I think the BD looks excellent, DNR or not.

I'll try to check tonight and give an initial opinion but IM is going to be played first. I didn't purchase it because of the price and I'm waiting for better on that. Netflix comes in handy!

this looked pretty darn good to me on Blu - I would say 4.25 out of 5... not quite 4.5 but better than 4...

and any DNR did not bother me at all...

I'm not one to over-analyze screenshots looking for flaws. But there was something noticeably off with this, observed while just doing a normal watch-through on my "meager" 40". I do not know enough about what this film SHOULD look like, nor do I remember when I saw it in theaters years ago, so I won't say anything definitively. But there were many scenes that looked overly devoid of detail, and many people who looked a little too smooth.

There is a bit of DNR but it is not awful. The picture is fairly sharp and detailed but there is a smoothness to the skin textures. Overall it is a good image, just not as good as it could be.

While I wish that The Sixth Sense would have been presented as film, it does not destroy the image, which still remains relatively sharp and reasonably detailed. The resultant image has not turned to plastic, however turning the deadly knob of grain reduction a bit further may have done just that.

Like Dark City? Oh wait, I forgot he said:

Quote:
What I am stating is that if there is, the film has not been plasticized, and nothing horrific has occurred.

I watched Sixth Sense last night. For most of the movie I had the seventh sense that some grain had been removed. There were maybe 4 or 5 brief scenes in the film that had much more grain apparent that the bulk of the film. It seemed to me that in those scenes they couldn't remove all the grain without really fatally damaging the detail. Those few scenes I think give a window into how the film would look without grain removal.

I saw Sixth Sense in the cinema twice because I liked it so much. As best I recall it was granier that this BD portrays it.

In real life I am Dot Mongur champion of the International Pacman Federation. I don't play the game, I operate it.....no dot is safe from me....

What I saw last night isn't going to stop me from buying this at a good price. Until then, it is on the back burner because of the upcoming Bond movies which I'll probably preorder. I pretty much want those ASAP!

Good news, the German release looks to be DNR free.
US|DE

Video is AVC, and audio is DTS-HD HR. Thanks to LordArgon for the screenshots.

I'm torn on this one. As with the HDTV shots, A-B'ing those German/US caps reveals less grain but not less detail.

I still don't reckon that anything other than imperceptible details have been lost (if at all), but in motion it does have an undeniably smooth look.

I might get the Deutsch edition for the hell of it.

I never bought the US version. The more I watched it, the more uncomfortable I was with the PQ. Not as bad as Patton and some of the others but I didn't pull the trigger.

Looks to me like some facial details are lost....Some of his stubble as just one example.

There's a loss of the palpable texture which is provided by the grain itself, but a loss of actual fine details? My eyes say no. I'll give the UK disc a full viewing and then decide whether or not to get the German edition.
