Raising my rack!

Hey all,

Looking at a 28U rack for my A/V closet! I want to get it up off the floor, but I don't want to permanently install it unless I have to. Do you guys have any ideas to get the rack up off the ground?

How far off the ground are you trying to raise it?

Looking to get 3-4 feet off the ground. The "easiest" solution would be to get a full 42U rack, but my closet is 30" wide by 24" deep. I only have about 80" in height to work with.

Not sure how elaborate this needs to be. I'd probably build a frame out of 2X4s, put plywood or MDF panels on the top and sides, paint it black and call it a day.

Thank you sir! I was honestly thinking about doing this, but I wondered if someone else had a different brilliant idea ;-)

I'll admit there's nothing "brilliant" about the idea, but sometimes "crude but effective" is the way to go. LOL.

Good luck with it.

Taking the 'crude but effective' approach (which is, admittedly, F'in brilliant) you could also just build a stand and then put something like this on top of it. Maybe they make a bigger one?

How about a 35U rack?

I built my rack into a hall closet using plywood and 42u rack rails.

You guys are great for inspiration!

I ended up finding a used 42U rack that tops out at 78", so I'm gonna JUST be able to squeeze it into my AV closet (don't worry, the back is open so I'll be rear venting)!
