What are the recommended locations for getting a copy of the Sept 2016 Atmos disc? I've seen them on eBay but they have the look of bootleg copies that probably won't play on my system and might not actually be Atmos...or they're the $100/disc scalpers.
I had about 4 copies of it at one point. I sold 1 on eBay still sealed for $45. Sold in less than an hour at that price and I felt sort of guilty about that, but also was about 1/2 to 1/3 of the price for someone else's real one. Two of the others were given away. One to someone I knew, and one to someone from a Facebook group that I had never met.

Otherwise you would have to find some Torrent download, and those can be a bit of a legal issue (without going into how to do it or the details of it).

I'm in Italy, bought mine from an Ebay seller located in Southampton, but now he has only a used Dts demo to sell. Researching other sellers brought me to this that looks completely legit:

Without any responsibility on my part, as usual.

That site is for REVIEWS of demo discs.
That specific disc was available here
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/19-ded...ion-2-0-a.html
but is probably no longer being seeded since it is several years old.

As just said, that site describes and review demo discs but doesn’t distribute them.

It does have a pretty good collection of pre-roll stingers (THX, Atmos, etc. and also studio logos) for download.

Typically, you'll see something like this:

"The zipped torrent file is: Best of Disc.torrent.zip 22k .zip file
Download that file, unzip it, and open the resultant file with uTorrent or the downloader of your choice."

The unzipped file looks like this:
"Best of Disc.torrent"
Then you load that link to the torrent into a torrent program such as utorrent. Many prefer one of the older versions, since they're less bloated with ads and other junk:

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/utorrent-2-2-1-2

Depending on the file (described in the thread) and your capabilities, you 1) burn the file to a BD, 2) burn the file to a DVD, 3) load the file into the player of your choice, or 4) play the individual m2ts files with the player of your choice.

Start with a small disk such as mine () before you get involved with a 50GB download, though the process is the same.

Good luck.

Michael

It may take more than two minutes to connect to peers.
Also, it's over four year old (wow!), so there probably isn't much seeding activity.
Post in that thread and ask folks to seed for you.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/19-ded...d9-dvd-dl.html
Or try a newer one.

If you're not going to burn the download to a DVD, you should be looking at the m2ts files in the STREAM folder (within the BDMV folder). Unless you have software that can just read it as a disc (I use PowerDVD).
Some of those files still won't play, since they're "filler" for the BD disc structure.
The rest probably depends on your playback capabilities.
Please list the system and software you're using.
Hang in there.

Something must be getting lost in translation.

PowerDVD will be able to play the folder as is, with full menu support. That's what I use. Just make sure "More Audio Settings" is set to "non-decoded high definition audio...." There is no need to copy it anywhere else, unless you want to pass it along.
I'm uploading the file to my pCloud account. It looks like it will take forever, but I'll let you know when it's done. Hopefully, you'll be able to download it from there.
BTW, I'm 61. Though there are a few kids around here, most of us have been around the block a few times. This can be an expensive hobby.
I never used an inkwell, but I did use a slide rule.
In the meantime, you may want to try a more recent torrent:
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-su...demo-disc.html
or one of the others listed towards the end of the first post in this thread.

If I manage to get these demos would it be better to copy them to DVD as it seems to cause major problems going though USB. I presume I can not copy the demos to Blu ray as my player I think can only play BR not copy. God is it a expensive Hobby mate I hate to think how much I have spent so far from 8mm projectors to 16mm to CRT projectors to DLP. At the moment I have a Runco projector which I will upgrade next year. This projector cost me £5,000 when new I would be lucky if I would get £500 when I sell it next year. But we still carry on upgrading my new projector will be one off the JVC 4k projectors a other £5,000 plus a 4k player. Phew. Thank God my wife does not know how much I spend on this she is happy enough with her garden bits and I pay for the weeds she wants to plant when go to the garden centre and go to Malayasia once a year for holiday as long as I keep that up I am safe P.S When I look on e bay and see ow much these 16mm projectors go for is silly prices so sad. Anyway Thanks again Michael for all the help you are giving me.

You only need Virtual CloneDrive if you download an ISO file. If you have a "disc" with BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders, PowerDVD will read it as is.
V. 12 is kind of old. I'm using 15. You probably only need 16 for UHD et al, but check the features list.
My upload appears to be stuck with 8.5 hours remaining. I'll see where it is after work today.
It's not supposed to be this hard. But sometimes it is.

Better idea: go back to uTorrent. I'm seeding (probably where we should have started in the first place, but I wasn't sure I still had the whole file).
It's about 8GB.

No, I'm seeding the "Best of" disc, which is why you were able to get it (hallelujah!). Now YOU'RE seeding it.
You need to select it and stop seeding (stop sign). You can then locate the folder and move it wherever you want (you can't do what while you're connected to the torrent).
Drop the folder onto PowerDVD and enjoy!
Tally ho!

The two Demo discs that Michael is recommending were created to fit into a DVD double layer disc, but would ONLY play from a blu-ray player, not a DVD player. However, there are some blu-ray players that have a hard time playing these type of discs from DVD media, but with DVD prices so cheep it is worth a try. What I like, even with the small size, is to burn these to BD 25 disc, you'll need a BD burner, but then you can be assured that the disc will play in any Blu-ray player.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi, Leo!
He has a PC with PowerDVD (therefore, an HTPC); the files don't need to be moved or burned to anything.

Of course, once he has the BDMV folder he's downloading, he's going to need to know that he needs to put that folder into another folder and add an empty CERTIFICATES folder, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Go for it, Eric!
