^^ It was in this scene that my wife and I noticed that the Avatar's have 5 fingers and the Na-vi have 4. Does this matter at all? No.

I could look at those screens all day, the difference is incredible. Probably one of the biggest night-day differences I've ever seen from DVD>BD.

Too bad I boycotted this release.. lol. Definitely pining for the next release that has the features.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mister Anderson.

I noticed that, too, which made me then wonder, shouldn't the Na-vi be able spot these "Avatar skin-jobs" pretty readily like that, as an insurrection to their group? Seems like if the mission profile is to blend in, a little gene therapy to correct 5-finger hands would have been part of the program.

Margot Robbie is THE most exquisite human creature on the face of the planet, in this moment in time.

Yeah... too bad. I'm lucky. I don't watch features. I'm only interested in the movie, so this release is perfect!

The Na-vi knew that the Avatars were humans. Dr. Grace even had a school where she taught them English.

Me lucky too! Cameron decrapified this BD and just put the feature on it giving it maximum quality! No trailers, previews or other s**t! Bravo, Cameron!

There's a lot of great things about this disc that other studios could learn from.

DITTO! I REALLY REALLY wish studios would stop throwing in previews and extra features into DVD/Blu-Ray. Just give me the highest quality audio/video for the MOVIE that is featured ON THE DISC!

I don't think I've bothered to watch any extras on any disc in the last five years.

I'd even love it if they'd just start playing with no menu. I mean, isn't calling up the menu when you actually want it the purpose of the "menu" button on the remote??

I've never watched any extras.

I think AVATAR should be awarded A+++ rating for Extras as well

might be interesting to see when its being released in 3D, if the left eye stream 2D of the 3D disc would also be superior compared to the 2D version of the movie.

Unlikely since it has a lower bit rate.

Warner does that with some of their releases. It's okay now that Warner uses DTS-HDMA but their earlier releases had a lossless and a lossy audio track so you ALWAYS had to open the menu yourself every time you started the movie to set the lossless track as it obviously defaulted to the lossy track. That was a huge pain in the ass.

Now i know that the blu-ray looks amazing, but when i popped the DVD in my computer and compared it to other DVDs on my computer i came to the conclusion that this is one of the best looking DVDs i've ever seen.

Or am I just crazy?

no you aren't crazy... the DVD is damn good for DVD... the only way it could look better is if you split the movie onto 2 discs to give it more bitrate

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Once more, with ... eight additional minutes.

Cameron said the eight minutes of new scenes will feature "new creatures and action scenes."

Isn't this "extended" cut the one we're getting on the 3-disc release later this year?

Welcome to Rivendell, Mister Anderson.

Wonder if the extended cut BD to be released will have just the movie on 1 disc for max PQ too??

I just got the UK blu ray and I feel like the pictures looks better. Is it me or do they have different encodes?

"How long were you in Mexico?"
" uh...a week, no, no, a day..."
"Well, which is it a week or a day?
"uh...a weekday?"

It's just you, I'm pretty sure it's the same encode worldwide (UK and US are identical at least).

Darn, I was actually rooting for more character motivation exposition. (Particularly with the more caricature type roles of Quaritch and Tsu'tey.)
