Yes, you can rent single titles without a subscription. The price varies.

I'm on the 5 per month at $17.99 plan: $3.60 per disc is a good value for what I'm getting, which is access to special labels like Twilight Time, Kino, Shout, etc.

To my understanding, you can do the subscription plans which let you rent any movies, but there is a monthly limit. Or you can do it a la carte. Financially, I think the subscription plans are better. Here is a thread about them:

I couldn't find this.

I am seeing multiple posts on the "community" tab in march and april where the social media person is telling people that the test will start in April or May. Being that it's mid-May, I think we ought to see it soon.

you have to look through a mountain of visitor posts to their facebook page to find their responses. it's not easy. you can search their twitter for redbox 4k and find occasional mentions as well.

Further update on 4kave.com: Had "Three Billboards" in queue. It took about 8 days to receive the disc after I returned "Shape of Water". This time, it came in a "Netflix" type return envelope, everything except the disc sleeve and prepaid postage (it had a first class stamp).

However, I have recently received an email from them. Apparently USPS has been difficult, breaking/losing discs and raising prices. So 4kave eliminated the lowest price tier, and the cheapest plan now is $15.99/month. This includes unlimited rentals, but one at a time.

I have cancelled my subscription plan as there are better options. So I am trying 3d bluerayrental for 4k discs. I'll start with a la carte rentals and then maybe move up to a monthly subscription.

And of course, still waiting for Redbox.

There! I've run circles of logic around you!

Redbox Launches 4K Ultra HD Rentals In Six Markets

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300652310.html

Quote:
Redbox, America's destination for new-release movies and games, today announced the launch of 4K Ultra HD rentals in six test markets. Rental pricing is just $2.50 per night.

The test is rolling out across more than 2,500 kiosks in Los Angeles, Seattle, Austin, Detroit, Miami, and New York City.

"Black Panther," "The Commuter," "The Matrix" and "The Martian" are among the first action-packed 4K Blu-ray titles available to rent in test markets. New releases and popular catalog titles will be added weekly, and the number of titles and copies will vary by kiosk and location.

Crap!!! i was hoping the DC area would be one of them.

EDIT: I guess it's probably for the best after reading "..At this time, online reservations are not available..." Since if they can't guarantee the title I want is at the Kiosk, I have no desire to mess with it. I only want to visit a kiosk after a title has been reserved.

I see the one out plan is less expensive than 3d-blurayrental. But the two and there out plans are more expensive.

To add to 4kave.com, included with the increase in price, you also get tracking, which is a big plus to me. Also, they are not guaranteeing that if something is out of stock for 7 days, they will add stock.

I am keeping them for 1 disc since I live in the same state they are in. But I have also started 1 disc (5 max) plan with 3d blu ray. IMO, they are the better player since their selection and stock is much better. Plus, if it is on "Short Wait" when you request for it, they will send it once they have it in stock, regardless if you have your 1 disc max out. You just have to send back all discs before you rent out another. They told me that you didn't have to wait for the disc to be returned to them. They said as long as you put it in the mail, you can request another.

Because we're Da D, homie!

But seriously, "Detroit" is often used to refer to SE MI, which most area lifers would include out to at least Ann Arbor west and all of Oakland county (I.e. a little more than the Tri-County area)

Cities/townships in this area have routinely appeared on "Top 10 Places to Live" in the USA, in the past 10 years.

The 80's called and wants their Detroit bashing back

I would be surprised if ANY Redboxes will have 4K discs in the city-of-Detroit (within its political boundaries).
I suspect most/all will be in surrounding suburbs.

I was only able to find ONE Redbox in all of the-city-of-Detroit!

forgot to post this when it broke...

Those 4 titles are:

Black Panther, a little Marvel movie you may have heard of from director Ryan Coogler.
The Commuter, Jaume Collet-Serra‘s latest “Liam Neeson kicks some ass” film.
The Martian, a Ridley Scott movie about Matt Damon growing potatoes in space.
The Matrix, the game-changing sci-fi flick from the Wachowskis.
These 4K titles will be available at 2,500 Redbox kiosks in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Austin, Detroit, and Miami, and renting them will cost you $2.50 a pop, which is a bit more than the $1.75 charge for DVDs and the $2 rental fee for regular Blu-rays.

This is essentially a test-run for Redbox, as they plan to offer more 4K titles in the future, including Red Sparrow, Pacific Rim Uprising, and the new Tomb Raider movie

If you are in Dallas/Fort Worth area, the Movie Trading Co. has 4k Blu-Ray rentals. They have locations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri. They are called Vintage Stock or EntertainMART in the other cities.

I assumed they had only DVD and standard Blu-Ray discs for rent, so I walked in to pick up an old blu-ray. I walked out with Pacific Rim 4k Blu-Ray rental. I'll keep coming back. It's only a small section of the store, but they always have the latest releases. You can buy the used discs for cheap.

The Family Video chain of video stores has 4K UHD titles. With 5 day rentals, they blow away Redbox.

New releases are not 5 day rentals. It’s $3.50 for one night at my store.

At the location near me, some new releases are 1-day rentals, while others are 5-day. Either way, $3.50 is a great deal for UHD.

Redbox 4K is great if you dont mind not driving around box to box to see what is there. No online search function for 4K UHD blu ray. So you just have to hope your local box has what you want and thats only if you are in the few test markets.

I am beyond disappointed in how slowly they are rolling out 4k rentals. I really hope this doesn’t mean they are considering not going forward with it.

The only logical explanation to me is that it isnt profitable.

I would argue that forcing people to go to the box to reserve it is handicapping the test such that it is set up to fail.

Really curious.

This interview with the Redbox CEO doesn't look promising for fast UHD rollout. He doesn't even know that 4K is being streamed! Which is why they don't stream titles in 4K. What bridge did they find this guy under?

He wasn’t under a bridge but in a cave watching dvds on his budget lcd. This is what happens when you hire bean counters instead of AV enthusiast.
