The HD airing of DIE ANOTHER DAY on Showtime was balls to the walls better than the DVD, so any idiot saying the BD is inferior is, well, just an idiot.

Watched Dr. No on Blu-Ray last night and was very impressed. It is clearly the best it has ever looked. You can see lint on Bond's tuxedo in the casino scene at the beginning of the movie. And it is not just the video. The sound is also better. Very pleased so far with both "Dr. No" and "For Your Eyes Only". Worth every penny played and cannot wait to watch the rest.

Just watched Die Another Day and it is superb. Anyone claiming that it looks no better than the DVD has got either display issues or is being deliberately obstinate. The BD annihilates the UE DVD.

Hi, sorry to a bit off topic, but I just got my 6 discs from Amazon, but I have a problem: I live in Canada so I can t redeem my Quantum of Solace movie cash. I have the codes for 4 tickets that i would be willing to trade for. I figure most of you will have discs with the cash but if you want to drag friends family or see it again, send me a PM. Thanks.

BTW Dr.No and FRWL look awesome on my 42"

100% agreed

DAD on Showtime was always one of the best looking HD showings I have ever seen bar none any format or HD channel, so the BD should be even better

I saw the lint as well. It's amazing how that small detail just jumps out at you! How about the women he was gambling with, wow both her and the red dress just stunning.

I would get Dr. No and From Russia With Love personally because they are my two favorite

I ordered all but one of the Bond movies from Amazon and they all came with the movicash stickers. Which are pissing me off as they are sticking to the slipcover... How are you guys removing the stickers?

The subtitles look like crap, they made my eyes hurt.

What exactly is up with the subtitles (locational captions) on Die Another Day?

I was delighted they (again) kept the theatrical burned-in subs rather than those rubbish player-generated things but... "they look like crap"? I've heard they are somewhat blurry.

Could it be the movie was mastered in HD but the subtitles were (accidently) upscaled from SD or something? Does anyone have any screen caps of a shot with one of these captions?

The disc partitions have no indent of any kind so over time when the rubber nub deteriorates the disc are certain to slide around unsecured. These cases just weren't designed for the long haul. Its the kind of impractical package that someone who is not an enthusiast would design...also, no interior artwork of any kind, just some graphics about the disc contents. This is clearly the worst packagng design of the three sets released so far.

I absolutely agree with the packaging. I bought the 2 volumes at Frys this morning. Opened the 1st set while on the way home. Found one of the nubs torn off holding the 2nd disc. Removed the third disc and it started to tear right away. Whoever signed off on this should be fired. Worst packaging ever. I managed to return both and get the discs separately which was more but come in standard casings.

I plan to send a email complaint to MGM. Lots of people are not going to like this.

Connery, yes, Moore, no. I think Clive Owen or even Gerald Butler could make good Bonds.

Game Over, case dismissed. Alpha and Omega. That pic entered as evidence has my vote for number one for DaF.

Mmmk so my official analysis is way better than a DVD, and it has been remastered. I also don't think it has EE or DNR save for either heavy makeup on Halle or some digital airbrushing. Check out the weird halo around Halle's face on this shot.

Also I took these shots of Jinx/Bond within seconds of eachother to show that Halle is much smoother in the same scenes.

So the movie starts off almost greyscale, but not quite black and white like Casino Royale. After Bond
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

gets released after his capture,
it becomes much more colorful. Sorry the shots are out of order in the movie.. That PDA pic is from the beginning/greyscale part.

IGN sucks this is 1080p detail.

Just finished watching DIE ANOTHER DAY.

After a very grainy and desaturated pre-title sequence the film morphs into a very nice and colorful transfer (outside the really bad CGI). I didn't think it was the worst looking DVD but this BD far exceeds the original. I really can't see how some can say it looks about the same as the DVD?

I rented this one for the audio. In truth DAD was always one of my favorite DD or more specifically 5.1 DTS-ES encodes, which is surpising that they didn't make this a 6.1 mix? Now i'm curious does DTS-MA have an ES extention cause I know that TRUEHD does. Anyways, I was anxious to listen to the audio track and though it's 5.1, it doesn't disappoint. I found the dynamics to be very impressive and also took note of sounds i'd never noticed before in the lossy encodes eg: the scene with his father on the plan, I never noticed there was singing in the background. There's such a significant increase in detail it's worth the upgrade for the audio alone.

Having said that, the film still sucks and though i've Netflixed it, i've no plans on purchasing. It did remind me and sadden me just how much potential this film had. It just seemed as soon as they hit Iceland that the film dissolved.

Just finished For Your Eyes Only. The PQ is good, but not fantastic and audio had some dialog that sounded garbled in places, almost as if the source was damaged or in poor shape. I think part of the reason Moore is looked down upon somewhat is the entire 80s. It seems so "disco" and out of fashion whereas the 60s seem almost back in nowadays.

Addicted to shiny round discs with HD content

Die Another Day has this dirty feel to it. Not talking heavy grain fields. It's like they left the movie in an alley and just didn't take care of it. There are plenty of older films that look better than it. Hell the upscaled DVD of SPR puts it to shame. The older bonds look better too.

And thanks for the caps of the subs. They do hurt my eyes, OW.

Ridiculous codec tier sig gone. Still AVC/24bit lossless fanboy.

FRWL won't play on my Panasonic BD10. It gets as far as the FBI warning screen then just sits there "Now Reading".

Same with Dr. No.

Any Recomendations?

I am watching Live and Let Die right now on my BD10.

It is the original BD10 and is at firmware 2.5.

If you are not at firmware 2.5, that is possibly the issue.

Yes, I think these are the two better of the three available also. They are also the only ones in which Connery sported his own hair.

I get the same feeling looking at some of these shots. It does not feel like a modern transfer at all, let alone a 4K one. Did Lowry really redo it? I don't care in the slightest about this particular film, but it makes me worry a bit for GoldenEye.

In fact it looks pretty damn good!

Perhaps it looks worse in the context of the moving image...?
