This was kind of an odd movie. The first half was completely different than the last half. Like it had two directors. An "artsy" director for the 1st half and a B-movie director for the 2nd.

RS600, 133" 2.8 HP Screen, Panasonic UB-900
Marantz, 7702MKII, Emotiva XPA-1, XPA-2, XPA-100's
7.2.4 with 4pi JBL LCR's, Athena 100 surrounds and 4x Volt 10lx ceiling speakers.
4x FI 18" IB subwoofage with Behringer EP400 amp
Fabric walls, fabric posters, fabric under soffets. No reflections!!

Just to confirm that this thread - and its assessment of the Warner release - aren't 'BS' - some comparisons to the German release:

Hope you guys don't mind me using some of the shots provided earlier in this thread.

Hahahaha geez, thanks for those! Wonder what's up with the different timing though.

Yeah, the US and UK versions have the matrix tint to it.... Not sure what's up with the bluish tint to the German...

As far as PQ goes though, the German version shows that Warner is doing exactly what people have been saying all along... whether it's a result of low bit rate or someone not putting in the proper settings, it's clear that they are giving us a sub-par picture on a good amount of their releases..

Do one get stuttering with a blu-ray like the german that has 24 fps instead of 23,976 fps or do the player/tv handle it?

Subpar encodes with poorly resolved grain from Warner is no surprise, but it's clear these are from different masters and in the case of the UK/US master half the damage seems to have been done already at that stage. Why they look so different is the real question, since it had a DI.

lol.

Looks like there's 2 transfers floating around out there. The smooth version used in the US/CA/UK releases, and a much more detailed and brighter version released in Spain, Germany and possibly other regions.

The German version is also a different cut: http://movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=354251
I guess that explains the presentation differences; the German version is probably an alternate cut made from raw unfiltered files.

My Norwegian disc corresponds to the German edit.(If I'm reading that site correctly). So it's not a specific German cut.
This puzzles me just as much as the UK version of Fantastic 4 being different from everywhere else.
IMDB makes no mention of any different cuts for Splice, anyone care to enlighten them?
Splice is a great movie, by the way.

Could you enlighten us with some technical information on Norwegian/Scandinavian disc? Is it BD50, AVC and how the bitrates compare to German edition.
Do you mean that the transfer is identical to German edition or that the cut is same?

Certainly, my good man.
The Norwegian disc is AVC with DTS-HD MA 5.1, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish subs. I couldn't tell you if it is Dual-layer or not, as my PC doesn't have a BD drive.
And yes, the Norwegian disc has the same cut as the German one, but I wouldn't presume to judge wether the transfers were identical by eye.
