Hello

The German BD of Judge Dredd is now available.
It is the first Blu Ray Disc of the Movie worldwide.

I know that some people (like me btw) like this movie.
So its an interesting info i think.

The Blu Ray is a new Master and has DTS HD Master Audio Sound in German and English.
Subtitle options are German or English. Both removable.

Here are some HD Screenshots in a comparison between the old German DVD and this new Blu Ray:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp...5497/picture:0

And here are the BD Info Scan:

unfortunately the Blu Ray is region locked B although the Cover and Disc label mentions A/B/C

But for US People who can play Region B Discs its a good option to add the movie in your collection.

Looks pretty good to me. Normally I'd pick this up, but I have a backlog of movies to catch up on due to the bounties of October. Hopefully this gets a NA release soon.

Anyone care to do some "cover-art" for the German "JUDGE DREDD" bluray?

Preferably with STALLONE (as Dredd with helmet ON) and DIANE LANE on the cover?

@dvdmike007

There is no steelbook of judge dredd. Just amaray.
But the cover is reversible so that you can make the german Rating Logo invisible

@raoul_duke

Yes opening text scroll and things like location information are in English.

Here especially for you:

I would think the audio would get a better bitrate option than 16-bit and only maxing out at 2296kbps. Most movies now that get released all have 24-bit and over 4000kbps for action movies. The Expendables for example coming out in NA this Tuesday is 24-bit and 5750kbps. Some of the scenes in JD deserve a better sounding audio option

It looks indeed like a steelbook but it isn't.
I would have loved a steelbook design like that too

That says more about you than the disc. To say one cannot enjoy disc simply because the audio, the lossless audio, is 16 bit instead of 24 bit stretches incredulity, even by AVS standards.

I, for one, look forward to seeing this guilty pleasure in full 1080p quality.

lulz, 24-bit audio. I've got some wrist magnets to sell you.

Audio soundtracks, codecs, lossless options, and bitrates sometimes vary between European releases and their US counterparts. Why not wait until this is released in the US before criticizing?

Tell me about it. I currently live here in Germany (my wife is active duty Air Force) and would be heading to my local Mueller ASAP to pick this up. It's always been a guilty pleasure of mine and the US DVD release was sub par at best.

It's very interesting that Tobis/Universum Film had the best overall version of JD on DVD (anamorphic with ok Extras) and now they are the first with a blu Ray Release of the movie and again its a good one with a HD Transfer especially made for this release.

But honestly i think there will be an US Version before the new Dredd Film comes out and eventually this will have much more and new Extras.
The new movie comes in 2012. So for maybe the next two years this German Blu Ray will be the version for lovers of the original dredd to watch it in HD.

I'm happy with the disc

*Sigh* My sarcasm is wasted around here, it really is.

As for a future US edition of Dredd, I wouldn't hold your breath for a better version. Dredd was apparently a fairly troubled production, and I doubt that many of the participants would be willing to revisit their time on this flick. So I'm getting the Deutsch disc, oh yes!

Not only that but it's a Buena Vista distributed title in the US, and they've shown very little interest in BD catalog titles overall. Given that the movie didn't do well here, and Disney doesn't care about this film (I don't think the DVD was even 16:9 enhanced was it?), I wouldn't hold out hopes of a US release.

Yep, that was in the back of my mind also. It's one of a stack of movies that Disney have never even bothered to release an anamorphic DVD of, so the notion of a US SE is pie-in-the-sky stuff.

Believe it or not, I took my girl friend (not girlfriend, at the time) to see this back in the day. She still married me!
It's OUR film (the first one we saw together). Though I wouldn't recommend it as a date movie

I remember using the laserdisc as demo material. No way I'll spend money to buy the BD, though. Maybe if it hit $3 or so.

Stephen.

Chances are very good that I was drinking when I posted the above.

Yep. The laserdisc was also one of the first wave of LDs to have AC-3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) sound.

The movie for me didn't have the best pacing, but I own a slew of the British comics, so the pre-conceived world of Judge Dredd was already entrenched in my mind. They could have done soooo many stories...

The Judges from an alternate universe, where "living" was ultimately considered illegal. This is the one that got me hooked on the comics.

Finding the last President of the United States in the cursed Earth

The Soviet Judges (OK ..that one is a bit dated now).

Umpty Candy .. and so much more...

Now they heard your wishes. While the first Release wasn't a Steelbook the movie is now out for a second time. This time with steelbook:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B004...pf_rd_i=301128

The Rating Logo is only a Sticker.

I saw you still haven't bought the Blu Ray.
So i thought the Steelbook release is interesting for you.

Greetings from Switzerland
