I'm currently roughing in the electrical for my basement and I've hit a bit of a wall in regards to my LED accent lighting. I'd like to have 3 sections of RGB lighting: theater area, bar ceiling area and under the bar. I'm struggling to find a solid smart control method.
My original plan was to provide a transformer with high enough wattage to power all the sets and locate the transformer in the mechanical room for easy replacement. The challenge is how to control the RGB LEDs per area.
I don’t know but I recently subscribed to a electrical contractor magazine (for free) for ideas. All latest and greatest stuff. I believe it’s called electrical contractor.
I think i'm going with a zwave system such as the Fibro linked system. I'll use a transformer to supply 24V to the controllers for each LED zone. I also asked a buddy of mine that's a lighting engineer for an architecture firm. I'm scared of the costs for a commercial solution though.
The best intelligent lighting control system I've seen so far is Crestron's Color Kinetics system. It's expensive, about $12,000, but you can control more than just the lights. If you have a video, for example, you can control the lighting to match the video. Crestron has the lighting control market pretty well locked up. But there are some alternatives. The "old" led strip is also excellent to use. It uses keypads and wall switches to control the lights. The system has its own app, too. You should try it because it's also good.
I’ve already finished the basement for my future barbershop. I planned to have it lightened and clear. I want to give it a beautiful aspect that could be easily observed, especially at night, because I planned to introduce also the night program of working. So I put the LED RGB outside because it can control multiple areas. Home, yesterday this team that helped me with installation did a test, and I’m grateful to have made the right choice. Also, one of my friends agreed with my choice. He really likes how it looks.
