Ceiling painting question

I'm getting close to being done with the theater room. I just picked up an Epson 5050ub and had a quick question. The walls in my basement are a dark purple. The projector will be mounted on the lower part of a 2 level ceiling I have and projecting to a screen on a wall where the ceiling height is a foot higher (see pics), I'd like to not have to paint the entire ceiling so the basement isnt too dark when being used for other functions. I'm wondering if I can get away with just painting the lower part of the ceiling or if you guys would expect I'd still have alot of reflection issues with the higher part still?

If it were me I would try it you can always paint the remainder if you decide you need to.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'm really hoping it wont be needed.

I'd think it will come down to where you place your screen. If its close to the ceiling, you're likely to get reflections that are going to bother you. My screen is 6" from the ceiling and I ended up painting it to kill the reflections.

I have a 3' soffit that my projector (also a 5050) sits behind and shoots under. I left that white and painting the ceiling in front of it.

Paint the Lower Ceiling area in a very Dark Neutral "Flat" Grey tint (...matches up well with Purple...) mixed into a Interior water based Enamel (ie: Primer-Paint Combo)

DO NOT USE A "Dead Flat Latex" anything, be it ugly Black or gorgeous Grey. Flat Latex is dusty and dull looking.....it dpes not have the depth of color you want.

(...why in the 1st image does it look like your Ceiling is already painted? )
