Anyone Using BluRay.com App to Organize/List BD's?

After looking for a long time to find an app that would:

1) Allow me to scan the barcodes of the discs I have, and

2) Carry the list of the discs I own with me when shopping,

3) Prevent me from buying duplicates of discs I already own.

I came across 'just the thing' on BluRay.com. You'll have to go to the Play Store to download it, but it's free. Includes a scanner app that will let you scan your collection. It also is accessible on the web at Bluray.com, so you can search for deals, etc.

While it took a while to scan my 400+ discs, they all are now in my collection, and the app works great.

I can go to a BD store and scan the barcode of a disc I'm considering for purchase. I can tell in just a minute if I have it, and also can get pricing from other places, including Amazon.

Really cool, and works great!

Who knows, this whole internet thing may just catch on someday....

Sounds neat, without going to bluray.com I guess it's done using ones cell phone?, I could use this as I can never remember what I own, or don't have.

Thanks

Yep. You load the app onto your phone (android in my case) and it synchs with the BR.com site.

I'm going to give this a shot. It's not clear what membership does/doesn't do for the app/tracking, but I registered and will download the app for my iPhone.

I am doubtful of the ability of cell phones to scan barcodes with any ease.

I've been using it too for about a month and like it for categorizational purposes. I did have to download a barcode scanner app too to get the full functionality.

I have it and am using it. With as many BDs as I have, it helps to keep me from going overboard and buying copies of what I already have when buying the bargain bin offerings.

Does the app allow for private/public sharing your collection's titles via the internet? Folks trying to buy me presents are always annoyed because they never know what I already have.

I think so. There's a capability to set up a 'for trade' list, and some other stuff I didn't dig too deeply into on the site. Don't know if the app supports it, but probably does.

I've used it for about a year on ios. You can also access your collection info from their website without the app just by signing in.

As for sharing your collection list with others, I can't see that functionality anywhere.

Has prevented me from repurchasing inadvertently several times.

Once you've scanned things in, you can also enter purchases from their page on bluray.com. And track watched, etc. I find it all pretty handy.

I use both MyMovies Pro and the blu-ray.com app; both work fine for the basic function of keeping track of the titles you own. Both allow barcode scanning. MyMovies is a dedicated collection management app with more customizable options, and its library isn't limited to blu-ray/DVD. Of course, it isn't free, but it has a slick-looking, web-based presentation of your collection that anyone can browse, which I quite like. Blu-ray.com has something similar, but it's obviously tied to the blu-ray.com website.

For most people, the free blu-ray.com app should be perfectly fine

But if you're looking for additional features like generating HTML/PDF reports of your collection, adding custom fields, media manager integration with your movie library/HTPC, etc... then MyMovies is worth a look.

I use a similar program called DVD Register. It has two versions, a desktop version that uses Microsoft Access (either your copy or via an included Access runtime) and a web only version. It covers everything from LaserDiscs to Blu-Rays. Not free (annual subscription) but very flexible and includes lots of things like cover art, cast info, etc. The web version also handles non-U.S. titles via access to title information from Amazon sites in Europe and Japan. I've been using it for at least a dozen years to track my video collections.

But no mobile app...unless I'm missing something.
I like the fact that it supports DVDs; I guess it's too much to ask for "BluRay.com" to include DVDs in their database?

So I started using the My Movies app and it when smoothly, scanning the weekend away!

I counted 285 movies ( thought I had more than 285 in my long gone Sony BD690 400 Changer I guess I had all the extra #2 discs), also I scanned a few bluray-A as well that I plugged in My collection, which is going to be very helpful.

I must have two or maybe 3 blu rays that didn't register correctly thou, sure I can find it online using the app which is cool, it was weird because the movies getting the errors were pretty popular disc. I have one of those The Wizard of Oz 70 year Anniversary box set, and I don't know when or why I tossed out the outer back cover art with the bar code which I never ever do. Steel cases I think don't come with bar code, not sure if that's correct. I have Dark Knight Rises in a Steel case, which I encounter this issue, Band of Brother, as well, but no biggie it can be found online.

I have my empty cases in my bedroom and I was using minimal lighting which definitely slow things down.
Other than a few hiccups which was no real problem, I think it's an excellent App that's easy to use, you need lots of light which makes the scanning easy.

So thanks to the OP for bring to light this great and helpful App

I have run into the occasional scan problem, but most times it because BB has put a different bar code sticker on, or because its primarilly a US site, the canadian version of a movie doesn't show up.
You can also just type in the movie name, and do a seach of "any" country.

I don't use their App, but I use their software for cataloging my Blu rays. You can pull up a Blu ray you want to add via search and click on the "add to collection" icon under the disc picture and a pop up box allows you to add the disc to your collection. The software is pretty robust. You can sort your discs a variety of ways. You can also click on "statistics" and a breakdown of your collection shows up. Under "search collection", click on a genre, and all discs that fit "Heist", for example, show up. This is a great feature when I want to watch something and I'm not sure what I want, but I know the type of movie I want to see. You can fine tune that search a variety of ways, by studio or production years, for example. It's a very nice free feature of the website, IMO.
