Specs here. This is the "uncut" version.

Some of the shots are matched to the DVD screenshots here.

Opened up to 1.78:1 from 2.35:1. No DNR. The transfer itself looks decent though it seems to have that weird noise present in some other releases. But god damn, the compression job is pathetically unstable. From second-to-second you can see it abruptly switch from relatively transparent to horribly smoothed and (de)blocked.

Features the Miramax logo at the start so a proper stateside release may be a while. Tons of different foreign distributors though so maybe another one will get it right first.

LG B7 (OLED65B7P, 2017)
UHD: Philips BDP7501 | HD: PS3, WD TV Live
Denon AVR-890 (2009)

Compression artifacts, ahoy! Seriously, what's with all of the macroblocking?

Bleah. Another poor cable master in the wrong aspect ratio from Alliance.

I hate Peter Jackson's work post The Frighteners, and hate that anything before those rings movies gets shafted

Forgot to mention, I think you do get a couple extra seconds of Winslet boobies underwater as a result. Worth it?

You know, I think you're right. Talk about a truly wretched presentation. The framing is abandoned, the detail is sucked out by DNR and what's left is obscured by a truly stupendous amount of video noise and macroblocking. The only thing this presentation seems to have escaped is edge enhancement.

Wrong aspect ratio, ancient transfer, bad compression... another hit from Alliance.

Deviation, check out the 2nd bottom right capture. EE galore.
