, but I'd be worried about the lag of the external camera recording the feed, then the processing that is occurring on a low power Pi processor - if its a few frames behind it would not be as cool as real time — but maybe it wouldn't be noticeable - hard to know with these things. I know on my cheap streaming webcams - like a wyse there is a bit of a delay when feeding to my phone over wifi to my phone.

On the other hand - with that raspberrypi project version you'd never have to worry about HDMI standards evolving and bricking your $200 HDMI based device.

Ha, I didn't even know it was camera based and not HDMI based... Shows how little I've actually looked at it haha. But I agree, direct signal from HDMI would be the way to go. They are just so expensive for something that is more of a novelty imo

Mate, I've done something similar around my screen....but with a twist. Even though it's finished, I'll post pictures when the surrounding areas (like speaker covers etc) are completed.

Those Mi-Lights are very cost-effective & work brilliantly, as long as all joints & voltage power-packs are done right.

And your right about the sporting event bit regarding the lights. I made my room go totally GREEN 2 weeks ago when us Aussies had your equivalent to the SuperBowl. It added a great atmosphere from start to finish with those that were present on the day.....even though my team lost ;-(

Well haven't done a whole lot in regards to the home theater area the past few months. Been out of town and trying to get a few things wrapped up around the house when I've been home. Did get the review video done for the Emotiva XPA-7 I've been demoing with my system for the past 3-4 months. Couldn't really ask for more in this sucker. Reliable, sounded great, didn't get too warm, and looks really nice in my opinion. Here's the video...
