1080p is so last decade

We want the complete 4K UHD treatment- scanned from original negatives at 4K (preferably 8K or higher), 10 or 12 bit WGC bt2020 color, HDR10 and dynamic DV or HDR10+, and newly authored lossless Atmos/DTSX immersive audio.

TO clarify, any 1080p version floating around has unknown bitrate and codec(s) (probably changes everytime you stream it), probably reencoded acouple times, only 8 bit bt709 color, no HDR and lossy DD/DTS probably remuxed from a DVD/BD.

that said, still MUCH BETTER than the DVD release

The Digital Bits has been proclaiming that Blu-ray editions of True Lies and The Abyss are due "any day now" for almost 12 years running.

In an interview Nov 2018 James Cameron himself said the Abyss and True Lies masters are done and awaiting his review. Furthermore he said he'd review them by the end of the year, which was imminent.

So even if he's late by a few months, 2019 seems very possible.

Yeah, those masters were prepared about six years ago. He still hasn't looked at them.

“Man, it’s on my to-do list. It’s a question of time-management. True Lies and The Abyss both have Blu-ray transfers that are complete for my review. The problem is the next 14 hours when I have to go back and trim the color and get each one perfect. That’s 28 hours. I don’t have 28 hours. I’ve put it on my list to try to get it done before the end of the year [2018].”

I'd take a good Blu-ray of The Abyss, I don't need the extras, I still have the $100 laserdisc director's cut box set.

Going off topic has anyone bought the HD version of Mountains Of The Moon at Google Play and can comment on picture quality? I have the laserdisc, the DVD uses the laserdisc transfer, no anamorphic DVD or Blu-ray in sight.

Another favourite, Narrow Margin, Archer/Hackman, is in a similar situation.

That's great news. So it should only be, what, another seven years before Cameron reviews his work and signs off on it?

Maybe Fox's new owners (so to speak), will put a little friendly pressure on. Disney would probably like to see a 4k release monetized sooner than later.

You think Disney give a flying fig about a reissue of a 30-year-old box office flop? I think you overestimate the potential for monetization.

I’m cautious about this; between the teal washing and DNR fests that have been the last Cameron releases, not to mention the omission of the mono on the T1 disc, and the lack of True Lies to go with it. I’ll believe it when I see it.
