The Scandinavian release of the Blu-ray arrived in the mail today. I uploaded two pictures of the packaging here:
http://img593.imageshack.us/gal.php?...elligenceb.jpg

I will check on the transfer quality later today. Unfortunately, I don't have a Blu-ray drive so I can't take screenshots.

One of the most crushing, devastating scenes ever put on film.

Agreed. I thought it was very creepy and quite cruel. (That's why it's my favorite part of the film. ^_^)

I do think it was a little jarring at first to have picked such designs for the future robots though as it seems like most people I know assumed they were aliens, which would really confuse a person's opinion of the film

Oh no! Warner have started with the multi-language, nordic covers as well. Long a staple of cheap, budget releases. I guess that tells you how they regard AI.

I sampled quite a few scenes yesterday, and I must say it looks pretty darn great, at least to me. Plenty of film grain (A.I. has always been a very grainy film) with no obvious sign of overuse of DNR or EE. It isn't the sharpest picture, but my simple guess is that it's a good representation of the film.

Where did you purchase your Scandanavian copy of A.I.

It just dropped about 25% on Amazon.jp. I am thinking of buying two copies to make the shipping hurt less. However it is not released until 12/22. Thanks

Same here. I was going to add The Crow but it's too expensive.

A.I. group buy anyone?

I'll post up screencaps when it gets here unless someone beats me to it.

Yes, I was disappointed by this as I bumped into it on my visit to Oslo yesterday. Didn't know it had been released yet, flipped it over and... urggh

Just did the math and the shipping killed it for me too from Amazon.jp . A little over $40US total. I really would like to get it tho and I like that the Jp version is 6.1 audio.

If you can find a mate who wants a copy, HMV are doing 2 for 3000 Yen with 1200 Yen shipping.

Am I the only one annoyed that Teddy on the cover is hanging from Davids hand? In the movie he's walking on his own while holding his hand.

Yeah it doesn't fit. I guess they're trying to make him look more human?
Glad I'm not stuck with the dvd art. I like the original poster and use that instead.

Speaking of Teddy, if you had an extra $13,000 laying around he could have been yours.

Just posted screenshots and my findings of the European release.

Overall a solid release, but unfortunately hurt by the VC-1 codec.

Let's hope Paramount will use a high-bitrate AVC, eh?

Hrm, Spielberg quality transfer with Warner quality encoding. Comparisons to the Paramount release should yield lulz

(Looks like a recent transfer, definitely different from the HBO cap I have)

Yep German for folks not willing to wait and who dont want the cover...

Also just found this..

http://www.mixup.com.mx/mixup/produc...=7509036438007

My brother will be in Mexico during the release timeframe so I'm having him pick this up.

For 20 bucks I'll live with the crappy cover....

I've had a copy of A.I. from the Mexico release for several weeks. I'd been meaning to reply just hadn't had time. I'm watching it again as I type this reply. Its very likely the same transfer as the European release. Agree with it being a solid release but not perfect. However for this being a VC endcode it was hitting solid 20 to 30Mbps rates. Dipping into the teens at times but even saw the occaisonal 40. Is it highdef? Yes it is and its a much welcomed improvement over the DVD releases.

Will I pick up the US release maybe but only if there is an improvement on some of the banding and blocking(limited but yes some).

It looks very close to theater quality and if improvement for the US release is tweaking shaprness/DNR/etc... to appease people that hate grain and the softness that the movie was shot in then forget it I'll keep my Mexican release.

I'm becoming very wary of European special releases: "Name Of The Rose" turned out to have shocking PQ and no English soundtrack, by all reports; "Die Hard 4 Extended" turned out to be the Theatrical version on BD and the Extended version on a DVD; to name just a few.
